Advantages Over Traditional Banks

Founded in 2018, Oxygen is a neobank that has several advantages over traditional banks. Its 4 loyalty tiers offer flexible banking solutions, with the Earth tier carrying no annual fee, transaction fees, or minimum balance requirements. Users can create virtual cards for risky purchases and control card permissions from the mobile app. Even better, Oxygen’s mobile app allows you to access all of your account’s features anytime, anywhere, so you can manage your finances on the go.

Cutting-Edge Banking Services

What sets Oxygen apart from other banks is its loyalty tiers and cutting-edge protections. Personal banking options include Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire accounts. Earth’s PVC Card offers 2% cashback, 0.25% savings APY, and 3 virtual cards. Water’s Embedded Metal Card offers 4% cashback, 0.75% savings APY, and 15 virtual cards. Wind’s All Metal Card provides 5% cashback, 1.01% savings APY, and unlimited virtual cards. And, finally, Fire’s Mechanically Engraved All Metal Card rewards owners with 6% cashback, 1.25% savings APY, and unlimited virtual cards.

Additionally, paying certain bills and travel expenses with your card grants you added protections at no extra cost. When you use your card to pay your monthly cellular phone bill, Oxygen covers your phone for damages or theft up to $500 per claim or $1,000 per 12-month period. If you use your card to rent a car, Oxygen covers most rentals for damages and theft up to the Actual Cash Value (ACV). Oxygen’s Cardholder Guide to Benefits gives a detailed overview of all other features.

With Oxygen’s mobile app, users have total control over their spending. There is no limit to the number of transfers and wires you can make daily, and it's easy to send funds via PayPal, Venmo, Green Dot, or an external bank account. If you don’t want to call customer support, you can chat with an agent directly from the app during business hours. In addition, business account users can create an LLC through Oxygen’s app prior to completing an application.

Traditional Banking Services

While Oxygen is a mobile-only bank, it still delivers some familiar traditional banking services. Users can access over 40,000 Allpoint ATMs, surcharge-free, in all 50 states, including the District of Columbia. Although it does not offer IRAs or loans, Oxygen savings accounts provide competitive interest rates ranging from 0.25%–1.25%. Additionally, you can earn between 2% and 6% cashback on qualifying purchases and $1 when you buy groceries and coffee.

Interest Rates and Fees

Oxygen’s Earth and business account holders pay no monthly or transaction fees and require no minimum balance to open or maintain an account. Water, Wind, and Fire account owners pay an annual fee of $19.99, $49.99, and $199.99, respectively. However, Oxygen waives the annual fee if you meet both the minimum spending and deposit requirements for 12 consecutive months. Oxygen offers access to 40,000 ATMs in Allpoint’s network, surcharge-free, while out-of-network ATM withdrawals incur a $3 charge. Depending on the tier, interest rates on balances under $20,000 range from 0.25%–1.25% APY.

Customer Service and Online Experience

As a mobile-only bank, Oxygen’s services can only be accessed through the Oxygen mobile app. Should customers need help with their account, phone and live chat support is available from 10 am–10 pm ET, Monday–Friday. You may also contact customer service representatives via email at support@oxygen.us.

Oxygen’s friendly customer service staff can help you access your account, find more information about services and fees, and utilize app features.

Mobile App

To sign up for and access a personal or business account, you must download Oxygen’s free mobile app from the Apple or Google Play store. Through the app, you can make unlimited daily deposits and send or receive unlimited wire transfers. In addition to ACH and wire transfers, Oxygen’s mobile app supports check deposits, PayPal, Venmo, Green Dot, and external bank account connections. You can manage virtual cards, controls, and spending freezes through the app dashboard and locate nearby Allpoint ATMs with its ATM locator. The app is available for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

Security

All accounts carry FDIC insurance up to $250,000 through Oxygen’s banking services provider, The Bancorp Bank. The app offers biometric security features and is PCI DSS certified. Additionally, virtual cards enable you to avoid using your physical debit card for risky purchases. However, Oxygen does share some personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Oxygen’s privacy policy provides full details about how it uses and shares your data.

Summary

Oxygen provides secure and affordable mobile-only banking services for individuals and businesses. Users can earn between 2%–6% cashback on qualifying purchases and gain protection benefits when paying for certain bills using their debit card. APY for personal accounts ranges from 0.25–1.25%, and although business accounts do not earn interest, owners pay no annual or transaction fees. In addition to managing spending, transferring funds, and generating virtual cards, Oxygen allows users to create an LLC during the business account application process.

    Do not use oxygen banking!

