It does not charge any checking account, overdraft, ATM, or minimum balance fees, nor does it require a minimum deposit to get started. Additionally, with access to up to 20 checking accounts and 50 physical or virtual debit Mastercards per account, Relay makes it easy for small businesses to share access and transfer funds.

Cutting-Edge Banking Services

Relay’s flexible access levels enable you to set up different logins for each user on your account and restrict their permission levels from read-only to full cash management. You can automate spending limits for team members and establish direct bank feeds to QuickBooks or Xero. 

Relay Pro members gain access to upgrades including automatic import and one-click reconciliation of bills in QuickBooks and Xero. Additionally, Relay Pro lets you schedule multi-step rules for bill payments and send international and domestic wires for free. 

Within its app, Relay makes it easy to send or receive payments via check, ACH, or wire. Its added security lets you freeze card transactions with the click of a button and review your transaction history quickly and easily.

Traditional Banking Services

Like most banks, Relay makes it easy for you to deposit, transfer, and manage your money. It offers mobile check deposits, ACH, and wire transfers through its app and provides free ATM withdrawals from 30,000 Allpoint ATMs nationwide. Deposits received via ACH or check are available within 1-2 days for Relay Standard users and same day for Relay Pro users. 

That said, Relay does not currently provide alternative banking services such as retirement accounts, mortgages, or loans.

Interest Rates and Fees

You can sign up for a free Relay Standard account or pay a monthly fee of $30 for a Relay Pro account. Accountants and bookkeepers can receive a discount of up to 27% through its Partner Program, based on the number of clients they have signed up with Relay. No matter what plan you choose, Relay does not charge any checking account, ATM, minimum balance, overdraft, or bounced check fees. However, deposits do not earn any interest, as its APY is 0.00%.

Relay’s customer experience team is available via phone from 9am-5pm ET, Monday-Friday. It also offers email support 7 days a week at support@relayfi.com. Outside of regular business hours, you can get guidance from Relay’s FAQs page. Mobile App

All Relay accounts receive FDIC insurance up to $250,000.     The Absolute Worst! Moving My Account at the End of the Year.

    The absolute worst! I had decided to use this company due to their low/no fees and their focus on technology. Since I am a small freelancer, I don't keep high balances and would likely incur monthly fees at a traditional bank. After banking with them for a while, I realize that it's worth it to just pay the monthly fees with Chase/BOA/etc. At least they're competent. Relay is a good concept, but the implementation and support are horrendous. My physical debit card almost never works correctly, and my iPay card doesn't work at all (declines every time, even though I see no issues on my side). I went to use my debit card a few weeks ago, and it declined for a nominal amount. It appears that the limit somehow got zeroed out online, even though I never touched this setting. I'm afraid to use it anywhere, because it's so embarrassing when it doesn't go through. Another thing that I can't stand is that they don't group transactions like a normal bank. They essentially process transactions as they're presented, which is really unusual to me. Usually, with any reputable bank, all your daily transactions are pending. Then, during overnight processing, they group together deposits and then process withdrawals. With Relay, everything settles as it happens. You can have debits come through in the morning and have deposits get posted later in the day. It's very important to have sufficient funds in your account, because if the deposits post after the debits (and you need those deposits to cover any of your transactions), the payments will bounce. This wouldn't happen with a traditional bank, as they typically post deposits before withdrawals, even if they occur at slightly different times on the same day. I also find their ACH posting to be very inconsistent. Sometimes it happens early in the morning, sometimes it's in the afternoon, and other times, it's even later. My experience with larger banks is that they typically post everything in the morning (with few exceptions), and it makes it very easy to know where you stand. If you need customer service, good luck getting them on the phone. Their message says the hold times are typically under 5 minutes, but that's complete nonsense. You'll be waiting for 10 and then told to leave a message. And good luck waiting for them to call you back. The few times I've emailed support, they've responded promptly. However, the support they actually provide is average at best. I love technology and am drawn to companies that are innovative. Unfortunately, Relay just misses the mark for me. I plan to close my account at the end of the year and move elsewhere (possibly to a Credit Union). I had high hopes, but I have been so disappointed.

    Wow. Not Your Average Customer Care.

