A bill tracker app lists each recurring bill, its due date, and the amount, then alerts you before it's due. According to Experian, late payments get reported to credit bureaus once they're at least 30 days past due. They then stay on your credit report for seven years.

If bills slip, you're not alone. The Federal Reserve's 2025 SHED report found 16% of U.S. adults, about 1 in 6, didn't pay all their bills in full in the month before the survey.

Many older app lists are outdated. Prism was discontinued Feb. 20, 2024, according to Prism's support site, and Intuit shut down Mint on March 23, 2024. Below, compare free tiers, pricing, bank linking vs. manual entry, reminder style, and forecasting. If forgotten subscriptions are your bigger leak, see our subscription manager apps guide.

Our Top Bill Tracker App Picks, Reviewed

Rocket Money — Best Free Bill Reminders

Rocket Money started as Truebill in 2015. Rocket Companies, the parent of Rocket Mortgage, bought it in 2021 and renamed it the next year. It links to your bank and card accounts, finds recurring charges, and alerts you before bills are due, all on its free plan. That makes it the strongest no-cost pick here if reminders are what you need most.

Premium uses a choose-your-price model, typically $7 to $14 a month, and adds tools such as help canceling subscriptions. Bill negotiation is open on every tier. On Free and Premium, a successful negotiation costs 35% to 60% of the first year's savings, charged up front. Premium+, at $15 a month, drops that fee.

The tradeoff is the fee math. If Rocket Money cuts your internet bill by $300 a year, you could owe $105 to $180 right away, so check the fee screen before you submit a bill. The app also needs access to your accounts to work. If you'd rather not link a bank, Goodbudget's free plan is the manual alternative.

Pros

Cons

Free plan includes bill reminders

35%–60% negotiation fee on Free and Premium

You choose your Premium price

Requires linking accounts

Bill negotiation on every tier

Best cancellation tools need Premium

Key Features:

  • Free plan with bill and subscription tracking

  • Premium $7–$14/mo; Premium+ $15/mo

  • No negotiation success fee on Premium+

  • 7-day Premium trial

Quicken Simplifi — Best for Seeing Bills Before Payday

Simplifi is Quicken's web and mobile app for people who want to see the next few weeks of money, not just last month's spending. Quicken's plan comparison lists bill due-date and payment alerts, automatic detection of bills and subscriptions, and projected cash flow that shows how upcoming bills will hit your balances.

That forecast is the main reason to pick it over Rocket Money. If rent leaves your account two days before payday, Simplifi shows the dip before it happens. It's also the cheapest paid app here at $3.99 a month, billed annually. But that's a first-year promotion for new members who order directly from Quicken by Nov. 6, 2026. After the first year it renews at the then-current rate, and the standard price is $6.99 a month, billed annually.

Simplifi tracks bills but doesn't pay them. Bill pay is a Quicken Classic desktop feature. There's no free tier, and Quicken says its products support banks only in the U.S. and Canada.

Pros

Cons

Projected cash flow shows each bill's impact

Promo price is first-year only

Can't pay bills in the app

Auto-detects bills and subscriptions

U.S. and Canada only

Key Features:

  • Bill due-date and payment alerts

  • Projected cash flow

  • $3.99/mo first-year promo; $6.99/mo standard, billed annually

  • Web and mobile apps

Monarch Money — Best for Households

Monarch is a paid-only budgeting app. It says it doesn't run ads or sell financial data, and its revenue comes entirely from subscriptions. It works on the web, iPhone, and Android, and you can add a partner to the same subscription at no extra cost.

Core costs $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year, per Monarch's pricing page. In 2026, Monarch added a Plus tier that independent reviews put at about $199 a year, billed annually only. Plus adds forecasting, business-income tracking, and deeper investment tools. If the forward-looking bill view is what you want, Simplifi includes projected cash flow for much less.

There's no free tier, only a 7-day trial. Paying monthly for Core adds up to $179.88 a year, nearly the price of Plus. On the plus side, Monarch says it gives at least 30 days' notice before any price change and offers a money-back guarantee.

