What Does it Cover

A basic Lemonade policy will cover these costs:

  • Diagnostics: Blood tests, urinalysis, x-rays, MRIs, lab work, CT scans, and ultrasounds
  • Procedures: Outpatient, specialty and emergency care, hospitalization, and surgery
  • Medication: Injections and prescription meds

You can also add on Lemonade’s Preventative and Wellness plan for an additional monthly cost. This add-on plan covers:

  • Annual physical
  • Annual heartworm and parasite test
  • Annual blood work
  • Up to 3 vaccines
  • Live chat with pet medical experts

Additionally, Lemonade’s Extended Accident and Illness package will cover fees associated with vet visits and physical therapy treatments, such as chiropractic care, for an additional cost. Pet owners can choose both add-on insurances or select which one they prefer. And a Lemonade policy with both add-ons still ends up cheaper than many competitors' basic policy.

Insurance Plans & Pricing 

Pricing varies on location, pet, and deductible amount. Pet owners can opt for 70%, 80%, or 90% coverage with an annual deductible of $100, $200, or $500, and an annual limit anywhere from $5,000-$100,000. Choosing different coverage options will change your monthly price, but it’s entirely customizable. Here are a few examples of coverage costs:

  • Four-year-old dachshund from Los Angeles, Calif. cost $32.67 per month with 80% coverage, $20,000 max coverage, and an annual deductible of $250.
  • One-year-old mixed breed cat from New York, New York costs $10 per month with 70% coverage, $20,000 max coverage, and a $500 deductible. 
  • Two-month-old medium mixed breed puppy from Raleigh, North Carolina, costs $24.33 per month for 90% coverage, $100,000 max coverage, and a $100 deductible.

What is Not Covered

Lemonade does not cover animals younger than two months.  Pre-existing conditions and illnesses and behavioral conditions are also not covered. Pet owners will not be covered in these events either:

  • Elective surgery
  • Spay/neuter
  • Behavioral treatments 
  • Dental care (unless dental care is required as the result of an accident)
  • Alternative and experimental treatments

Waiting Periods

Lemonade offers three different waiting periods once a policy’s start date is in place. 

  • 2 days for accidents
  • 14 days for illnesses
  • 6 months for cruciate ligament events

Coverage Limits

Pet owners can choose their coverage limits from $5,000 to $100,000. Usually, the difference in coverage limits only costs pet owners an extra dollar or two per month, so be sure to select different scenarios Lemonade’s automatic claims quote to find the right coverage and price for your pet. 

Reimbursement and deductibles

Lemonade allows pet parents to choose between a 70, 80, or 90% reimbursement rate and an annual deductible of $100 to $500. The deductible is what you must first pay for insurance coverage to kick in. 

For example, if you have an 80% reimbursement rate and $250 deductible for your two-month-old puppy and they swallow a toy, your vet might charge $5,000 to remove it. With Lemonade, you will pay $1,250, and insurance will cover $3,750. If another incident or vet visit happens within that year, you will not have to pay your deductible again. 

Claims and Service 

All Lemonade claims are made through their app. Once you sign-in to the app, just file a quick claim. Lemonade makes the claim process quick and simple, and many times claims are reimbursed the same day. Lemonade must connect with your bank account to send you your reimbursement. 

What You Might Like 

Pet owners will love that Lemonade has a minimal waiting period for accidents and illnesses. Coverage is also very affordable for most young pets. The fast claim filing process is easily done through the Lemonade app, so you can possibly get reimbursed even before you leave the vet’s office.

Horrible Company
Don’t throw away your money. The card I had on file for payment worth then couldn’t be charged on two occasions. They sent an email saying they were canceling my policy because of this and that it was a requirement under the law… bullish!t. There is no such law or regulation. They just got mad because I tried to file two claims but they found ways not to pay out. I filled a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they still failed to respond. Their rating will not be impacted. DO NOT PUT YOUR TRUST IN THIS COMPANY!

Assuré depuis quasiment 1 an, je viens d'avoir un dégât des eaux depuis l'étage supérieur. Lemonade ne s'occupe de rien car elle ne veut faire parti de la convention IRSI qui permet la discussion entre assureur et l'indemnisation plus rapide. Les murs, le plafond et le parquet était gondolé/décolé, j'attendais une prise d'action rapide de Lemonade mais ils se dédouanent en me signalant que tous ces éléments ne sont pas couverts par l'assurance car ne m'appartenant pas directement (je suis locataire). Lemonade n'indemnisera même pas la literie qui était trempé et sentait le moisi. Je déconseille très fortement cette compagnie d'assurance !! Ils feront tout pour ne pas vous indemniser !!

