Relay’s accounts come with several notable features that give it an advantage over traditional banks. It does not charge any checking account, overdraft, ATM, or minimum balance fees, nor does it require a minimum deposit to get started. Cutting-Edge Banking Services

Relay’s flexible access levels enable you to set up different logins for each user on your account and restrict their permission levels from read-only to full cash management. You can automate spending limits for team members and establish direct bank feeds to QuickBooks or Xero. 

Relay Pro members gain access to upgrades including automatic import and one-click reconciliation of bills in QuickBooks and Xero. Additionally, Relay Pro lets you schedule multi-step rules for bill payments and send international and domestic wires for free. 

Within its app, Relay makes it easy to send or receive payments via check, ACH, or wire. Its added security lets you freeze card transactions with the click of a button and review your transaction history quickly and easily.

Traditional Banking Services

Like most banks, Relay makes it easy for you to deposit, transfer, and manage your money. It offers mobile check deposits, ACH, and wire transfers through its app and provides free ATM withdrawals from 30,000 Allpoint ATMs nationwide. Deposits received via ACH or check are available within 1-2 days for Relay Standard users and same day for Relay Pro users. 

That said, Relay does not currently provide alternative banking services such as retirement accounts, mortgages, or loans.

Interest Rates and Fees

You can sign up for a free Relay Standard account or pay a monthly fee of $30 for a Relay Pro account. Accountants and bookkeepers can receive a discount of up to 27% through its Partner Program, based on the number of clients they have signed up with Relay. No matter what plan you choose, Relay does not charge any checking account, ATM, minimum balance, overdraft, or bounced check fees. However, deposits do not earn any interest, as its APY is 0.00%.

Relay’s customer experience team is available via phone from 9am-5pm ET, Monday-Friday. It also offers email support 7 days a week at support@relayfi.com. Mobile App

Best bank for accounting. Period.
After discovering the Profit First system, I wanted a bank that would make Profit First easy to implement. Relay is that solution. I LOVE using Relay for many reasons, as it makes accountants' lives easier, but the Profit First implementation in Relay 2.0 is a game-changer. Highly recommended!

I have only just started using Relay, but so far it has been easy to use and they have been very helpful and prompt with my request. Most businesses take 1 or 2 days to respond, Relay takes minutes. The website says could take up to two hours. Great job folks.

Allow for fast - but sometimes hazardous - management
Relay makes it very easy to manage all my accounts, cards, and assets online - which I have often difficult with brick and mortar banks. Different members of my team can be given cards and access levels quickly. Unfortunately - Relay sometimes makes some pretty bad choices about what access levels team members can get. For example, they have NO way to assign permissions to a single team member that can both make deposits and pay bills. That means I have to have my team members make two separate accounts, share account passwords, or get top level administrative access to the entire company - all of which are extremely problematic.

Not ready for primetime...
Not ready for primetime. Insufficient reporting doesn't show running balances. Bounces checks with no notifications or explanation. No response to support tickets. These folks are over their skis. If you're a small business who is overloaded, don't go here. Nightly sweeps are wonderful but everything else is a shitshow!!

The negative reviews here are not…
The negative reviews here are not wrong. While the sign up process was no worse than most online banking systems (took about 5 days), since then it has not been a good experience. First deposit was one day from posting when they requested proof of a contract with my client. Not typical banking process, not even close. I provided it as the funds are important to pay my obligations. It posted on the day they said it would and I thought things were ok. NOPE. I tried to transfer funds out to pay bills since 1) I could not unfreeze my debit card 2) they do not support paper checks. That didn't go well. Transfers out to three different bank accounts I own not only failed, but resulted in ALL THREE being suspended because of the response they got from Relay. WHAT THE ACTUAL??? I've lost hours of my time sorting this out. I reached out to customer service - they did respond in 24 hours - requesting MORE privileged, confidential information on my relationship with my client (one that has existed since 2011). I provided it - redacted - and now crickets. They have frozen my account with MY MONEY in it, and 5 days after providing what sounded like a simple confirmation I've heard nothing. No response from customer service. I though a bank was supposed to be a business partner, not try to drive you out of business. If I could give zero stars with my experience, I would. Do yourself a favor, if you actually need to run your business instead of looking at a number in an app, don't use Relay. I'll be contacting my state banking authority next.

