    Two Decades Strong

I have been a member of Capital One for close to 2 decades. I have personal as well as business accounts with them. Customer service is great. I even learned recently there's a Capital One Cafe near me which is great. I love that now I can deposit cash at CVS. I have recommended Capital One to my family members and they also love this bank.

Just got ripped off by Capital One

Just got ripped off by Capital One. First the hotel voucher i had was canceled by the hotel with out notice. Then when I called Capital One to help me get my 630 USD back they were no help at all just excuses. Just getting ripped off by hotels and credits during this Covid lock down and travel restrictions.

    Capital One is TRASH.

Capital One is TRASH. Called to request to have the membership fee waived as a courtesy and was denied although my account has been in good standing (never missed a payment, never late, never maxed out) for at least 6 YEARS. Would never do business with them.

And they offered me a Capital One…

And they offered me a Capital One Walmart card my credit score was up to part that I was able to get one with the $500 limit without having to pay a deposit or anything so I was appreciative for that however they stated that the car will be here on June 23rd I have not yet to receive that card then I also called in to find out where the card was they still could not tell me anything but they did tell me that I was transferred to the fraud department where I have to verify who I am by sending in my ID a copy of my social and a utility bill I'll spoke to a couple of supervisor and ask them why would I have to be put in the fraud department and I haven't even received the card yet and never even use the card then they told me that I had to sit on the phone and verify with them that the utility bill was really a real utility company so they needed to call to verify that I have never heard of such crockable in my life still have not received the card then they told me that when they do verify the information that it's going to take another 7 to 10 days for them to unlock the card when they originally told me that it would just take that moment a day this card is a crock of s*** I think I've been scammed still have not received the card yet they're still holding a copy of my identification a copy of my TECO electric bill and a copy of my social security number f*** Capital One they are a piece of s*** and I'm not using them ever in life

    Bank Leadership Counts for Me

In light of recent US Supreme Court rulings, you might want to look into the politics of Capital One. I will be moving all deposits to a bank that does not support regressive rights for women.

    Regrettably used a promotional 0% balance transfer…

Used a promotional 0% balance transfer on the card. I called multiple times as the balance wasn't going down for an explanation on how they applied the payments when the card was still being used. Each time I was told that anything the minimum payment would be applied to the lowest balance first which was the promotional balance. Finally asked to speak with a manager and found out with a month to go and half the balance outstanding that it is the opposite, which means that any new charges need to be paid in full before any payment goes to the promotional balance. The wording is so complex not even their own customer agents understood it. Result will be the entire interest payment dropping onto my card if I can't pay off the entire balance (which I can't) this month. I take responsibility for not asking for a manager sooner but in my opinion this doublespeak was designed to be as confusing as possible to get the most money from the customer.

No protection from credit card charges abuse

They don't protect you from companies that abuse your credit card and keep charging it for services they don't provide. Instead of protecting their customers they rather keep the commission from the companies.

    Terrible business account policies

Terrible business account policies I am currently abroad. Capital one canceled my business account and left me hanging. A check was on its way to be deposited into my account. When the money was in the account they did NOT transfer the money to my linked personal account, instead they were going to send a check with all my money across country to an unguarded mailbox. After begging and arguing with them they agreed to send it to a different address to a friend's mailbox. I am deeply disappointed and will never bank with them again. I was a customer for almost 10 years and they kicked me out without a warning. Being abroad this was terrible and I felt completely helpless. I have a new account with Bank of America now. They were extremely helpful over the phone and went out of their way to help me open an account despite being far away from home. Without the help of friends in the US I would have been completely lost though. Thank you for nothing, Capital One.

    Dreadful experience with a chargeback…

Dreadful experience with a chargeback situation. Their reverse transaction system is not fit for purpose and their support staff are next to awful. Took 5 months for them to agree a chargeback after they were supplied factual evidence with back up photographs. I had to send multiple emails and accelerate through their management to finally get a resolution. I’m now waiting for compensation for my time I spent on this, given it should have been resolved on receipt of my first formal evidence. I will pursue them every which way I can.

