Overview
Between vaccines, long-term illnesses, and checkups, pet care can get expensive fast. Many pet owners pay these expenses out of pocket or take out coverage plans with traditional pet insurance providers. But Eusoh offers an alternative to these routes.
Eusoh is a community of pet owners who come together to share costs. Thanks to this unique setup, Eusoh users don’t have to pay a monthly premium. Instead, when you sign up, you’ll need to make a $48 deposit which will be put toward the expenses of other members in your cost-sharing group.
What's Covered?
Eusoh works through a system of cost-sharing groups.
In general, costs that fall into the following categories are covered by Eusoh’s cost-sharing system:
- Yearly check-ups
- Illness
- Injury
- Cancers
- Inherited/Hereditary conditions
- Surgery
- Congenital conditions
- Alternative treatments
- Prescription meds
Plans & Pricing
Because Eusoh is a cost-sharing platform rather than a traditional pet insurance provider, there are no set plans or subscriptions.
Instead, commit to paying up to $65 a month when they initially join - this price is uniform across the system and does not increase based on a specific age or breed. Whenever a member of the group incurs an expense, the collective deposits are used to cover a portion of these costs and, when funds are depleted, members will be required to top-off their deposit up to a maximum of $48 each month.
Your effective monthly fee will, therefore, vary based on the expenses of your fellow group members. So though you commit to $65 a month, Eusoh states that members pay $38 per month on average for wellness, medical, and accident coverage. The difference is saving you get to keep.
What's Not Covered
The following services can’t be reimbursed by Eusoh:
- Food costs
- Breed-specific costs
- Routine medications such as flea and ticks
- Spaying
- Neutering
- Dental cleans
- Declawing
- Tail docking
- Ear cropping
- Medicated baths
- Grooming
- Non-prescription supplements
- Nail trimming
Waiting Periods
After you’ve paid your deposit, you’ll have to wait a month before making an expenses claim.
Coverage Limits
In any given year, for a single pet, the most that you can be reimbursed by Eusoh is $8,500.
Reimbursement and Deductibles
Every year, Eusoh members are asked to pay $250 as an initial-out-of-pocket (OOP) expense toward any costs their pet incurs. Just like a deductible, this is the amount that has to be paid before your reimbursements can begin. Once your coverage is activated, other members of your group will begin covering your expenses, though you will still pay a membership share of 20%.
For example, let’s say your dog requires a $550 operation for a broken limb. After your initial OOP cost and member share of 20%, the Eusoh community will reimburse you $300. The following month, if your dog develops an infection incurring expenses of $200, your reimbursement will be $160 as you’ve already paid your initial out-of-pocket for the year.
Claims and Service
Making a claim through Eusoh is pleasingly simple. Simply pay your expense upfront and then upload a copy of your invoice and receipt to your Eusoh account dashboard. After you’ve done this, your claim will be verified and you’ll be able to withdraw your reimbursement at the end of the month to a debit card or bank account.
In case you encounter a problem when submitting a claim, Eusoh customer service agents are available, during standard PST working hours, via a web email form or over the phone.
What You Might Like
Eusoh will cover a major portion of your pet medical, wellness, illness and accident expenses at a fraction of the cost of traditional pet insurance providers.
What Eusoh Could do Better
Eusoh is a new model of coverage. Because of that, there is a little bit of learning how it works. But for those willing to understand how it works, they have saved their members considerable amounts of money.