Relay is holding my entire account balance for 60 days due to a “breach”they cannot explain to me,they just emailed stating this and that no further notice would be given to me, never use Relay or any other associated bank again.

After an initial fumble, this bank turns out to be great
UPDATE 5.18.23. The following week I finally received an email response indicating that my incoming payment transfer had bounced because my account had been frozen. I received a call the next day from a customer service rep who had been personally assigned to my case to make sure I was happy. He explained what had happened and answered my questions. He apologized for the customer service delay and said they had recently hired new staff to help with the backlog. He called again a week later to make sure I hadn't had any further problems. I really appreciated the personal follow-up. Since my bank account is now functioning properly, I am able to appreciate the ease of automatic transfers, and rules automatic income email notifications, and quickly and easily downloading multiple bank statements. These were all things that were difficult with my last bank. ---- 5.2.23- I was excited about joining this bank due to the ability to automate Profit First transfers. I made my first transfer in and connected all my accounts over. I tried to make my inter-account transfer, and it said it was successful, but the money was not actually moved. I tried again, more than 5 times. Submitted a chat ticket, no response. Then submit an email ticket, no response. Then I had my first external ACH income transfer bounce today. I finally found a phone number to call them, they did not call back. Called back, and they said to call back later. Since I opened my account several weeks ago, I have not been able to move any of my money between accounts or receive external payments. I have not been able to reach or receive a response from any customer service. This is completely alarming for a financial institution to deny you access to your own funds.

Took out ~$750 of my money due to technical glitch
RelayFi sent out ~$750 of my money to a previous supplier without my knowledge or authorization. When I contacted customer support they shrugged their shoulders, said it was a technical glitch on their end and recommended I go ask the supplier for my money back. They made no apology and no attempt to fix the situation. So if you’d like a bank that takes money out of your account due to technical glitches, this is the bank for you.

Confidence-Building Onboarding Experience
I recently tried another bank to leverage their Profit First feature for allocating revenue to defined accounts automatically. Their onboarding was impossibly difficult, and two months in, and what seemed to be more than a year in business, the whole experience still felt like a clunky startup venture. So when I saw Mike Michalowicz's alliance with Relay, I gave it a go. Every step - from first easy account opening to online and phone support when I had questions - instilled instant confidence in my new bank. SCAM ALERT! REVIEW NO.8 Today is the 16th of April 2023, they closed my account on 8th of December 2022, they said they would send me a disbursement with my money $37,924 10 days after account closure, it's more than 5 months and I didn't receive my money! Please stay away from those scammers! They say they can't tell the reasons for account closures, I have got in touch with victims just like me and it's no result with those scammers! I swear I will not rest untill I get my money back from those theifs! All businesses owners beware! I have been dealing with other FINTECHS, they are all decent, in communication, RELAY FINANCIAL is like a turtle in the race, even the worst fintech company in the market is better than them!

FRAUD ALERT, BEWARE!!
After my 7th Review, now they put me on answering machine, they are a FRAUD, keeping my $37,924 with them for 120 days now although they promised disbursal 10 days after closing account, closed my account 4 months ago for no reason as per them, they never reply my emails or calls, when I call from a different number they treat me in the most rude way ever!

DON'T DO IT SMALL BUSINESS
DON'T DO IT SMALL BUSINESS. I also had a bad experience with Relay cashing my checks and then telling me to prove it was for my business. We provided proof but the Rely team demonstrated that they are not experienced with analyzing business documents. As a result, Relay communicated that there will need to be a 60 day investigation and locked all of the accounts for my company. This happened just after a few weeks of opening an account. It was good until then. I did not give up reaching out to Relay on a regular basis and also sending e-mails to the top executive until all of our money was sent to us. Based on the manner in which Relay handled my small business funds, I WOULD NEVER EVER, EVER, EVER RECOMMEND that a small business use Relay because once they have your money and has made a decision to hold onto it without giving you access can be crippling to a small business. After all that push back from Relay never identified what the real issue was which really makes them appear to have little to no credibility. I warn other small business owners to stay away, as it is not worth the risk, especially in today's environment with runs on banks (even though they are not a bank). At the end of the day, go with a more reputable bank with a long history of good customer service and a local storefront, if possible. I read so many positive reviews about Relay before I made the switch so buyer beware. Most of the negative reviews align with my experience. I hope this review helps someone or another small business.