    Capital One is complete garbage

Capital One is complete and utter garbage. Opened up an account a week ago. First the 10K check I deposited was flagged and stopped adding to my account. I call CS and they told me that they have to verify the check first. Why in the f*** didn't you do that at first? This leads to my account being locked out online for a whole week up until today. After the check clearing, them reapproving my identity over and over I am done. Rude CS hanging up in my face and them not knowing why the f*** I am locked out. F Cap 1. Withdrew all my money and closed my account at a branch. Taking my money to a REAL financial institution.

Do not get a cash advance even if you…

Do not get a cash advance even if you plan to pay off next day. Why? Capital One does not update your balance on your credit card for 5 business days after withdrawal and therefore not only will you pay 4% penalty but you will pay incurred interest for 5 more days instead of 1 day because Capital One is holding or forcing a 5 day interest charge which is not explained on their privacy policy information. That is in my opinion a scam! If you pay over your minimum due on your statement the overage should apply to the highest interest charge on your balance. Are you getting the picture now? They update your online info and credit card immediately with your credit available after cash advance and also the cash advance charge is shown on line app but the balance is not adjusted to include the cash advance for 5 days so you are basically forced to wait for capital one to collect more incurred interest. No reason not to adjust the balance if they show the charge. But their legal terms are transaction pending? No, it’s not pending because you received your cash advance and your credit limit decreased. Still seeing the picture? This is a scam! Stealing from customers in my opinion! A cash advance is a benefit to members in emergency cases until you can make arrangements to move cash around to your checking from other sources such as 401k. I’m beginning to think there is no advantage to credit cards whatsoever. I will say that my cabelas club card allows a good credit line and cash advance amount compared to many credit cards but capital one has merged with cabelas and taking advantage of good customers. Fortunately I took the time to write a review for consumers to see the true picture so it doesn’t happen to them.

    Long time customer....leaving FAST!

I have been with Capital One only after they took over for Ing Direct way back many years ago. Ing was awesome with customer service. Not so much with Capital One. They are good at apologizing, but that's about it. I requested a cashier's check a year ago and had issues. I gave them one more chance this week and again, all I got were apologies. Definitely leaving now. STAY AWAY!

    They're frauds!

Two reasons I will avoid working with Capital One in the future. 1) I have an online savings account with them. Really good interest rate. However, I had a fraud situation come up, and I was at least hoping they would help me resolve it. They literally told me they couldn't help me with a FRAUD case, and that they had no other branches or numbers I could call. They did absolutely nothing with a straight face. 2) We got a Capital One Quicksilver card based on the promise that if we spent $500 in the first 3 months, they'd give us $200. Well, we did that, and they refused to honor it. Don't work with them. On the other hand, I've had very good luck with another company in that field, that starts with a D. No company is perfect, but they've been decent to me, at least.

if i could give 0 starts i would

if i could give 0 starts i would. horrible horrible horrible. i requested a new card over 3 weeks ago SPECIFICALLY for this week/weekend as I have wedding appointments and expenses. after 6 biz days-no card-i called and got "im sorry, idk what happened but it never mailed, no worries we will mail today"....6 biz days later-no card-i call again and get "wow idk what happened, i see you made the request 2x, but it never got in the mail, let me send it out today". 6 biz days later-no card- i call and get "im sorry but it just got mailed this morning". HOW?! i specifically needed this card for this week and now i wont have it until next week (allegedly). i have no faith i will ever receive this card. and even if i do, its TOO LATE. if you are looking for a credit card company to trust, RUN RUN RUN. do not use capital one unless you want a customer service nightmare. HOW HORRIBLE can you be to not put a card in the mailbox THREE DIFFERENT TIMES?! is it really that difficult of a job? and to top it off-nothing has been offered to me. nothing has been offered to me to keep me as a client or to keep me happy. no rewards/points/etc. all i keep getting is "oops sorry". keep your apologies because they do not help me or my wedding week at all. I HATE THIS COMPANY. and i will continue writing truthful reviews until i am given the proper attention and customer service.

