What Does it Cover

A basic Lemonade policy will cover these costs:

  • Diagnostics: Blood tests, urinalysis, x-rays, MRIs, lab work, CT scans, and ultrasounds
  • Procedures: Outpatient, specialty and emergency care, hospitalization, and surgery
  • Medication: Injections and prescription meds

You can also add on Lemonade’s Preventative and Wellness plan for an additional monthly cost. This add-on plan covers:

  • Annual physical
  • Annual heartworm and parasite test
  • Annual blood work
  • Up to 3 vaccines
  • Live chat with pet medical experts

Additionally, Lemonade’s Extended Accident and Illness package will cover fees associated with vet visits and physical therapy treatments, such as chiropractic care, for an additional cost. Pet owners can choose both add-on insurances or select which one they prefer. And a Lemonade policy with both add-ons still ends up cheaper than many competitors' basic policy.

Insurance Plans & Pricing 

Pricing varies on location, pet, and deductible amount. Pet owners can opt for 70%, 80%, or 90% coverage with an annual deductible of $100, $200, or $500, and an annual limit anywhere from $5,000-$100,000. Choosing different coverage options will change your monthly price, but it’s entirely customizable. Here are a few examples of coverage costs:

  • Four-year-old dachshund from Los Angeles, Calif. cost $32.67 per month with 80% coverage, $20,000 max coverage, and an annual deductible of $250.
  • One-year-old mixed breed cat from New York, New York costs $10 per month with 70% coverage, $20,000 max coverage, and a $500 deductible. 
  • Two-month-old medium mixed breed puppy from Raleigh, North Carolina, costs $24.33 per month for 90% coverage, $100,000 max coverage, and a $100 deductible.

What is Not Covered

Lemonade does not cover animals younger than two months.  Pre-existing conditions and illnesses and behavioral conditions are also not covered. Pet owners will not be covered in these events either:

  • Elective surgery
  • Spay/neuter
  • Behavioral treatments 
  • Dental care (unless dental care is required as the result of an accident)
  • Alternative and experimental treatments

Waiting Periods

Lemonade offers three different waiting periods once a policy’s start date is in place. 

  • 2 days for accidents
  • 14 days for illnesses
  • 6 months for cruciate ligament events

Coverage Limits

Pet owners can choose their coverage limits from $5,000 to $100,000. Usually, the difference in coverage limits only costs pet owners an extra dollar or two per month, so be sure to select different scenarios Lemonade’s automatic claims quote to find the right coverage and price for your pet. 

Reimbursement and deductibles

Lemonade allows pet parents to choose between a 70, 80, or 90% reimbursement rate and an annual deductible of $100 to $500. The deductible is what you must first pay for insurance coverage to kick in. 

For example, if you have an 80% reimbursement rate and $250 deductible for your two-month-old puppy and they swallow a toy, your vet might charge $5,000 to remove it. With Lemonade, you will pay $1,250, and insurance will cover $3,750. If another incident or vet visit happens within that year, you will not have to pay your deductible again.

All Lemonade claims are made through their app. Once you sign-in to the app, just file a quick claim. Lemonade makes the claim process quick and simple, and many times claims are reimbursed the same day. Lemonade must connect with your bank account to send you your reimbursement. 

What You Might Like

Terrible customer service if you need to make a claim
I have homeowner's insurance with Lemonade. The price was good and I love the idea of "giveback" if we're not making claims. We had to make a claim on some water damage in our basement and it's been a terrible experience, so I am shopping for new insurance now. The short version is that I've been passed to FOUR different people within Lemonade. They settled the claim pretty quickly, but they couldn't recommend any contractors so I went and found 5 myself. I obtained bids from all 5 and they were all 30-50% higher than the Lemonade adjustor had calculated (even when we considered recoverable depreciation). I provided the bids to Lemonade, they sat on them for weeks while I called and emailed to try and get some answers. They finally let me know they wouldn't meet any of the bids. I asked them to find me a contractor (licensed, bonded, and insured) who could do the work for the price Lemonade said such that I would only be out our deductible. They said someone would call me the next day. That was Monday, and now it's Friday after business hours -- no call, no email, NOTHING from Lemonade or their supposed contractor. So it's the middle of winter in Colorado and I have holes in my basement walls with no insulation; I have contractors who can do the work but I will be out thousands of dollars in addition to our deductible; and I can't even get Lemonade to return my calls or emails. I wish I could give them 0 stars. I don't recommend them AT ALL.