    Just coming off of three back-to-back unpleasant experiences with big online banks (Brex, First Internet Bank of Indiana, and Grasshopper) who all failed my business in the area of communications, I was stressed about getting a business back account set up in a short timeframe. My largest client was trying to deposit money, and my current bank took that opportunity to tell me that my account was being closed. I applied to Relay and uploaded my business documents hassle-free, but I needed to convey some particulars with my LLC that are not the norm. That's when I called Relay and got a lovely representative, Raneel B., on the phone. Let me say, I've been in business for years, have my MBA, and I advise organizations about communications. Oh. My. Gosh. Raneel is the type of human resource asset that make companies great. She patiently listened to my pain-points about my other banks, and she was able to immediately articulate a solution to the issues I was having. Not only that, she intuitively asked me a follow-up question to see if I would prefer an alternative solution she devised. I was blown away...a step that took me weeks of waiting at the other institutions, she volunteered to handle for me. Raneel then sent me an email while I was on the phone, to ensure that she could personally receive and expedite an incomplete document that would have held up my application. She told me that, once she got my account set up THAT DAY (!!!!) she would personally write me again to let me know. I was already amazed by her thoroughness and insistence on taking this project through to the finish line, not depending on some other department or person. Sure enough, just a few hours later, just after the official welcome email from Relay, I received another personal note from Raneel letting me know that my account was set up for me. No mention of the details we'd discussed, just ideas on how I could quickly get acclimated to my new bank. So I checked, and... WOW. She had obviously taken fantastic notes, because not one thing was incorrect, and not one detail missing from what she'd determined needed to be done. This thoroughness literally saved me hundreds of dollars in billable hours instead of having to follow up with a bank for weeks. And that's when I understood Raneel's job title: Customer Experience Specialist. Yep. The smart folks at Relay have put their best and brightest on the front lines, rather than bean counting in the back. Thank you, Management and C-Suite individuals who have invested in us, the customer, by giving us the absolute BEST customer care in the industry. If Disney had a bank, if Bentley had a bank...this is how they'd treat their small business customers. Thank you. I bet some smart person met Raneel one day and thought, "You know what? We could build a bank around her!" and then did. Nice move. I sought out a way to publicly tell about my experience, because I absolutely will be referring Relay to others. Blessings to you all.     Worsr bank ever for global small company

    I have an international small company. The company is is New York, I live in Liverpool, but travel a lot to Europe and Americas. When I tried to use my account to move my money during a trip to Brazil they cancel my account and block my money. No previous advice. It is the worst provincian bank ever. Relay Support took it up on priority, followed up with their banking partner diligently and helped get a closure on it with full transparency. Though initially I was skeptical in their ability to resolve the issue, but later I could see that they definitely behind it and doing everything in their power to help resolve it.

    Relay solves customers problme as soon as like a magic.

    I was trying to use my relay Physical Business Debit Card at Namecheap.com for purchasing a domain. But Unfortunetly I forgot to set my card limit on my Relay dashboard. After a few failed attept I create virtual card and try them to pay on Namecheap.com but it also declined and I Immediately got an email saying my account is closed. So I contact Relay support team through email and explain them everything. After two days they investigate the issue and restored my account. Not only that, Even after restoration my account wasn't allowing me to do any transection. So I again email them and they replied and solved my issue within 5-10 min.     I am Accountant banking partner since 2020. Out of nowhere my account was closed. There was no notice or anything sent to me. I started figuring out something was wrong when I had money in my account and payments were being cancelled. Then my deposits from my credit card merchants were returned. I sent emails asking support and no response. Finally called customer service and they said they had to speak to compliance and they will give me a call back today. I felt some relief until I spoke to one of my clients that I referred and she stated they did not answer her call, blocked her number and has not responded to email. After that I looked at my clients account that are active users and their accounts are closed also. This is very disappointing because I love Relayfi bank and I have been the biggest cheerleader for many years. I always tell clients and colleagues to open an account with them.

    Froze account when attempting to deposit check.

    The sign-up process with Relay was very easy. The trouble came when we attempted to fund our account. We deposited a check, and Relay immediately froze our account and requested bank statements from our other financial institution (via an unsecured portal) before they would unfreeze our accounts or process any checks. This had an impact as our team had to move quickly to adjust payment methods with our vendors to preserve vendor relations. The Relay team did this right before the Memorial Day weekend so we had no support or way to contact them for 3 days. After a few emails explaining why this is unacceptable, they unfroze the account and gave the explanation first check deposits are subject to more scrutiny. Freezing accounts without notice is never an acceptable way to to keep customers happy and requesting personal information over an unsecured portal demonstrates the lack of good stewerdship on Relay's behalf.