It's my 5th 1 star review and I wish I can give them less, it's day 110 since those SCAMMERS didn't send my money back to me yet, THEY CLOSE PEOPLE'S BUSINESS ACCOUNTS FOR UNKNOWN REASONS AS PER THEM, very depressing and disgusting! Now I keep calling them everyday, they rarely reply, they don't have customer service, their SCAMMER CEO YUSEPH WEST is now stealing our families money and playing with it, YES THEY STOLE INNOCENT PEOPLE'S MONEY, IF THERE IS A SHORTAGE FOR BASIC LIFE NEEDS IN MY HOUSE BECAUSE OF YOU CLOSING MY ACCOUNT AND STEALING MY MONEY FOR NO REASON, THEN YOU ARE ALL SCAMMERS! They dont let you use the funds in your account. If you go over their prescribed limit you have to wait until next month for it to reset. I had to pay employees from my personal account with cheques. Tried for over a week to access my funds before hand...... Worst bank I have ever dealt with. I would never use them ever again. Stay away!!!!!

I'll never Business Bank with a Traditional Bank Again!
The most HASSLE-FREE Business Banking experience ever! I can open pretty much as many accounts as I want, on my own, without assistance INSTANTLY! Also, the same for setting up virtual debit cards for the accounts, and ordering physical ones for the accounts. I'm in control of the spending limits, and international transaction usability, and I can freeze and reactivate cards on demand. Check deposits can be snapped with the mobile phone app, ACH payouts can be done easily from the app as well. I cannot write checks, but they can be sent via "bill pay" if needed. Since I really don't need to deal with checks or depositing cash, this type of account works great for me and my businesses. After about 3 mergers and acquisitions of my last traditional bank, I've decided to try Relay as an alternative after seeing other reviews here on Trustpilot, and I am super glad I did! My old bank (who I won't mention) was about a 2 star average on here! Trustpilot helped save me from a disaster from finding out about Relay and valuable info. about the bank my old one was being acquired by, who was nothing short of a disaster. Glad I made the move!

Very slow response time
***UPDATE - orignal review below, had given a 1* rating*** Coincidentally, just before this review was published, Dan reached out (I had sent the fourth email just before writing this as didn't know where to turn to and could see that people who had given similar reviews had received responses shortly after), and tried to fix my issue- After not being able to, set up a meeting with a more senior technician - Kevin, who had it sorted quickly. Although the response time was far too long, they were very genuine in their apologies and recognising their errors. I hope they will continue to do better. ORGINAL REVIEW I have been contacting them sincethe 23rd of February as I cannot access my account, the 6 digit code doesn't come through to my phone. I have emailed FOUR times, I have called and requested the callback option - nothing. I have waited on hold and after 10 minutes have been told to `call back another time` I have had to rely on colleagues to make payments and check payments which is not fair and is costing us time = money. Non-existant customer service

A good thing gone terrible wrong
They were great, but changed their underlying baking partner from Evolve to Thread. There are constant errors and I've had to spend hours on the phone because of their mistakes. Customer support is only really available by email and many support requests are never answered.

Daily check deposit maximum
You will have a maximum daily check deposit for the first few months-until you build deposit history with Relay. I signed up last month, already deposited a few checks, tried to deposit a check for 6k, was denied. I called to see what the problem was, I was told that I have restrictions for deposits for a vague amount of time, several months.. There was no way to connect me to the compliance team. I need to deposit this check, today. Will be going to another bank, be sure to ask about this when/if you sign up. Otherwise, customer service has been good.

Very good
Very pleased so far! My original attempt to get onboarded was denied for an unknown reason. A week later new support people reached out and got me up and running after a few id verifications. The interface is slick. My first ACH withdrawal cleared and were deposited in less than two hours from Relay to my bank. It took 4 hours to withdraw from my bank and reach Relay. This is a good 1-2 days faster than what I'm used to. Thread Bancorp, Relay's banking partner is located about an hour away from me. Hope I can rely on them for years to come as I grow my business.