Overachieving service, easy, clear and problem solver
The response was amazing, really helpful from the beginning. After having a bad experience with a bike crash and the other party not cooperating Lemonade took over the payment of my bike repairs. I have Lemonade pet insurance for the last 3 years. So far I have made a few claims including 2 incidents that I had to take my dog to the emergency clinic and everything works great so far. There are deducible but nothing is hidden. The rate is reasonable, even lower than the perks offered by my company. App is super easy to use and reimbursement is fast! Highly recommended!

Extremely Disappointing Experience, Will Try Anything to Avoid Paying Claims
Our experience is that if you have larger claims, don't expect Lemonade to cover them - instead they'll find a way to weasel out of it. Our claims process with them was particularly disappointing for two reasons: First, the claim was for an illness (Giardia) that our dog had previously had before he was covered by the policy and for which he was completely cured. Their policy excludes cured conditions from their usual rule against covering pre-existing conditions. However, Lemonade found because he had had Giardia over the past year, they denied the claim. This was despite the fact that Giardia is like a human cold, with any infection being completely unrelated to a subsequent infection. Second, when you file a claim with Lemonade they "offer" you a call to discuss. When I took my claim reviewers (Johnny Ensell and Carie Chuma) up on their offer, they ignored my repeated attempts to discuss and rejected the claim without ever following-up. Lemonade styles itself as "an insurance company built for the 21st century". If by that they mean that they won't cover your claims, but they'll inform you of the rejection via app, then yes, they really are.

Robbed three weeks ago and the company is still 'investigating'. I sent them the police report last week., the week before that the detectives email address in charge of my case, because they need these in order to execute the claim and I find out yesterday that they haven't even bothered to reach out yet. I ask a question and I get half of it answered and always asked to reach out if I have any other questions. The follow up question is ignored - sometimes for three days. No one ever answers the phone that is an advocate. They're just f****** lazy. Lazy people who do not care in the slightest how much you need their help and as far as I'm concerned not replying to a customer is just outright wrong and incredibly rude. DO NOT USE these people for anything you actually might need replacing quickly.

Lemonade Pet Insurance So dissatisfied with their customer service, while everyone I spoke with told me the same thing actions were done differently. With conforme emails and phone calls the outcome was way different. I left Lemonade because, they talk over you and dismiss your concerns. Not a good experience, check other pet insurance, I now have a great one and everything has been cover for my 9 month puppy.

Warning: My Terrible Experience with an Incompetent Insurance Company
This has been the worst experience of my life! My Chanel bag was stolen from my apartment, and I requested coverage from the insurance company. However, it has been two months, and the company has been requesting excessive additional documentation. It seems like they are intentionally making the process impossible, so they do not have to reimburse me. I highly recommend avoiding this company if you want to avoid any additional headaches. Losing my Chanel bag has already been a significant loss for me, and it is disappointing that I have to spend so much energy on this unproductive process. If you are considering purchasing insurance from this company, please keep in mind that they are incompetent and useless.

So far, so good!
I have used different pet insurance companies for my last 4 dogs and Lemonade has the easiest claims process through their app and I received the reimbursement in one day directly deposited into my checking account. Coverage was better and premiums were lower than other companies I was considering. I know all insurance companies will eventually raise their premiums so only time will tell with Lemonade, but so far I am very pleased.

I purchased a home in March of 2022 in lieu of renting the apartment and cancelled my service w/ you guys, 6 months later I saw you were still billing me so I called and cancelled again. These folks are terrible
These folks are terrible. We had a fire about a month ago and we still can’t receive any information. They keep sending us in circles and trying to make it seem like they’re doing something when nothing is actually happening. We’re suffering and this is unacceptable. Please save yourself the hassle and don’t choose them for your insurance.

Lemonade renters insurance misrepresents its policy
Lemonade renters insurance is a scam. It claims to cover water damage in your policy when you sign up then switches up the language to say the water has to enter a unit in a very specific way. They tell you when you are covered when you sign up and even using the language in their advertising. It is a complete misrepresentation of the policy. If you ever do need a claim, they will go leaps and bounds to avoid helping the customers

Reporting claims is very fast and Easy
When I signed up for this insurance I really liked how the app is very well structured and provides you the opportunity to create your own package according to your needs, all done via de app. My bike was stolen and the process to report a claim is very seamless and easy to follow on the app, I really liked it! I reported on saturday and on monday I got my first contact from a team member asking for some extra requisites, after providing those it only took 1 more day to approve my claim. I’m very happy with the service and with the App because is very easy to use and the best of all is that I don’t have to make a call and wait for hours to report a claim nor going to a physical office!

