What's Covered?

Spot Pet Insurance covers any injuries, accidents, and illnesses, including emergency treatments and diagnostics like X-rays and MRIs. Your Spot insurance policy also pays for medications, prescription foods, and behavioral treatments conducted by a vet. Spot’s coverage also includes hereditary and chronic conditions, and will pay for alternative therapies like acupuncture if they are used to treat a covered condition.

If you have multiple pets, Spot Pet Insurance offers a 10% discount for every additional pet for which you buy coverage.

What's Not Covered

Spot Pet Insurance does not cover any pre-existing conditions, even if they are curable. In addition, the company doesn’t cover any routine care, such as teeth cleaning or annual physicals, unless you purchase a preventative care plan as an add-on. If you choose an accident-only plan, only medical expenses directly resulting from an accident (not an illness) are covered.

Waiting Periods

Any insurance policy from Spot Pet Insurance does not take effect until 14 days after you purchase. Spot’s 30-day guarantee means that you will receive reimbursements within a month of filing your claim.

Coverage Limits

Spot Pet Insurance offers annual payout limits from $2,500 per year all the way up to unlimited coverage.

Reimbursement and Deductibles

Spot Pet Insurance offers three reimbursement models: 70%, 80%, and 90%. You can also choose a deductible of $100, $250, $500, $750, or $1,000 per year for your insurance plan.

Claims and Service

Spot Pet Insurance doesn’t require approval before you visit a vet or emergency clinic. Instead, you can simply submit your claim for reimbursement afterwards by using the Spot mobile app or Spot’s online portal. Claims can be submitted up to 270 days after treatment.

To file a claim, all you need to submit is an image of your invoice. In some cases, Spot may follow up with you or the vet to obtain your pet’s full medical records or additional details on the treatment. Spot doesn’t provide an estimate for how long claims take to pay out, but you can check the status of your claim at any time through your online account.

If you need help filing a claim, you can get in touch with Spot’s customer support team by phone or email. Support is available from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM ET, Monday to Friday.

Communication from Spot is good and the customer service representative (Rachel) was great! However the sign-up process was difficult since I had to juggle back and forth to find out prices for one or two cats and still didn't understand until checkout. I didn't realize I had to register until I got an email. And when I went to register, I had no idea of my number and the website told me that wasn't my zip code, which of course it was.

Gladly pocket premiums, but don't pay claims
Paid premiums on auto draft. 1st claim submitted for kennel cough on both dogs. Claims turned down. Called for reason told couldn't get histories from the vet previously taken ( even though they had history on one since he was only 16 weeks old and history was vaccinations only). The sad part was that the claims would have only applied to deductible. No $ at stake. Both claim on both dogs rejected. Cancelled these crappy policies and evidently wasted the premiums paid. Do not risk your pets' health's with this so-called insurance.

They are sleazy. Good luck if you live in an expensive area as they will find any reason to not cover your needs. Everything becomes a pre-existing condition and the 2 week start window is really your dog's whole life + 2 weeks as everything will be a preexisting condition, including hunger apparently. I am filing with the insurance fraud commission it is so notable.

I just started the policy for a puppy that was obtained from a breeder. Have not had a claim to really ascertain how that would be handled. Hope to not have a claim of course. My rating is neutral at this point. The waiting period which is 14 days I fully understand. However, I am still being billed for the entire month despite technically not having insurance for half of the month. Minor irk but worthy of mention.

Insurance in general is a sham
All insurance policies are just leveraged risk between all the people who sign up and the company that pockets their money. Every monthly premium goes into the company's pockets with only a small fraction being paid out to people who actually need it. This applies to pets, cars, homes, people, and everything. I previously produced insurance and I can tell you first hand, it truly is all a waste of money. So is working for a company for the rest of your life. Break free from the matrix. Free your mind.

Worst pet insurance ever. If you have a pre-existing condition, any medical bill will be rejected as a pre-existing condition. I went vet for a skin allergy; they rejected the whole bill due to a preexisting condition. Even the vet has said they are not related!!!! Keep away from this company. I should have read other people's reviews before I signed up. they are many people here complaining the wrongful rejects due to the term you like to use- pre-existing condition!!!! They don’t cover or reimburse for anything. Beware- if any medical notes indicate symptoms of any condition before your policy, they will consider that a pre-existing condition. Waste of money & time- don’t bother.

After signing up for Spot I received a phone call from Dan making sure I understood the policy we chose. He was fantastic and answered all questions. This was a conversation not a scripted survey and he understood our pet insurance needs. I am new to Spot and feel better about choosing this company as part of our pet care team.

Deceptive Practice to be aware of
Spot was highly recommended to me by several acquaintances. As a result, I signed up online on Dec 25th for Spot for our 10 mos. old cavachon who is still at the trainer's facility and will be delivered to us Jan 2. I received a call from Spot a few days later (on Dec 29th) ostensively inquiring about whether we knew how the insurance worked and how to file claims and if we had any questions. In the course of the conversation, I mentioned that our dog would be delivered on Jan 2nd by the trainer. The representative harped on the point that the dog was not yet in our full possession and insisted we were not covered since the dog was not yet in our possession. I explained that the dog is fully owned and paid for by us and I tried to explain this to her, but it made no difference. She insisted that we had to reset the starting date to Jan 2nd and extend out the waiting period. The dog is healthy and again recently vet checked and offered to provide her a copy of the vet report. I told her all this, but it made no difference. This seemed like a deceptive practice to me as it was not disclosed on the Spot website and the representative from Spot was insistent and not willing to escalate the matter to a higher level. This made me think that Spot might handle claims if I had any in a similar and deceptive matter to avoid payment. Had this issue on physical possession of the dog been clearly disclosed on the Spot website, I would have made the initial starting date later. As a result, I canceled our insurance with Spot and went with another provider. The cancellation was within the 30 day period and therefore I received a full refund.

It was very easy to build a plan that was what I wanted and that I could afford.