Absurd terms
I got Lemonade insurance the same day my puppy arrived to me from Europe. She was absolutely healthy but during the 14-days waiting period she got severe diarrhea, so we went to an ER and paid out of pocket. Now every time my dog has any gastrointestinal issues, Lemonade refuses to cover the treatment because they say call it a pre-existing condition! Lemonade doesn't even cover vet visits which I paid extra for. I asked them over email if diarrhea will be a pre-existing condition for the whole life of my dog and they've confirmed it, which is a true non-sense.

HORRIBLE
HORRIBLE. I feel scammed out of hundreds of dollars. I have an elderly cat, first I was informed they are not covering neoplasia due to his age and back in 2021 there was note in his records “possible neoplasia” when later he was diagnosed with UTI and didn’t show any symptoms. Fast forward to another claim 6months later, he had a UTI (after over a year) and they claim it is a pre-existing condition. After weeks of waiting a call back, I was informed that even if pet had a flu 5years ago, it is a pre-existing condition. There’s nothing like that specified in their policy nor advertised. This is ridiculous and feels like a big spam. If you have a pet that ever had a vet visit, please keep away from this company. Not that I waisted thousands of dollars at this point, but their customer service team is horrible at communication and is completely disrespectful. In general company has extremely shady practices.

My dog got attacked and had to be in the ICU for two nights. Lemonade was great and luckily I didn’t have to worry about the money as there was a lot more to worry about. They paid for the follow up X-ray with an immediate transfer to my bank. Claims process is easy and quick.

Lemonade Insurance Claims are a JOKE!
A pipe busted in my basement 12/31/2022. I immediately contacted my renter's insurance Lemonade around 11:30 am. I was advised to download the app. Once the app was downloaded I was prompted with several questions. I was also required to submit a video of the damages- the pipe that was leaking along with footage of items that were damaged with cost. All this was completed on 12/31/2022. I was then advised to contact the community manager and have the issue repaired. I received an email advising me to save all items for further investigation. After a week I had not heard anything else from Lemonade. Mildew had set in and items were becoming moldy and they smelt. I emailed Lemonade advising them along with more photos of the items dripping in water with mold/mildew. The repair was made immediately and was reported. Yet nothing from Lemonade. Finally, after 2-week and several emails, Molly contacted me. Only to tell me she did not get the photos. I sent photos again. It;s now been 3-weeks. I have not heard from anyone. Some of the items that were lost are used for my job and are expensive to replace. I've reached out several times but no one replies. I pay my premium in full one a year. I have not filed any claims and this is covered under my policy. It's unsettling that they feel as though they do not have to reach out in regard to questions. They advertise one thing but in reality, they are a nightmare to deal with. I want my claim settled immediately as I have completed everything that was required. Yet Lemonade has done nothing.

If you are a homeowner do not waste your time with Lemonade. This company is no more serious than their name. They asked pictures of the whole house, asked more questions and then decided not to insure my home because the water heater was 10 years old. My water heater is a Rheem Marathon with a plastic tank that has a lifetime warranty. It sits on a pan with a drain. You either are an insurance cie or you are not. They are a waste of time hiding behind a robot technology.

Above and beyond claims experience
I claimed for a stolen bicycle. The bicycle was second hand and I didn't have any proof of ownership (e.g. invoice with my name). I had a photo of me on the bike, a police report and an old bank statement that showed when I bought it. With only this, Lemonade happily and quickly paid me more than what I was expecting! Incredible service. Thank you, Lemonade!