Pros

Cons

Partner included at no extra cost

No free tier

No ads; doesn't sell data

Forecasting requires Plus

Web, iPhone, and Android

Monthly billing is costly

Key Features:

  • Core $14.99/mo or $99.99/yr

  • Plus about $199/yr, annual only

  • 7-day trial and money-back guarantee

  • 30 days' notice before price changes

PocketGuard — Best for Knowing What's Safe to Spend

PocketGuard, around since 2015, is built around one question: how much can you spend after bills? Per its pricing page, it links to U.S. and Canadian accounts, lists recurring and upcoming bills, and includes help lowering bills and canceling unwanted subscriptions.

PocketGuard Premium costs $12.99 a month, $74.99 a year, or $149.99 once for lifetime access. It's the only lifetime option in this list, which helps if you're tired of renewals. The 7-day trial is short next to YNAB's 34 days.

Don't count on a free plan. PocketGuard's pricing page shows only the paid plan and a trial, though some reviews still describe a limited free version. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.

Pros

Cons

Only lifetime option in this list

Short 7-day trial

Bills built into safe-to-spend view

No free tier listed

U.S. and Canada bank connections

Works best with linked accounts

Key Features:

  • Recurring and upcoming bills

  • Bill-lowering and cancellation help

  • Premium $12.99/mo, $74.99/yr, or $149.99 lifetime

  • Web, iPhone, and Android

YNAB — Best for Planning Ahead for Every Bill

YNAB (You Need A Budget) has been around since 2004 and uses zero-based budgeting: you give every dollar a job before you spend it. That makes it less of a reminder app and more of a system for setting aside money for each bill before it's due.

It costs $14.99 a month or $109 a year, with a 34-day free trial that doesn't require a card when you sign up directly. One subscription covers up to six people, and college students can get a free year with proof of enrollment. Direct bank import supports select U.S., Canadian, U.K., and EU banks.

The tradeoff is effort. YNAB's method takes time to learn, and at $14.99 a month it's among the priciest apps here. If you only want a nudge before due dates, Rocket Money's free plan is a simpler fit.

Pros

Cons

Longest free trial (34 days)

Learning curve

Share with up to 6 people

Pricey on monthly billing

Free year for college students

No free tier

Key Features:

  • $14.99/mo or $109/yr

  • 34-day trial, no card required

  • Subscription sharing for up to 6 people

  • Bank import for select U.S., Canada, U.K., and EU banks

Goodbudget — Best for Manual Tracking

Goodbudget, from San Francisco's Dayspring Technologies, has offered envelope budgeting since 2009. You split income into virtual envelopes, so a bill envelope fills up before the due date. The free plan doesn't link to a bank at all, which makes it the privacy pick in this list.

Per Goodbudget's help center, the free plan includes 10 regular and 10 annual or goal envelopes, one account, two devices, and one year of history. Premium, at $10 a month or $80 a year, adds unlimited envelopes and accounts, five devices, seven years of history, and automatic sync for U.S. banks. Refunds are available if you ask within the first 30 days.

Manual entry is both the point and the cost. On the free plan, you log every payment by hand, so the app only works if you keep up with it.

Pros

Cons

Real free plan

Manual entry on the free plan

No bank link needed

Bank sync is U.S.-only and Premium-only

Share a budget across devices

Free plan limited to one account

Key Features:

  • Free plan with 20 envelopes

  • Premium $10/mo or $80/yr

  • U.S. bank sync on Premium

  • Web, iPhone, and Android

Copilot Money — Best for Apple Users

Copilot Money is built for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and it also runs in a web browser. It sorts your transactions automatically and keeps track of recurring charges, so upcoming bills show up without manual setup.

It costs $13 a month or $95 a year after a one-month free trial, and there's no free tier. At $95 a year, it's slightly cheaper than Monarch Core's annual price.

There's no native Android app. Android users can use the web version, but if your household mixes iPhone and Android, Monarch or YNAB covers both with real apps.

Pros

Cons

Polished Apple apps

No native Android app

Automatic categorization

No free tier

Slightly cheaper than Monarch Core yearly

Monthly plan costs $156 a year

Key Features:

  • $13/mo or $95/yr

  • 1-month free trial

  • iPhone, iPad, Mac, and web

  • Recurring charge tracking

How Do You Choose the Right Bill Tracker App?