On April 2023 Lemonade Ins sent out a fishing questionnaire concerning HomeOnwers Policies in California. Buyers beware they are looking to cancel your policy! Because I have an old cement sink not hooked up to the house but in the garage with cast iron pipes my policy was cancelled. I tried to reason with the company however they are looking for any reason to cancel you!

Lemonade definitely used misleading…
Lemonade definitely used misleading statements in its marketing material as to the types of renters insurance and example incidents it would cover that granted protection to its policy holders. It turns out that they in fact do not and has surreptitiously cloaked itself in seemingly on the surface providing coverage for a “loss of use” while attempting to bury its meaning after making clear statements in its policy that it would cover such incidents. In my particular case, the adjuster came off with a complete disregard for us as a customer and grossly lacked empathy, and acted more predatory than someone who works in an industry that is supposed to be about customer protection and a safety net incase of unforeseen events. Our property lost its ability to heat our apartment and has refused to offer any type of assistance in remediation of the situation. Under our local law it is deemed unlivable and even with electric heaters are unable to keep the temperature above 62-64 degrees. Our family has been sick as a result and our 12 year old has missed school. Everyone in the home has been suffering from headaches and other effects of living in the cold temperature. It also dawned on us that the electrical heaters they provided are not only ineffective but also build up carbon and other particulates that are dangerous to living conditions. By all definitions we are within our states legal definition of “unlivable”. Under our pretenses after reading lemonades policy we have not the slightest inclination that this was something they would not cover and are baffled by their response that caught us off guard. Our adjuster Karissa, not only never spoke to us over the phone about our situation, she came to a conclusion without any consideration that the claim was not covered and reminding us in the response that we could not take suit against lemonade. I find this to be quite disturbing that the focal point was not empathy but, don’t forget you cant sue us. A suit will be filed PLEASE READ THE COMPLAINTS ON THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU SITE. THEY HAVE AN EXTENSIVE HISTORY OF DENYING CLAIMS WITHOUT ANY INVESTIGATION EVEN THOUGH IT IS SOMETHING THAT IS SUPPOSE TO BE COVERED. PREDATORY COMPANY.

Résiliation non effectué auprès de mon ancien assureur
Édit : Je modifie puisque j’ai eu les documents des démarches effectuées par Lemonade, et cela serait la MACIFN qui serait en tort. J’augmenterai la note une fois l’affaire réglée, pour l’instant LRAR au service conso de la macif… Plutôt déçue, j’ai souscris y a plus d’un mois, et malgré ça, après appel à mon ancien assureur, ils n’auraient jamais effectué la demande de résiliation de mon ancien contrat. Je me retrouve à payer 2 contrats habitation auprès de 2 assureurs différents. J’ai essayé de les contacter, pour l’instant en vain. Je changerai ma note s’il y a un changement pour l’instant très déçue.

Poor customer service
Initially all went well until i asked if my wife was covered on contents insurance.Garry then told me it would cost an additional premium per month.I could see on the policy actually contents were insured for the entire household and also that i had 1 extra relative included anyway so i decided not to opt for his kind offer.After this i left a 1 star review which Garry took offence to and promptly informed me that gold jewelery is also not covered.I had asked for this to be covered as a high value extra.Complete waste of time and money, recommend you look elsewhere.I have never claimed on any insurance i have taken out and if they are like this with a new client good luck with a claim.

Horrible
Horrible. I purchased renters insurance from Lemonade in July 2022. I've never had a renters claim. In March 2023, I had to emergency evacuate my rental house in South Lake Tahoe due to flooding and mold from the weight of ice and snow on the roof. One of the "covered perils" is called "weight of ice and snow". However, Lemonade went out of their way to deny my claim and provide me with absolutely no help in this situation. Me and my puppy were left homeless and living out of hotels with no coverage or assistance. This is an absolutely disgusting company. 10/10 would NOT recommend.

Quite satisfied with my experiance so far. I started my insurance a year ago. Sadly, few days ago, my bike was stolen. I filed a claim and I received a follow up next day. They asked for some documents and photos. If feels like they want to make sure the theft is real and that the client is not trying anything shady. That is fair. After supplementing all the photos and documents, there was no fuzz. My claim was processed the next day.

Bait and Switch
We purchased Pet insurance from Lemonde about a year ago for my American Bulldog puppy. The cost of the insurance was around $30 and then a year later I got an email from the company that my policy is going up over 30% in cost!! I was trying to argue with the customer service agent and all I got was the typical BS about the cost of pet care going up. I never filed a claim with them before, and the cost of vet services didn't go up by 30%. This is a classic bait and switch by the insurance company.

Pas 2 weken een verzekering afgesloten bij Lemonade vanwege een eigen huis. Tijdens de verhuizing Helaas mijn monitor kapot gegaan en binnen een week afgehandeld en goedgekeurd. Top service!