Peace of mind, fast and supportive. We've had our dog insured with Lemonade since the beginning. The routine care coverage is comprehensive, although I did mess up getting his vaccines twice within the same coverage year, so something to keep an eye on. However dogs will always find a way to do something dumb, which is why insurance is a must have for your pet as a responsible owner. Our dog managed to have an allergic reaction to a bee he ate, and tore a nail off playing fetch. Both initial treatment and followups have been covered, and I've always been confident rushing to the vets that I don't have to worry about paperwork/networks. Their claim process is simple and fast through the app, and gives you a choice to submit invoices by line item, or just send it over and get their help breaking it down. I often have to rely on the latter as I try to decipher a vet bill. You can find cheaper insurance options, but I can promise your pet will find someway to make you pay way more anyway. Lemonade's terms definitely avoid that.

Initially I liked this company's pet…
Initially I liked this company's pet insurance but between them not 'fully' paying for things because of 'loopholes' and continued policy increases (2023 increased by 29% from 2022) it makes more sense to just put away money into a separate account. Submissions are all via the app which is okay, however, the first time I needed to file a claim it took weeks to get reimbursed. They then try to make you jump through hoops to get a copy of the Vet 'notes' from the chart but I always not tell them that 'they can call and get it themselves'. They don't cover the initial pet exam fee which is similar to you paying your 'copayment' if you go to a doctor, however, what they fail to tell you is that vets all charge this different and/or can combine charges so while it 'may' partially be an exam fee it often times can be a fee that is both an exam fee but something is also performed. For example, they did not reimburse when I brought my dog BACK to the vet to get stitches out simply because the vet does charge a 'Office Visit - level 2' but it includes the cost of removing sutures which is a line item below it, but it says the cost is 'included' in the office visit charge. So they refuse to even consider the fact that the office visit was to remove sutures and not for an exam. So you end up getting NOTHING back! I can give many examples like this, they simply look for loopholes to NOT give you money back and their customer service is all online which means no one is really answering your complaints. I would switch companies but unfortunately I have this policy for 2 dogs and both have had 'some' claims in 2022 so anything related in the future would be declined be a different company. If I had to do pet insurance ALL over again, I would simply put away $100/pet into a savings account per month and you'd by far be better of doing that than dealing with this awful pet insurance companies.

Ik was net een week klant bij Lemonade, toen toevallig net mijn keuken ineens een lekkage vertoonde, kon ik gelukkig bij Lemonade terecht. Want alles maar dan ook echt alles werd goed gecommuniceerd en duidelijk uitgelegd, ook hebben ze voor mij wat meer geduld gezien mijn Autisme en als nodig was voor meer uitleg dan deden ze dat ook nog eens! I once raved about this company but not after 12/26/22. I've been staying in a damaged apartment with no water, no place to go stay in and no call back from ANYONE to resolve or discuss my claim. Unless you count the automatic email telling me that the claims rep will get back with me after the holidays? Well it is after the holidays but I have yet to hear anything from him. It is now 12/29 and each day gets worse. Don't get with this company. A horrible situation I'm in.

POLICY LIES
As I read in another review before, if your pet had diarrhea before they will never cover anything to do with diarrhea for its entire life. My pet had seizures before and had treatment for liver, and after 12 months of symptom free she had it again, but this time the vet has confirmed it is not a liver problem and still unknown. I wanted to get insured for the visit by the policy that says 12 month of no symptom or treatment an illness can be considered cured, but in reality it is not like that, my claim got denied anyway saying that this is pre-existing and they are not reconsidering it. This means my pet will never be considered covered for seizures of any reason even if 5 years passes.

Lemonade has been a lifesaver since getting my shih tzu. Claims are easy to make and you usually have an answer right away or within the week. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have Lemonade. It’s great having peace of mind to know that I have someone to help when medical expenses arise.

Unfair policy
Their policy is written to ensure there is no possibility of getting any portion of your expense as a payout in the claim. I have been paying the monthly premium for almost 1.5 years. So far, after going through all their steps, they come back with a rejection, saying if the illness (ear infection) happens again in 6 months, it's a pre-existing condition. This is not even from switching insurance; it is within their coverage. I am staying away.