Do not use oxygen banking!! I’ve been using them for about 2 months and have had 3 different times when I had an Order cancelled and they never refunded me the money. I called them and they said they refunded it and would send me statements. When I got the statement there was nothing on it about that charge at all. I’m pretty sure they are stealing customers money so I’ve stopped using them altogether. Their customer service is also horrible and hard to get ahold of, wonder why! I keep a close eye on my money I know what goes in and what goes out and they never refunded those amounts so if you decide to bank with them be careful and watch your money carefully! Hope this review prevents others from losing their money! Good luck!

I open an account with oxygen and added…

I open an account with oxygen and added this account to receive the direct deposit of my job. Just like many banks I know ppl set their account to have their direct deposit from their job. They blocked my account, I called them to close my account because many times I tried to use my card online it always declined while I have money on my account. They said I can’t close my account because I was using my account for business and my account was not supposed to be for business. I was not using my account for business! I only had set it to be the account where I have a direct deposit from my job. Another thing is, you can’t transfer money from your account and you can’t cash. I had to make a check in my husband’s name, wait until it arrived it by mail, so I could have my money. They are not unblocking my account so I can use my money, they also are not allowing me to close the account. My money is with them and I can’t have it.

    "Free" Checking isn't free anymore

I opened up a personal account with them in late 2018. I used this account only for direct deposit, and only to pay my rent. For almost 3 years, it was great. I received the rent portion of my paycheck 2-3 days early, so I was never late. Then a few months ago, they "revamped" their personal account program so now they have "levels" that you must qualify for (in deposits, debit card usage, etc), and these levels cost money. The perks of these levels are more or less the same perks that Oxygen has always touted but parsed out into most to least desirable. The "free" level has no perks, but no fees either. The more desirable features, the higher your annual fee will be to use them. Without the perks, Bancorp is the worst bank you could use so I'm not sure what they're getting at. While the change doesn't significantly affect me, I'll be taking my money elsewhere purely on priciple.

    Worst F**king Bank Ever

I would give them zero stars if I could. This is the worst bank I ever had an account with. They froze my account for no good reason, due to their very flawed banking system and now I'm struggling to pay my bills. It’s been weeks now and still no f**king progress. This really sucks especially during this pandemic. If your thinking of opening an account with them DON'T DO IT, these people are not worth it, they don't care about their customers. I'm going to start using crypto now screw the banks.

    $$$ missing and closed account

I loved Oxygen at first, I referred all of my employees to them, and my family. I started playing a little online poker 6 months ago, and there wasn't ever an issue with this. I paid for every transaction made, I even spoke to a representative because they were charging me international fees every transaction whereas Chime did not. They just said it was a company policy and it being only 10 cents to 20 cents it didn't bother me much. Out of the blue they closed my account, due to online gambling. There was a balance of 456.79 in my account. They said they'd sent the money back to the issuers and I'd have to contact them. I can't get any of statements because it won't let me in my account. Now it says my balance is 19 and some change when I call customer service and they can't explain anything to me. It's completely unprofessional and I would like to know where my money is.. don't bank with them. They are great at first then they strike like a thief in the nignt.

I am very disappointed in Oxygen

I am very disappointed in Oxygen. They was my best bank to work with and now since a couple of so called updates they have completely made it impossible to access it other than by phone. After spending roughly an hour on the phone with someone I could barely understand and resetting my password still made no difference. Therefore I will use the $2+ I have left in there and close my account. Beware friends people are out to take what you got. Vemeo was the first to start cheating people. They took a little over $20 and never have returned it on the assumption that I had the wrong email which I did not

    GARBAGE!

GARBAGE!! CANCEL NOW! Had a personal account for months, at most. One Thursday morning, 2:04 AM, they send me an email (which i didn't see until around 3PM friday) that they cancelled and CLOSED all my accounts, sent my direct deposit back to where it was from and that the matter is closed for discussion. for an apparent violation of the TOS and "deposit agreement" this is what the email said: "Due to recent activity on the account that was flagged by our security monitoring processes, unfortunately, we have identified your account for closure. These activities do not align with the Deposit Agreement you signed at account opening. A few reminders when the account is closed: The account will remain inaccessible. Any recent deposit(s) from unemployment, IRS, SBA or other government sources will be returned back to the sender. If funds in the account are not sufficient to cover the return, we will work with you to fund this as well to cover the gap. If there is more than one Oxygen associated account, we may take funds from another associated account. Additionally, this conversation is now closed....." THERE WAS NO ACTIVITY. I GET PAID, WEEKLY FROM THE SAME EMPLOYER! worst thing is i had to spend an absurd amount of time JUST TO GET THEM TO SEND MY GD MONEY BACK TO ME!! they closed my account and weren't even going to bother sending me my $ back, or letting me know ANYTHING. so now i have 0$ until they mail me my $ 7-10 business days, which really means 2 weeks. not to mention the time it will take for my direct deposit to make its way BACK to my employer and then ask them to cut me a check. absolute garbage of a bank, g.a.r.b.a.g.e. spoke to customer service many times. useless with a capital U. nice people, sure. but its always "the back office" fault. RUN CANCEL its NOT WORTH the SMALL AMOUNT OF CASH BACK for the debit card purchases, thats what drew me in...cancel cancel cancel cancel!!