    UPDATE: The Relay referral programs department reached out to me, apologized and explained to me that there has been a disruption in their referral payments due to their internal personnel changes. They did start crediting the missing payments to me and my referees. They also clarified that all referral codes/links generated before the date of terms change, (which I believe is September 1), will require only $1 deposit, not $100. They reassured me that the change in the terms will not affect me. That's good because I can still help the company by onboarding a few more friends, and the $1 low foot print will still give them a great incentive to try the platform. I admit that I was emotional when I wrote my initial review. I'd like to apologize to the company for that. I do acknowledge that they have contacted me in a respectful way, provided me with the needed clarification and offered to make amends. I do think that there must be others in the same situation I was in, and they will need to actively get in contact with them. They don't have to wait until they get more negative reviews. But I did appreciate their kind gesture towards me. ----- I signed up for Relay and funded my new account with $10 USD on August 12 through my friend's referral link. The referral terms page originally stated that both the referee and the referrer would get a $50 bonus each within 14 days if the referee's new account is funded with $1 USD or more. The last time I accessed the terms page was August 19 and it said $1 USD deposit required. I saved a screenshot so I can prove this. Also there are web servers that save past states of websites, which I will not mention here. Relay has stealth-changed their referral program terms, perhaps towards the end of August. Now their terms page says $100 USD deposit is required. And I just discovered this per chance, today. They had made ZERO effort to inform us of this change in the terms. This makes me think they're out to deceive us into signing up. Despite 14 days have passed, I have not received my bonus. So I was upset but did make an additional deposit of $100 today. This week I contacted the support about the missing bonus, and they said I have to wait 14 "business days", not 14 calendar days. Checked the terms again today, but there's no mention of "business days" there, but it says "14 days", period. But frankly, I don't know what excuse they'll make next avoid having to pay me my or my friend's bonuses. Plus, I have alredy referred quite a number of friends and acquaintances because I thought Relay was a great platform that I would recommend anyone to try out. And I told them to deposit $1 first, enjoy the referral bonus and try out Relay, because I had no way of knowing that the referral rules have changed, without them telling me. Now a good portion of them might not get their bonuses and get angry at me. Perhaps this company will keep changing their referral rules in whatever sneaky ways they can get away with onboarding customers and not paying them what they promised.

    When we started our LLC, we were referred to RelayFi as a very convenient, small business friendly, online banking service. At every turn, we’ve been very please with the services offered and the excellent customer service. In one instance, a series of mistakes led to a wire transfer going to the wrong account (not ours).     Getting setup with Relay and excellent customer service

    The process to get setup with Relay is simple. If you have all the documents available, it is a seamless process. The business representative was patient with me because I have a very busy work situation. It is best to reach out to me via e-mail and I was able to get back with them when I had time. I finally got the information to them and everything worked out fine. It is comforting to know that I was talking with a real person instead of a computerized process. The customer service is excellent!

    I'm going to keep this transparent as possible. I ABSOLUTLY LOVE THIS BANK. They are partnered with Evolved Bank and Trust (which has been in business since 1925, it sounds old world too. lol) I've had many banks in my time and this bar far, hands down, is one of the best. They have amazing support and amazing features. If you give a suggestion for a change they work on it or try to at least. The way the bank is set up with the features and abilities, its great. I love how you can move money around and make bank changes quickly and easily. they have a ton of amazing attributes. The fact that you can start a business account with no money and you don't have to have a minimum balance, WHAT? that's great. They do have a BUNCH of amazing points to the positive that I'm not going to list all (check out videos or read FAQs). NOW with all the nice things out of the way. They definitely have some draw backs. For starters, they do not accept cash deposits. Which for some of us, we have some parts of our business that deals in cash, so you have to have a separate bank to accept cash and then transfer it over (which can take a while). So that's a BIG downside. They also don't offer checks yet. I know for me, that would be great feature to have for customers or even employees. So employees don't want a direct deposit or a check mailed to them. They only FDIC cover up to $250k which if you think your business will grow, then you might have to look into other avenues. They also do not offer business loans at the moment (for a small business this would be nice for startup or inventory or whatever). Now as far as the app or website, they have some draw backs but they are always improving and making changes. I don not like the fact that the only way to contact them is through email. I want to be able to call in and speak with someone or be able to get on a chat with a live person. I don't like to do ALL my correspondences through email. Also their in site "bank connecting serve" does not work with all the major banks. And it can take MULTIPLE days to connect a account the old school way of microdeposits. If I remember correctly, Relay is a software company that has partnered with a brick and mortar bank to create this, which IMO, its actually a very good bank. So even with all the negatives, they are still a 5 star bank with TONS of head room to grow.