These guys do everything online including suck. This service requires you to do a court style deposition for a puppy accident claim. Dumb, and dumber, cold and uninviting when it comes to insurance. I like Spot, Spot actually paid half my spay for 2 dogs and all you do is send in your invoice. I ended my account with lemons.

Suite à un bris de vitre chez moi j’ai ouvert un dossier sinistre. Vous devez d’abord prouvez que le dégât n’était pas présent avant de l’avoir déclaré. Je vous conseille donc de faire une photo de vos vitrages, murs, plafond, mobilier et autres avec date car en cas de sinistre vous devez prouver que ce n’était pas ainsi avant. Ensuite si le dossier est validé c’est à vous de trouver un vitrier et d’effectuer les devis. Un devis n’a pas été accepté at trop cher mais il ne vous conseil pas d’artisans. Mon second devis moins cher a été accepté. Les fonds arrivent rapidement sur le compte en banque mais c’est à vous de vous coordonner avec l’artisan. Dossier traité en 1 mois et demi. Bref un assurance bas coût oui si vous acceptez de faire une partie du travail. Et surtout faite des photos avant dégât pour ne pas vous faire gentiment traiter de mal honnête.

Late payment and no response
The response to the claim was super-fast; however I was informed by the agent that because the claim was approved late on a Friday afternoon the funds due would not reach my account until Monday. The money was only transferred on Tuesday after I had sent an email showing that the replacement item had now increased in cost on Monday night and I requested that the difference was also refunded - no response. I am now out of pocket and no response from your team following my last communication.

Worst company ever. I was claiming under no fault claim. They made mistake after mistake and my car was left with substandard repairs. It took them months to get back to me and the end result being my car wasn't fixed properly, then they closed the case. Terrible company.

Best Insurance Company On The Market
The affordability, strength and ease of use of Lemonade makes them hands down the best insurance company on the market. Once they have auto insurance in my market, I will be on board with that policy as well. My Home Owner's Insurance coupled with my Pet Insurance have been the best insurance policies I have ever purchased.

First insurance claim ever—so easy with Lemonade
After having my electric bike stolen, filing a claim with Lemonade with super easy. I had never filed an insurance claim before but the clear and friendly communication made the entire process a breeze. They asked me for some photos and documents and everything was done within 24h. I’m very happy with the service.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
I have her my dog enrolled in lemonade’s health insurance for a couple of months. I opted for every upgrade and yet lemonade still denies my claims saying that a recent uti and diarrhea are considered “pre-existing conditions.” I asked how this was possible and they explained that since she had diarrhea as a puppy in her health charts from the rescue she was adopted from that diarrhea is now a pre-existing condition. This is no joke…they also said they would never be able to cover a uti since she had one as a puppy as well. I have used nationwide for my other dogs for years and they have never denied a claim for diarrhea or a uti although I’m sure my other dogs have had those in their previous health records. Do not waste your time with this company! They use loop holes to keep from paying out on claims like this!! 0 out of 10.

Cancelation is super easy! I never I had to file a claim. However setting up lemonade was easy, I didn't get spam emails from them, and canceling was super easy! Really impressed by their customer service and ease of cancelation!

Still waiting on a claim…
I’ve had Lemonade for the last 9 months. Previously, they were fairly responsive for a claim. I’ve been waiting 6 weeks for 2 recent claims without feedback about timeline expectations, aside from that the wait times are long, currently. My claims are small, but this unknown wait timeline would feel very stressful with a larger claim. I will update my review based on whether I hear back and if my claim is resolved.

WORST pet insurance experience ever over the past 6 months, 2 dogs & 1 cat. They have flat fee reimbursement schedules country-wide that are ridiculously low, and then find every excuse not to pay claims. I dropped them - should've signed up for Nationwide, which sveral friends use and love their service.