Do NOT open an account and if you did

Do NOT open an account and if you did, CLOSE IT IMMEDIATELY! I traveled to Albania, before I traveled I asked them if I could use it, they said "you can use it anywhere Visa is accepted". I come to Albania, I can't use my card, can't access my funds. I call them, they tell me "U.S. Treasury law does not allow transactions in Albania". My Chase card worked, FROM THE U.S, but Chase doesn't follow laws, only Oxygen does. I am closing my account as soon as I transfer my funds.

    Thanks for your free services

I have used the Oxgen Bank account for over 3 months. Much better than N26 or Revolut (not even close). I find myself using this card more than my other debit and credit cards. The card arrived quickly. Was very easy to setup direct deposit and send money to and from my other accounts. The cash back offers are great. Love the 7% back at Trader’s Joe’s. Switched my Uber and Lyft payments to this Oxygen account given the cash back. The APP updates you when a purchase is made and how much cash is available to be redeemed. Have it synced with my watch and see the Trader Joe’s cash back on my watch as I leave the store. Recently sent a check from the APP for a bill. Love not having to write checks nor find stamps. Used the virtual card feature as well. Looking forward to early pay. Great company! Great features!

    Fraudulent charges

Fraudulent charges, customers service is a joke and did not help at all. Attempted to tell me I wouldn’t get a provisional credit for up to 20 business days, ended up having my attorney contact them with the actual law (which is they have up to, but no more than 10 business days), and only then did they release my funds. Thank god I only use this account for random stuff on PayPal.. with my capital one account (main), the only 2 times I have had fraud the credit was in my account by the time I even got off the phone with them. Do not bank with these p r i c k s they are criminal.

"Free" Business Banking (with Predatory Partnerships) is Worth Every Penny.

Oxygen is the ultimate inconvenience for business banking. Like others, Oxygen sucked me in with the cash back offers on its business debit card. They also offer free services regardless of how many checks you write and/or your balance. However... Oxygen is LOADED with hidden fees and their customer service department is a pathetic example of passing the buck until their customer exhausts themselves. Need to deposit cash? No problem: go to any Green Dot affiliate and make a deposit... then pay a $5ish fee. That's not exactly free banking, is it? The real problem comes from their check deposit service, Ingo Money. This company is a vulture when it comes to giving people access to their money. If you want a "free" deposit, you better have enough money to get through the mandatory 10 business day hold on any check you deposit. If you can't wait that long... get ready for a 5% charge on your deposit amount. Yeah... you lose 5% OF YOUR PRETAX income because Ingo Money is a glorified check cashing/payday loan company. Furthermore, Oxygen never discloses any of this in their enrollment details because Ingo Money is a subcontractor. Their policies and charges are not Oxygen's policies and charges. And when you set up a business account with Oxygen, how about that check cashing service Ingo offers? Well... Oxygen doesn't forward any documentation, so Ingo won't deposit checks made out to your business. Those checks have to be made out to YOU, PERSONALLY, raising a whole host of red flags for commingling and other auditable behavior. To rectify the problem with Oxygen is a non-starter because nobody at their customer service department is actually a banker. It's a call center in India. All they do is say "sorry for the inconvenience" and wish you a good day. It's pathetic. Rectifying the problem with Ingo Money requires a "24-48 BUSINESS HOUR" review period similar to the delay in setting up the Oxygen account. Furthermore, Ingo Money took a week of daily customer service calls with hold times of an hour or more, to identify why deposits were being declined. Then Ingo Money said they could probably waive the instant deposit fee for the check that has been held up (and continues to be held up). Then Ingo Money said they can't waive the instant deposit fee. So here's what "no cost" banking actually costs: IN LOST INCOME: - $5ish per cash deposit. - 5% per check deposit. - $450 in lost revenue potential (see below). IN LOST TIME: - 5 Business Days to establish the Oxygen account - 5 Business Days to figure out why you can't deposit checks. - 3-6 Business Days to resolve the problem Oxygen doesn't know it created by not submitting your business credentials to Ingo Money when establishing your business account. - Who knows how many Business Days to be made aware of the fact that you can deposit your business checks? - 10 Business Days to have access to business revenue, which is crippling for a start up or small business. - 15+ Business Hours wasted on hold or with incompetent and/or contradictory customer service (at my minimum time charge of $30/hr, that's $450 of lost revenue potential). TIME TO MAKE AN ACTUAL DEPOSIT FOR YOUR BUSINESS: 31 Business Days (6+ Calendar Weeks)... or you can pay fees (reasonable to exorbitant). All in all, Oxygen is nothing more than a piece of doo doo with a thin veneer of gold leaf to make it look amazing. Their website and app are sleek. The packaging your new card comes in is fantastic. The promises they make, on the surface, look incredible. However, that slick package doesn't come with a tracking number. If you have any issues getting your account online and usable... figure it out on your own: Oxygen refuses to contact Ingo (their contractual subcontractor) on your behalf to resolve problems. This means YOU are your customer service department for Oxygen. And that "free/no fee business checking account?" Most people and most businesses don't have enough cash flow to float income checks for 2 Business Weeks (or more, depending on whatever the Ingo 8 Ball predicts for whether or not your deposit will actually be approved), so you are realistically going to be hit with 5% charges on EVERY check deposit you REALLY need to make. Oxygen's partnerships with Green Dot and Ingo Money represent the classic "Bait and Switch" scam: they promise amazing rewards and free services, but subcontract with predatory service providers. I can only imagine how much they're making on the backend. Some may argue that Oxygen is, just like many of their business customers, "a start up." They can't afford a fancy free mobile check deposit system. That's not true at all: Oxygen is a subsidiary of Bancorp Bank. They have the infrastructure to deliver on their promises. Oxygen is a misleading (if not fraudulent) bank. Use at your own risk.