Constant restricted account with no solutions

I received a pre-approved offer from capital one for a credit card (Quiksilver). After receiving the card, activating it, and using it the account was restricted. I called to see what had occurred and someone immediately unrestricted it. I used the card for a second transaction and the card was declined although there was over $14,000 of credit still on it. I called once more and the agent asked for a few documents to verify my address and said they would get back to me within 7-10 days. I submitted the documents immediately and 2 weeks later have still not heard back. Unfortunately, while looking for solutions online, I saw that there have been numerous reviews written about this issue with Capital one so I decided to write this review to warn others.

    Very disappointed!!!

Called customer service to complain that my debit card had been declined and did not know why. The representative told me that I entered the wrong expiration date and their reply was , you did not enter a expiration date when using your debit card, I replied you do not enter a expiration date to make a debit card transaction. He had no explanation to why it was declined. I called back because it happened again and spoke to a manager and was told that somehow my card had been deactivated because a new card had been activated. The previous rep. activated a new card that has yet been mailed to me because my current card do not expire until the end of July 2022. I was told there was nothing they could do to fix the problem..I won’t have access to a debit card until the end of the month., if then. I am very disappointed with the whole situation.

What a load of tosh, MIA was rude , belligerent and patronising to a point I asked for the complaints dept, she told me they were closed and hung up , refusing to give me a manager So I rang back ,got another specialist team member ,who said he could put in my complain no worries How shocking is it when you ring to just inform them of a issue to be badgered with personal questions which had no connection to what I wanted to say I guess I won't be calling again so will soon carry on regardless and PLAY the game Shocked no?

    Can’t give a zero star

Can’t give a zero star. Would if I could . Odd situation. Broke up with someone who took all my automatic payments off. I caught it a week later. Paid amount due. Called to explain situation. They waived the late fees, but still demanded almost double the normal payment for the next bill. I’ve done this with several other accounts with the same issue. Only capital one gave me grief. Wasted 45 minutes of my time talking to a supervisor who thinks he owns the company. Apparently, the customer supervisors have nobody they have to answer to. Bad job all around for capital one. Inmates are running the asylum here.FYI, I have 4 accounts with these ninnies. Guess how many I’ll have next month?

I had my cards cancelled because of fraud. I am out of country and cannot send in emails for support or anything. I have had to rack up roaming bills just calling Capital One to find out if my replacement card has been sent to no avail. The last agent I spoke with 4 days ago was so rude. Agents used to be helpful, those not helpful were never rude, but this was a new one for me; she was rude and kept me on the phone without letting me know whether I was to hold on or not. I just sat on the phone whiles roaming charges were piling up with no one to speak with until I cut the phone 10 mins later, she just did not care I am wondering why she took the job? this job is customer service not a haughty service and expectation to be paid regardless.

These people are ridiculous. They set up 2 factor id on my credit card account without my permission with an incorrect phone number. I can't get into the online services to correct this error, make a payment, view account balance, or anything. Then they tell me I can't get it corrected for 7-10 days, and, they shut my card off for suspected fraud, which is fine, just send a new card, but when I verify my identity there is no reason not to correct my account so I can check for unauthorized purchases and make my payments IMMEDIATELY!

Cap1 decided they no longer want to manage IRA accounts, so I made the arrangements to have mine transferred to my regular bank. I just got a letter from Cap 1 that simply states my account has been closed and if I have any questions, call them. Lots of helpful info...right?? So I called to find out when my funds were sent out and how. Turns out the cheap greedy morons sent it SNAIL MAIL!!! 7 to 10 biz days to reach my bank!! NO TRACKING INFO! Given how messed up USPS service is, there is no telling where it is, when or even IF it will arrive! Too cheap to Fedx it or even send it Priority. Defrauded by Capital One

