What's Covered?

Spot Pet Insurance covers any injuries, accidents, and illnesses, including emergency treatments and diagnostics like X-rays and MRIs. Your Spot insurance policy also pays for medications, prescription foods, and behavioral treatments conducted by a vet. Spot’s coverage also includes hereditary and chronic conditions, and will pay for alternative therapies like acupuncture if they are used to treat a covered condition.

If you have multiple pets, Spot Pet Insurance offers a 10% discount for every additional pet for which you buy coverage.

What's Not Covered

Spot Pet Insurance does not cover any pre-existing conditions, even if they are curable. In addition, the company doesn’t cover any routine care, such as teeth cleaning or annual physicals, unless you purchase a preventative care plan as an add-on. If you choose an accident-only plan, only medical expenses directly resulting from an accident (not an illness) are covered.

Waiting Periods

Any insurance policy from Spot Pet Insurance does not take effect until 14 days after you purchase. Spot’s 30-day guarantee means that you will receive reimbursements within a month of filing your claim.

Coverage Limits

Spot Pet Insurance offers annual payout limits from $2,500 per year all the way up to unlimited coverage.

Reimbursement and Deductibles

Spot Pet Insurance offers three reimbursement models: 70%, 80%, and 90%. You can also choose a deductible of $100, $250, $500, $750, or $1,000 per year for your insurance plan.

Claims and Service

Spot Pet Insurance doesn’t require approval before you visit a vet or emergency clinic. Instead, you can simply submit your claim for reimbursement afterwards by using the Spot mobile app or Spot’s online portal. Claims can be submitted up to 270 days after treatment.

To file a claim, all you need to submit is an image of your invoice. In some cases, Spot may follow up with you or the vet to obtain your pet’s full medical records or additional details on the treatment. Spot doesn’t provide an estimate for how long claims take to pay out, but you can check the status of your claim at any time through your online account.

If you need help filing a claim, you can get in touch with Spot’s customer support team by phone or email. Support is available from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM ET, Monday to Friday.

    The best coverage you can find!

    I did a search with different companies, and Spot Pet has the best coverage. The very next day after I bought the policy for my two kittens an underwriter contacted me to ask me if I had any questions regarding the coverage. She was able to confirm that this plan does not exclude completely pre-existing conditions. After the condition has been treated and not relapsed for 180 days, if it happens again it will be covered.! ❤️ I love this specially because one of my kittens is currently been treated for bladder stones. Absolutely it was the best option.

Within five minutes of signing up, all Tigger's data was loaded and accessible -- unlike our previous carrier who after a year still hadn"t gotten data entered.     I opted for this insurance for a couple of main reason; one, it was discounted via my employer and second I wanted to take sign up as soon as possible because I have some routine visits for my pet coming up within the next 30 days. I received a call from a rep and they explained to me that routine visits are not covered and that I had to add those services at checkout....that I couldn't make that change now, had to wait for a year to make that change on my policy. If I would have know this I would have looked out for the option to add this via checkout but I wasn't aware this wasn't covered by default and the fact that I just signed up within the past week, you would think I could still modify my policy to now add those services instead of now having to wait a year to do so.

    I recently changed my insurance to Spot. I was nervous as my other company had made it so easy to claim and always settled fairly but I really liked the idea that the consultation fee was covered with spot. We just had an awful summer with both dogs either injured or sick from one thing or another. 7 claims in 6 weeks and everyone one of them was paid to the amount expected.     Increased Renewal Rates after 1 year

    Everything was great with this company until the yearly renewal came through. 1 year old English Bulldog. Just a couple minor claims. We have the best policy spot offered. Also we are retired so these increases are not easy for us. The monthly rate went from $118.78 to a whopping $156.91. I called them and the only thing they offered was to lower my coverages. We had Nationwide with our previous Bulldog, and had very few increases, and none this high. Just be aware that this can, and most likely will happen.

    Been on hold on the phone multiple times for an hour. Every time I sign up for a call back somehow the call gets interrupted (I agree that could be my fault sometimes; never have I received a call back afterwards) Also I have a file to claim because my two new kitties that I adopted from the ACC were not totally healthy (unbeknownst to me). And the vet cost was over $1500 dollars. I signed up for SPOT insurance like 3 days before that vet visit and found I could still not be covered because the date the insurance is active isn’t until the end of the month. If I don’t get help for that claim with SPOT I’m leaving with a quickness.

    Oh my God the spot dog insurance company is amazing such big hearts I just lost my Cane Corso which was 11 months old I was only customer for 2 days and they went the extra mile make sure I had my refund and they called me with their condolences sent me a beautiful card saying how sorry they were for my loss I would highly highly recommend them what a company that cares they all have big hearts I would definitely recommend them

