Issued by Capital Bank, the OpenSky® Secured Visa® Credit Card is a secured credit card designed for people with low or no credit. Unlike most cards, OpenSky does not require you to complete a credit check or to have a bank account. With an 87% approval rate, the OpenSky secured card allows nearly everyone the chance to build their credit score. 

You can fund your OpenSky secured card with a minimum of $200 and up to $3,000. OpenSky allows you to choose a payment date that works best for you. Manage your card from the OpenSky mobile app and watch as your credit score goes up with each on-time payment. Best of all, you can graduate to an unsecured credit card after six months of on-time payments without the need to complete a credit check or jump through any hoops to qualify.

With the OpenSky® Secured Visa® Credit Card, you can build your credit score even if you have no or low credit. The card does not have a credit score requirement and it charges an affordable annual fee of $35. 

Additionally, the card gives you the option of graduating to an unsecured card after six months of on-time payments without having to meet any additional eligibility requirements. If you want an unsecured card but don’t currently qualify, then OpenSky’s secured card may be right for you. 

Interest Rates and Fees

The OpenSky® Secured Visa® Credit Card charges a $35 annual fee. It also charges a 3% foreign transaction fee and either a $6 or 5% fee on cash advances, whichever is greater. Meanwhile, late and returned payments are subject to fees of up to $38 or $25, respectively. OpenSky charges a variable interest rate starting at 21.89% (variable) APR.

Rewards & Cashback

The OpenSky secured credit card does not offer any rewards or cash back on purchases. In addition, your security deposit does not earn interest. 

The Application Process

To apply, simply visit OpenSky’s website and click the “Get Started” button. You will need to provide OpenSky with your personal and financial information, including your name, email, phone number, yearly income, address, birth date, and social security number. 

OpenSky doesn’t run a credit check to determine if you qualify, so there’s no risk in applying. Be advised, you may be asked to provide a copy of a driver’s license or other identifying document prior to approval.

The average application takes between 24 to 48 hours to process. You’ll receive an email once your application is approved letting you know how to fund your card. If you don’t have a bank account, you can fund your card’s security deposit via a Western Union money transfer, check in the mail, or money order. 

Upon receiving and processing your security deposit, OpenSky will mail you your card. You can expect to receive your card around 12 to 14 business days after OpenSky processes your security deposit.

If you lose your card or your card gets stolen, OpenSky advises you to call its customer service team. When will I get my security deposit back?

Your security deposit will be returned once you close your account and pay off any due balance in full. Note that OpenSky may use your security deposit to pay off any outstanding balance on your account. In certain situations, it can take up to eight weeks to receive your security deposit, although the average delivery time is less than four weeks. 

Can I get the OpenSky credit card without a checking account?

You don’t need a checking account to open an OpenSky credit card. When you sign up for the card, simply indicate “No” under the “I’m ready to fund my card today” option. Upon approval, you can send your security deposit via Western Union or money order. 

How long does it take to receive my card in the mail?

You will receive a notification via email when OpenSky approves your application. Once your security deposit is received and processed, you should receive your card in the mail in 12 to 14 business days. 

How can I request an increase to my credit limit?

You can request an increase to your credit limit after your first six months of on-time payments. From then on, you can request a credit limit increase every three months. To request an increase, simply log into your account and choose the “Request Credit Line Increase” option on the Account Services page. Upon approval, you’ll receive instructions on how to send additional funds to increase your credit limit.