Choose a bill tracker app by matching it to how you actually pay bills. Four factors help you pick a bill organizer app that fits.

Do You Want Automatic Bill Detection or Manual Control?

Pick automatic detection if you don't want to type in bills, and manual control if you'd rather not link a bank. Per PocketGuard's pricing page, the app shows recurring and upcoming bills from linked accounts, and it also supports cash accounts and transactions. Goodbudget's free plan is manual, while its Premium plan adds U.S. bank sync, per Goodbudget's help center.

Before linking any account, review the app's own data practices, because federal open-banking rules aren't in force yet. The CFPB finalized its Section 1033 open-banking rule in October 2024, but a federal court has blocked it and the agency is reconsidering it, according to an April 2026 Cozen O'Connor legal alert.

Will the App Show If You Can Cover Bills Before Payday?

Some apps will, and that view matters most if your paychecks and due dates don't line up. Think of it as a weather forecast for your checking account. Per Quicken's pricing page, Simplifi lets you see how bills will impact your balances. Monarch offers forecasting on its Plus plan.

A monthly bill tracker view like this may help when cash is tight. The Federal Reserve's May 2026 release found 63% of adults would cover a $400 emergency with cash or its equivalent. That leaves roughly 37% who would need another way to pay.

How Should Reminders and Autopay Work Together?

Use reminders as a balance check before autopay pulls money. According to the CFPB, autopay can help you avoid late fees, but a low balance can trigger overdraft or NSF fees.

The CFPB's bill calendar guide suggests listing each bill, its due date, and the amount. It also suggests reminder apps or services that alert you when it's time to pay. A bill calendar app or bill reminder app covers both steps in one place.

What Will You Pay After the Free Trial Ends?

Your cost after the trial depends on whether the app has a true free tier or only a trial. Rocket Money and Goodbudget offer free plans, while Monarch, YNAB, and Copilot offer trials of seven days, 34 days, and one month.

Watch promo pricing too. Per Quicken's pricing page, Simplifi is $3.99 a month for the first year on promotion vs. $6.99 standard, billed annually, and it renews at the then-current rate.

Say you're weighing Goodbudget Premium at $80 a year. Without reminders, one forgotten payment can bring a late fee and, once 30 days past due, a seven-year credit mark. With reminders, you get a nudge before the due date arrives.

Why Trust BestMoney?

You can trust this comparison because it's built on current pricing and primary sources. BestMoney brings 50+ financial experts, 3000+ hours researched, and 100+ comparison tools, calculators & more to its guides.

For this page, BestMoney compared seven bill tracker apps on price, free tier, bank linking, and bill-specific features. Pricing was checked on each app's official pages in September 2026.

Credit and household data come from Experian, FICO, the CFPB, and the Federal Reserve. We also left out apps that have shut down, including Prism and Mint.

Your Questions, Answered (FAQs)

What is the best app to manage my bills?

The right bill management app depends on whether you want automatic detection, manual entry, or balance forecasting. Compare price, free option, and bill features in the recommendations table above.

Is there a free bill tracker app?

Yes. Rocket Money's free plan includes bill reminders, and Goodbudget's free plan supports manual tracking, while Monarch, YNAB, and Copilot offer trials only.

What replaced the Prism bill pay app?

Apps such as Quicken Simplifi and Rocket Money now cover the bill tracking and alerts Prism users relied on before it closed Feb. 20, 2024. Note that Simplifi tracks bills but doesn't pay them, per Quicken's pricing page.

Does paying a bill late hurt my credit?

It can once a payment is at least 30 days past due, and the mark can stay on your report for seven years, per Experian. Payment history makes up 35% of a FICO Score, per FICO.

The Bottom Line on Bill Tracker Apps

The right app to track bills comes down to three choices: automation vs. privacy, whether you need balance forecasting, and what you'll pay after the trial. Rocket Money and Goodbudget offer free plans, while Simplifi focuses on bill alerts and balance impact. For next steps, see our guides to budget apps and subscription manager apps.