I'm a victim of bank fraud - not someone stealing my ID and using my accounts but rather by the bank itself. Briefly, I opened a credit card account, earned $220 in rewards and then Capital One, for reasons never explained to me, put a restriction on the account. In an attempt to work with them to verify my identity, I submitted any number of private documents including drivers license, social security card and proof of residency. Over a period of two months, they called every two weeks to say that my proof of residency was insufficient - my submissions included a property tax bill for my residency in my name, a bank statement in my name and a utility bill from Waste Management in my name. Each time, they said these did not meet their requirements. After two months and three separate submissions, I said enough is enough and asked that they remit to me the $220 in rewards that I had earned and then close the account. I was told that while it was restricted, they could not release the money I had earned through legitimate use of the card and so have refused to provide me with funds that I earned under their program. I have never been treated this poorly by a bank in my life. They've never told me why the account was restricted (after approving it to begin with and giving me a high credit limit), just kept demanding documents that they were never satisfied with. I've written to the chairman, Mr. Fairchild, who did at least pass on my correspondence to someone in their fraud department but it was to no avail. So now I opened up an account with a promise of certain rewards if I complied with their usage requirements, which I did. And now they are not honoring their agreement and it's up to me to pursue legal action to get the monies due me. Perhaps a small claims court case, made public, will get their attention. Thanks for reading this review and if it keeps one more person from being defrauded, then it was worth writing.

STAY AWAY. No credit limit increase, poor customer service

I’ve been with them for 2 years now and my credit limit is still $300. My credit is score is above average (730) with a stable job and good salary. yet, ZERO offers for credit increase and couldn’t request one either from the app/website (i’ve been trying periodically for 2 years on the app) as this is the only to do it. Can’t even reach customer service for basic inquiries. In comparison neo financial gave me $2500 on my first application and this was when my credit score was I think 70 points lower. Even Canadian Tire, which is not an established CC company gave me higher limit ($500) years ago when I was literally still a highschool student working a minimum wage job. I have two other credit cards with Desjardens ($1000) and TD ($3500). I am not in debt and never missed a payment. Ridiculous that I pay $80 annually on a $300 credit limit. If it wouldn’t hurt my credit score I would’ve cancelled it right away. Only use capital one if you have literally zero credit history. If you’re trying to increase credit score, have a healthy credit record. and have an overall good banking experience- STAY AWAY.

I call customer service more than three times, they claim to assist me but overall I still haven’t been assist because I haven’t received my new card. I’m tired of calling them and going in circles will be closing my account today. It’s sooooo sad because this is one of my first credit card ever. I should’ve read the reviews before applying but then I was young. Fix your service capital one, poooooor customer service.

    Avoid

Like many people i paid my monthly payments on time. But when the pandemic hit i started struggling so i got in touch with capital one and explained to them my situation i was put on a payment plan and now i look back and realise it was the worst thing to do because this company has no intention of helping customers at all they love to default people who are finding these times tough and make things even harder for them!. I was recently told i could go on something called breathing space which essentially gives customers a bit of time to get sorted out and then restart payments with them but what i wasn't told is that the payments i don't make while on breathing space will go down as missed payments even though it was capital one who put me on it!!!!!. This company are a joke and the most dishonest, uncaring, disgusting place to deal with if you're looking for a credit card i'm sure there are a lot of better places than this lot so avoid them like the plague because they're not interested in helping anyone who is struggling they just like the word default!!!!!

    Feeling grifted by Capital One

Feeling grifted by Capital One. I've had my Capital One credit card for 20+ years with no problems, but it's time to move my business elsewhere. Back in March, I used my credit card points to cover the entire cost of a two-night stay at a hotel. The hotel then erroniously charged me the full price for the room. While I tried to sort this out with the hotel, I opened a charge dispute claim with Capital One and provided all the necessary proof of what happened. Capital One also has the entire paper trail in their own system. Every time I call, I'm passed off to at least 5 different people in different departments, and in the end they have denied to provide any help at all recovering my money or points. They keep trying to close the case. I lost money AND a fairly large bank of credit card points by trusting Capital One. Never again.