    DO NOT TRUST...Relay is not a bank, and they are not even based in the USA, check New York Secretary of State Business filings, there is no Relay Finance doing business there. Read the "legal deposit agreement" just a rebranded version of the banking-as-a-service platform Synapse, which has received horrible reviews, read Forbes 2020 article titled Broken Synapse. They do not use normally accepted safety protocols (verifying logins from IP address never used before) to protect your money, their two-factor-authentication doesn't work, and if your money is stolen like mine was, good luck getting it back. They have no regulatory oversight since they arent even a US company, and their dysfunctional platform partner Synapse has repeatedly contradicted their own deposit agreement as well as Uniform Commercial Code/Federal Law.

    No Complaints with Relay Checking!

    I moved to Relay a year ago, after my last online bank closed. I have found the platform easy to use, and I love the mobile app! I've only had one occasion to contact Customer Service, I was able to connect with a live person who confirmed my balance so Capital One would release a sizeable pending transaction. Everything went smoothly! I have moved funds via ACH, with no issues. I sent payments and refunds via check, and my clients received their refunds in a few days. I have NO complaints whatsoever and would not hesitate to recommend Relay to other small businesses. NO FEES!!! Thank you Relay!

    Account closed: left in limbo after waiting one month.

    Account was frozen after one payment from a customer and one payment to a supplier. After a lengthy process the account was unfrozen. I needed to make transactions again, so out of an abundance of caution I decided to make sure there would be no problems and explained in detail all the transactions I expected to receive and make over the next few months. After delaying the response for an entire month and with the payments now long overdue they told me it would not be possible and closed the account, leaving me with no options. This is extremely stressful and has put my business in serious jeopardy.

    There are many steps needed to set up an account. Not that difficult but had a few problems downloading the required documents. After getting account set up, that when all the problems started. When i made my first deposit, they wanted the contracts between my customers and my business before they would process the deposit. Total BS! I refused. Then they put holds on all my credit cards so my employees had no way have paying for expenses. They do not provide a phone number to customer service on the website. Once I was able to find a customer service phone number, the person on the other end could not help me and said he had to send my concerns to other departments. I then tried to cancle my account but was told no. This is by far the worst experiance and would not recommend using them

    The onboarding process was quick and easy, which really impressed me. The support was super friendly too. everything went smoothly. I am very happy that i was able to open my account with RelayFi so quickly, so I can quickly continue with my trades. I had very big problems with my last bank (which I don't want to name now for reasons of fairness), so I switched here to RelayFi as soon as possible.     The Best Expense Management Platform Hands Down

    When my company was searching for an expense management system, we looked in all the wrong places - Brex, Divvy, Airbase. Relay has been a game changer for our expense management. We can create up to 50 expense accounts with a debit card attached to each account. Every team member has access to only the accounts they need to manage. I wish we found Relay much earlier. Our bookkeeper loves the ease of doing our books with Relay connected to our Quickbooks and each individual expense account focused on just one type of expense.     Unsure of what to think now

    I freaked out tonight because my account was not letting me access my funds. They don't have a phone number to call after 5 PM EST and they did this to me at 7:35 PM EST. But I sent them an email and they wrote back after a few hours saying that it was a technical glitch that should be fixed now. Some transactions have to be redone. It was acting like I couldn't get money in or out of my account and saying my business was suddenly not verified so it was scary but I'm glad it's been fixed. Other than this experience I have had good experiences with this bank for my business accounts. I like that there are no fees and I like a lot of their features. I just don't like the technical glitches and how you can't get through to them right away 24/7. So I guess I'm currently on the fence and will keep seeing how it goes; I have a backup brick and mortar bank just in case but would love to switch everything over to Relay if they could be more reliable and have faster communication. I had originally left a 1-star review during my freakout and am upgrading to 3.5-ish??? currently based on this issue with the hopes that it won't happen again and will go back up to being a 5 star business banking option.