    WORST OF ALL BANKS

I used Oxygen bill pay to send a check. Two weeks later I called the recepiant and was told the check was received and cashed. A week later I checked account for proof of payment and discovered that Oxygen only showed a check was mailed. I then called customer service (3 times) and was told they don't have any information as to cashed checks and cannot give me proof of payment. How can that be? A bank is supposed to provide proof of payment. Authorities must shut down Oxygen.

    Waste of Time

Terrible bank, I attempted to open a business account and had no response for the application for 2 weeks. When I followed up, they responded within few hours with rejection, and that was the message they left: " We can't disclose exactly why your application does not meet the current criteria for opening an oxygen business account," So not only I lost 2 weeks to launch my business, they didn't give me the courtesy to explain why the account application was rejected. Take your business elsewhere.

    WORST BANK EVER!!!!

WORST BANK EVER!!!!! My boyfriend transferred $200 of his stimulus check from his chime account to his oxygen and it not only took 2-3 weeks for it to hit his account, they then immediately closed his account for "third party transferring"?? My boyfriend then called customer service to see about getting his $200 transferred back to his chime, they told him that it would be transferred back within 30-days. After 30-days we still hadn't seen any money, so after another call to customer service they told him they would send him a check in the mail within 60-days, Low and behold... STILL NO MONEY!!! By this point were both pissed, so we called yet a third time, and now their telling us only a supervisor can release funds from a closed account... 3 and a half months after receiving his stimulus check and were still having to fight with them about getting OUR money back.. Ive now contacted a lawyer to sue Oxygen.

Poor Customer Service. No Transparency. Held money hostage.

Do not bother. At the least, they have poor customer service with little to no transparency in their decision making process. At the most, they seem a little scammy to me by the looks of their website. They locked me out of the app without an email and held my money hostage for weeks. Avoid at all cost. I'll just stick with CashApp. I can verify all of my troubles with screenshots and records.

Oxygen bank is the worst bank in the…

Oxygen bank is the worst bank in the world there communication system is outdated. If you want to talk to a live person good luck with that the odds are a million to 1 you get ahold of someone. They are not releasing an authorization hold even though walmart said they tried to contact them several times to release and every time they rejected the release? How does that work. Walmart is telling them release this persons money and my bank says no? Worst bank ever im not even sure if they have real people working there cant reach them by phone.

A sad excuse for a bank

Terrible company. We had 2 holds from 2 different hotels and we had told them that the hotels had let them go, we even gave them the transaction number. They told us that in order to let go of the processing charge, they would have to talk to the merchant themselves AND they wouldn’t be willing to call them theirselves. So I had to do a three-way phone call with the hotels. They not only wanted the transaction number, but they also wanted the merchant ID which is totally abnormal and not professional at all. I’ve never had to jump through so many hoops. The hotels were even getting pissed at oxygen and demanding the funds get released! It has now been 30 days and they are supposed to automatically release the funds, I’ve been on the phone with them for 45 minutes and they’re still giving me a hard time over it! They're still asking me for “documentation” (which I already gave them). I also filled a dispute with them and spent over an hour on the phone with them dealing with it and THEY NEVER EVEN FULLY FILED IT!!! This company is a joke. They have like 4 people working in the customer service department. I’ve called them so many times that I know the names of all the customer service agents and their supervisor. If I hadn’t had to wait so long to get my own money back, I would have closed my account long ago.