    Never have I experienced such compassion and understanding from a company as I have from Spot. My cat friend passed away and they called me to ask how I was doing and needed anyone to talk to.     Story of my Spicy Cat, I have had Spot Pet Insurance for my 4 cats for over 6 months. Recently, my 12 year old male cat had a Urinary Tract Blockage which turned into an emergency and ended us up at the Hospital. It was suggested that he have an operation so that he would not become blocked with stones again. At a cost of over $5,000 you can imagine I was hesitant, but considering this surgery would prevent this happening in the future and prevent a possible premature death sentence by not making it to the hospital in time the next time, I agreed to the surgery. I was hoping this would be covered by Spot pet insurance and so Medvet in Worthington OH helped me get an extension on my Care Credit card so that all the cost would be covered. Sigh of relief. For now, everything was going to be ok and my best friend and companion, Spicy cat was getting the surgery he needed. A couple days after the surgery I filed the claim which was fast and easy. Within around 2 weeks I received nearly $5,000 deposited in my bank account. That was exactly the cost of the entire treatment, minus the deductible and I was reimbursed the rate of 90% . Wow, Spot pet insurance saved my cat's life and saved me from literally going through what little bit of money I have worked so hard to save for the past two years. When I signed up for Spot pet insurance I took all of my cats to their initial appointment to make sure there were no health problems and this is something I could not have planned for. This is the perfect scenario of why all pet caregivers should find a place in their budget for the minimal amount that it cost to cover your animals. It can save your wallet and your heart from breaking later. If you are doing the right thing and using the insurance as a back up and not purchasing it because your trying to "get over" on the company when an animal already has something wrong, then you will be pleased with SPOT pet insurance. The peace of mind is well worth the cost. Spot Pet Insurance is now officially Spice approved!-Jen

    Goodbye Nationwide....hello SPOT

    Wonderful pricing and easy site to navigate thru. Got a much better deal for MILO than with Nationwide who pays NOTHING....and jerks you around for MONTHS for a $50 dollar claim. SPOT seems like the real deal....and although we just signed up...we feel confident they will deliver when a claim is submitted. The nicest thing was 2-3 days after we registered MILO....I got a call from someone at SPOT thanking me for my business.....and wanted to know about MILO....the 'mayor' of Boca Raton.....ALL is good.....

    SAVE YOUR MONEY AND PETS LIFE

    Same situation as others. Vet said sign up, they are a great service and can help you with your pet's cost over the years. However, months later, my dog gets really sick. They said it was a pre-condition. Which is totally untrue. Canceled the same day. Don't waste your time and money for services and payouts they control. Worse than regular human insurance "Obamacare" and that is saying a lot. Run from this spam! Again, they keep quoting pre-existing when in fact it was not! Do not believe them and just save up the money you would spend on your pet for insurance. All they do with it invest it and make their money so they can in return say that something was pre-existing. Jokers!

    6/11/21 This rating is currently based on my limited experience with SPOT. I have not yet filed a claim. I am basing this review off off the registration and payment process as well as excellent customer service (which includes real people answering the phones). I am getting ready to go through the claims process and will change this review accordingly if necessary. I pledge to be fair with my expectations and expect that I will be treated fairly according to the terms of the contract (which I read forward and backward before enrolling) but can be very open ended when it comes to diagnosing pets with pre-existing conditions or preventative testing v/s necessary testing as you can see by previous reviews. I truly hope all goes well and I'm able to leave this 5 start rating where it is. I'll update soon.

    HELP

    Very new to this pet insurance. Still haven’t received any type of confirmation on her insurance card or any type of number that I can give when visiting my pet veterinarian. Tried calling the customer service number 9 AM my time and the message said I am calling after hours I should be calling 6 AM till 6 PM mountain time? I just need to know what my policy number is so I can finally get my pet to get a regular check up and it seems I can’t get a hold of anyone plus your site doesn’t want to open so I can’t even log in.

    They cover a lot at a fair price

    I signed up with Spot about a week ago so I cannot rate their service with claims yet. but they were easy to sign up with. I compared them with about 10 other pet insurance companies. they were not the highest price nor the lowest price. but when I compared what they offered with the other companies, I thought Spot gave you a lot for the money.

    Just got the policy for my 11 month old cat

    Just got the policy for my 11 mo. old cat who's decided a barn plus acres of hayfield and pasture wasn't enough space and has started to go across the busy road in front of our house. Haven't been able to 'reason' or explain to him the dangers in this so figured I d better get him insurance. Hope to never need it.

    SPOT covers kennel cough

    SPOT Pet Insurance was so helpful when my 1 yr old puppy got kennel cough. I didn't even know what pet insurance was, but a friend recommended I get a policy after I bought my dog and I'm glad he did! They were able to get me reimbursed really fast so I didn't have to worry about paying a ton out of pocket and caring for my puppy at the same time. Definitely going to recommend this to my friends!

    I love SPOT!

    I have a 1 year old Spynx cat who loves to jump off the top of my tall dresser! After getting him on SPOT Pet Insurance, I feel very relieved that if he jumps off and hurts himself, he will be covered! I have had both dogs and cats in the past who had Urinary issues and each vet visit was way too much for me to handle financially. Thank you SPOT for making me feel safe!

    SPOT helped save my German Shepard

    I love SPOT Pet Insurance! Our German Shepard mix got into the trash and had to get her stomach pumped, but SPOT took all the worry away from having to pay the whole $3000 bill. Getting reimbursed was super fast and easy. We are getting another dog soon, and the first thing I plan to do is get another policy! Thank you SPOT for giving me peace of mind and protecting my little rascal! I'd highly recommend this pet insurance for any pet owners, it's the best thing I've ever done for my dog.

    I have both my dogs covered and one dog needed surgery filed a claim and in two weeks there was check in bank account. Very easy to file easy to understand how to file and if you have any question you can call and they are very helpful in answering any questions that you have. Just can't say enough about this company.