I keep getting a 403 Error when trying…
I keep getting a 403 Error when trying to access my online banking from a desktop. The app works fine, but the app doesn't have many of the features I need to tweak. I can't access my online banking through my windows or Mac pc's and customer service is terrible. The features they offer are nice but this company really needs to work on their customer service speeds and competence. It makes it not worth it.

after sending them a picture of my ID, a selfie, my Social Security number, my birthdate, my employee identification number, they’ve been demanded three months of personal banking statements! lololol NO THANKS. So now they have all my sensitive data, then they decided they can’t open a simple business checking account without three months of personal bank statements. Never have ever happened at a bank. The act like you’re applying for a loan just to open a simple free business checking account. Be aware before you start. Sending your sensitive data out to random companies. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Everybody watch out please and read the reviews everywhere before you sign up with those scammers, I will be after you RELAY FINANCIAL till I get my $37,924 back, beware everyone, they don't reply phones and emails, they wait until you put large amount of money and out of a sudden they lock the account, delete it and close it with the bank and keep the money with them. Go to consumer rights and call their partner banks and they will prove they are not locking any money. Send my money back you unprofessional irresponsible organization.

Do not use Relay
They locked my account to investigated my account for "suspicious" behavior, I understand why, but during this time I was sent a couple ACH payments. They stated that these ACH payments were returned but when I contacted the company that sent me the ACH, they did not receive the returned ACH. DO NOT USE RELAY they will hold your funds hostage. I have contacted their customer service multiple times but they have left me unanswered.

Rough start but so far so good
At last Relay financial has granted me an account that I can work with. It was a little bit of a rough start but with a few polite back and forth emails and cooperation, I finally have an account and am very much looking forward to using all the great features Relay has to offer. Relay 2.0 looks like a great update as well! I can't wait to try it out!

The support team has been amazing
The support team has been amazing. Always very helpful and courteous. The only pitfall of having the account with Relay is the delay in getting your funds once they are deposited. I do contract labor and I am contracted by one of the biggest corporations in the world. My checks come weekly and are delayed 6-7 business days, which equates to 10 days before I can access my money.

Good for foreigner owned startups
Hello, i am here once again to share my experience. I thank Kevin so much for taking all the effort and going out of his way to make sure his team solves all the issues I had while trying to open an account with relay.Even though I faced a few bumps along the way, at the end it all worked out. Relay's team understood my situation because I couldn't come up with a utility bill to prove the address, instead they used the deed of my house that shows my address and ownership as proof of address. Relay understands that it is not one size fits all. The ability to be flexible without compromising is a plus. I would definitely recommend this to startups especially foreigner owned entities. I look forward to a long journey ahead with relay as my banking partner. I am starting to navigate the dashboard. I have already linked the account with my paypal. Thanks relay and most especially Kevin.

Relay is the perfect banking solution for startups and small businesses -- customer service that is personal and really works hard to fix issues (which are inevitable in all cases -- what matters is whether the company works to fix them and Relay does!). The app and website work well, and managing accounts, cards for employees, and doing cash management is super-easy, intuitive, and sensible. From One Star to Five Star
For a business who has vendors in other countries, Relay has been a lifesaver for organizing budgeted funds and partnering with transfer services like Wise to make it easy. After a near month delay in sending funds to another country, Relay offered a free year of Relay Pro and reimbursed the fees for the delayed transfer. Though the wait time was alarming, I was glad that a rare glitch in the system was discovered, is being fixed, and that customer service provided attentive care on the back end. What could've turned out as a one star review has turned into a five star review, and I'm ultimately satisfied with the ease that Relay has brought me as a business owner in sending funds internationally.

I've recently started a short term rental business. I started my bank account at the end of last year. I'm very new to this, but Relay is very easy to use. I've tried most of the services offered and I've had no issues at all. The inability to deposit cash is only an occasional and rather small inconvenience. They also lied to me that the ach is still pending after 5 days, while i confirmed with the external bank that funds are completely deposited into Relay. CARDS LOCKED OUT TOO. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO RUN A BUSINESS WHEN THEY LOCK YOUR ACCOUNT AND HAVE NO RESOLUTION FOR DAYS while they send messages to their "back office." Useless garbage. Phone lines take forever too. Do not recommend. THIS IS THEFT.