I was transferred to Kansas City for a one year contract to work there. I regrettably contacted an agent from Lemonade and told her I needed a contract for a one year. So they prorated a monthly payment based on that one year. Then after the one year ran out, they kept charging me. And then they put this burden on me that I had to give them a new lease wherever I lived, and I had to give proof that I ordered it the way I ordered it originally. They came at me with the most egregious legal rebuttal and refused to refund money on a rental that no longer existed. how would you like someone taking money out of your bank account based on an apartment that you had long since moved from. and how would you like to use the most difficult robot system that took everything you said as another robotic response. And the whole time it has the picture of some woman on it like there’s a real human there. If you wonder why millennials are so detached from reality it’s because they have been drinking evil toxic brew like this a.i. lemonade. It’s companies like this that make you wonder why your grandpa and your uncles died in wars to protect this country. to protect this kind of scum.

Erg tevreden! Na inbraak en inbreuk in onze privacy hebben we een vervelende week toch met een positieve noot af kunnen sluiten. Don’t buy pet insurance from them
Don’t buy pet insurance through them. They will search for the flimsiest of excuses not to reimburse you. Also, you have to go through a chat bot for everything which ends up taking longer than just completing a form. Nice UI but borderline unethical when it comes to fulfilling a policy.

Lemonade takes the stress out of vet bills
Lemonade makes vet bills so less stressful and filing and claim is a such a breeze. Plus, they're will to work with you when other (covered) issues arise in a non-covered procedure (ex: hernia found during a spay). All and all totally worth the money and the peace of mind knowing that my dog will be covered when unforeseen medical issues happen.

J'ai choisi Lemonade parce que mon ancien assureur ne donnait plus satisfaction. Les tarifs étaient chers et les services s'étaient beaucoup dégradés. Assez désabusé, je me suis tourné vers Lemonade en me disant que les services offerts ne seraient peut-être pas fantastiques mais que le tarif était, au moins, bien plus intéressant. Après avoir dû actionner mon assurance à la suite d'un vol, tout a été traité sans mauvaise surprise, très facilement, avec une amabilité devenue rarissime et une rapidité remarquable. Alors que je sais être très exigeant, je suis particulièrement satisfait de Lemonade !

Intention delays to unearth reason to get out of paying claims
Our dog had seizures for the first time at 5 years old. Because this was our first claim, Lemonade requested medical records for the previous 12 months. Skip ahead one month from the initial claims submission and now their underwriter is asking for his neuter records from when he was 6 months old (4 1/2 years ago). The reviewer claims this is standard practice and written in the contract. The contract clearly states "nose to tail" medical records for previous 12 months. Requesting records for unrelated medical care well beyond the contracted review period service stinks of intential delays or intent to not pay. Multiple emails and multiple platitudes but we are still not reimbursed over a month after the claim.

Lemonade is worth it
Super fast and easy claim refund on vet bills using the lemonade app. Everything is user friendly and easy to submit. Funds were in my bank account within 24 hours after submitting the claim. The prices are competitive and they offer preventative packages. I ended up switching to lemonade after adopting another family member. The comparable insurance premium price for both cats with lemonade was the same price as 1 cat with another provider.

Support is non-responsive.
Been having a problem with their website for well over a year making it very difficult to manage my insurance or get information needed by apartment company, banks, etc. After multiple attempts over the last year, the farthest I've ever gotten is "I'll look into this further and get back to you" which they never have.

Worst company ever
Worst company ever. I canceled our policy by phone a year ago just to find out they not only did not cancel my policy for my dog but charged my credit card account twice every month. Hate this dishonest, fraudulent, thief company. Anyone ever tell you how difficult it is to prove something when the company refuses to acknowledge your emails and calls? DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.

THIS IS A SCAM
Just go with something else I insured my healthy 2 months old puppy and he got diarreah as every dog gets at some point and it is really common. They tried to find something for more than 1 month to close the claim. Eventually they said the "diarrhea" was a pre-existing condition for my pup. This was a $200 bill that was going towards my deductible. So based on their logic, anything is pre-existing condition and you should and could not trust lemonade for any bills. After this decision I immediately cancelled my insurance and reach out to them. I did not receive any call backs nor more discussion on their decision. So not only you cant trust them, they don't even care about you. THIS IS JUST A SCAM. go with something else.