Easy to open accounts. Poor response from from customer service
We really like the ease of opening accounts, the easy creation of payees and the ease of creating virtual debit cards. This allows us to manage many separate aspects of our business as individual accounts. There have, however, been issues. One of the largest issues was that after depositing a check for over $10k, all of our accounts were literally frozen without explanation. After our vendors informed us that payments via automatic debit were being returned unpaid, I contacted relay. They confirmed our accounts were frozen (no deposits, withdrawals, payments or transfers were being honored). They told us that the check was in question and required a large amount of documentation to proceed with the deposit. Some of what was requested, didn't actually exist (e.g. a signed real estate contract). After supplying the documentation I could, they unfroze the accounts, but the whole matter took about 2 weeks and several payments to vendors had bounced. Relay has been very slow to respond to any issues that may have arizen. The last issue being a typo in the business name on the account. It has been 3 and a half days since I sent in a trouble ticket and I have heard nothing from them. Relay also does not offer overdraft protection. When we have multiple accounts open, it is incumbent upon us to make sure all the outstanding bills and payments in each account keep each one with a positive balance. In our prior bank we could use one master account to provide any overdraft protection for all the sub accounts. This is not possible with Relay. As such, if one of our tenants doesn't pay rent, and we don't cover it with a transfer, their gas payment might bounce.

Easy to set up multiple accounts, great service
I wanted to work with Relay for several months before leaving a review. I've been very happy with the service! It was incredibly easy to open the multiple accounts I needed with no fees to follow Profit First Accounting system. Along the way it has been even easier to add additional accounts for money I want to separate out. The few small questions or issues I ever have are quickly resolved by support.

(UPDATED!!) Non-cooperative
2/21/23 - Updated review: This part of my review still stands: "No nonsense banking. Pretty easy to setup, navigate, and use. Not too many bells and whistles -- but that's a good thing." Shortly after my review the Relay Team reached out to me via email and a personal phone call. They took the time to explain to me what had happened. They were very kind and patient and understanding of my predicament. The issue wasn't their fault per se. Without getting into too much detail, there was a protocol miscue that occurred between the software and their team. The software defaulted to something that the team wasnt seeing. It was the first time they had encountered something like this and to be fair, this was a one-time thing (the transition of everyone's accounts to new accounts). They assured me that they were going to take care of everything, and all will be well -- and they made good on that promise within 24 hours. They even followed up with me a few days later to make sure everything was good and it was/is. This is the type of legendary customer service from Relay that I was accustomed to. This whole experience reminded me that I needed to have a little more faith in them to take care of me. I am never leaving Relay -- they have my business for as long as they'll have me. ---------------------------------- My main beef is that I had been depositing checks and receiving ACH transfers to my account for over 1 year with payments made out to my DBA name. After 15 months, Relay, without warning, started blocking all my transfers and deposits. This is because my DBA is not on file. I went back and looked at all my information and it looks like all the requirements and documents i submitted when i opened my account has disappeared; must have happened when they forced everyone to transition to Relay 2.0. Now they are telling me i have to re-submit my DBA paperwork. I dont have that on hand and it will take me some time to re-acquire. Now I cant deposit any money and the disruption of cash flow is severely impacting my business. Relay is taking no responsibility in this and offering zero resolution. They just keep repeating the same line: please submit your DBA paperwork or have checks re-issued with your LLC name or in your name. This is a non-starter in my business. I pointed out that my email address is from my dba name, my username is my dba domain name, my actual domain name containing my dba name is listed on the account. The addresses are the same. They have ignored these points entirely. I loved Relay -- really did. I recommended them to a lot of my friends who have their own businesses. But this issue has pushed me over the edge. They allowed this to happen for over 15 months then randomly stopped allowing it. No warning, no opportunity to correct. A business relationship and transactions have already been established over the course of 15 months. Dont expect Relay to take care of you as a client. There is no personal touch banking that you would receive from a local bank or even your local branch of a big name bank. Severely disappointed.

A decent experience opening the account. But the customer service really needs work. Nothing frustrates a customer more than lack of feedback from a company when you send Support tickets At the moment I feel nervous about putting money into this account. Or getting my customers to pay me into the account simply because I've sent 2 important support tickets in the last few weeks and not a single reply. A 24 hour turnaround on support tickets should be a given with a business like this that handles your money They really need to improve