I paid my credit card balance off on May 28th. The money has processed through the bank I used to pay it off and Capitol One has the money. They will not make any of the credit available until at least June 4th. There is no reason for that, it is not a "Pending" payment, it has processed and is a done deal. Why hold up my credit? I wanted to pay some monthly bills with it but now cant or risk being late on those bills. Ridiculous.

Capital One Not using correct information for resolution

On May20, 2022, I made a payment for my credit card but actually posted to my credit card. After catching the error, I called Capital One on the same day to correct the misapplied payment. I was assured by the representative that the payment would be moved to the correct credit card. On 05/24/2022, I called again because the account did not reflect the correct information. I was told it takes 7 - 10 business days so I waited until 05/30/2022. I spoke to very rude and unprofessional representative name Lakesia which is the same representative I spoke previously. She told I would receive a letter stating they could not move the payment because it would cause an adverse action on the credit card. I asked her what adverse action because credit card did not have a payment until June 2, 2022. Lakesia ma’am we will not move the April 29, 2022 payment and reiterated again it’s not the April 29, 2022 payment it is the May20, 2022 payment. Then she says well your billing cycle Is May 25 to keep from processing anything. I told her I’ve never had a late payment and this would cause a late payment added to my credit report. She says we did not cause your late payment it was you paying on the incorrect credit card. After trying to get her to understand that most of payments are always 2-4 days before my due date, she still could not understand how they made the error in looking at the incorrect payment. Capital One tried to process to move payment from April 29, 2022 instead of May 20,2022. The initial representative entered the correct information they did not process correctly. Lakesia continued with a demeaning and blaming the customer attitude and after 45 minutes of trying to get her understand she finally said she would submit the move again. I asked if this will take another 7-10 business days and she says Yes. I told her that’s not fair to the customer to cause more difficulty for the customer.

    Problems with Capital One Cards

I recently made Capital One my primary card issuer and it may have been a mistake. There have been technical issues they cannot solve. They have blocked my card excessively and asked me to jump through crazy hoops to prove my identity, using their faulty systems which have technical glitches. "Senior agents" try to help but have no flexibility to use their judgement or consider unusual circumstances. I have spent over one hour on the phone more than once getting passed from agent to agent, sometimes without resolution. Capital One credit card services have been a disappointment and inconvenience so far.

    Awful customer service help line

I have raised a dispute on a payment made on my card and am pursuing a refund via Capital One. So far they have been awful! They asked for the disputes form and supporting documentation to be sent via email. When I did this they requested it be posted and had to reach them in one week or they could not pursue my claim. I sent the information signed for and it was received the next day by capital one. Five days later I receive an email asking for the documentation to the sent. I rang the help line and the person I spoke to mumbled and struggled to communicate clearly and professionally in English. So far really poor.

    Chargebacks are Useless

Chargebacks are Useless If you have a Capital One card and make a chargeback, Capital One will do nothing, and then deny the chargeback on the grounds that you did not submit documentation (even though they never ask you for any). This will immediately close the chargeback. If you re-open the chargeback and send documentation, Capital One will not read what you've sent, and will just send you an illegible faxed copy of whatever the merchant has sent to Capital One, even if it has NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR DISPUTE. Essentially, Capital One does not care about you. They don't care about your dispute. THe entire process is a sham, just so they can pretend that they comply with Visa/Mastercard guidelines.

Their customer service is the worst

Their customer service is the worst. My boyfriend had a stroke and I helped him call 4 creditors who were more than compassionate and happy to help. With Capital one I had to ask for a supervisor who was rude and I had to beg n yell for help. So even though my boyfriend WANTED TO PAY THE ACCOUNT IN FULL and was only asking for 1 year of lowered payments and interest (like ALL THE OTHER CREDITORS GAVE HIM) they offered some of that BUT SET IT UP FOR HIM TO FAIL!! The agent kept threatening they would close his account and never reopen one! What a joke, considering I KNOW people who filed bankruptcy on them and were sent an offer like 6 months to a year later! I WILL NEVER GET A CREDIT CARD FROM THEM!!

Had the card for 10 years, no credit increase in 4 years, customer service was happy to close my account.

I've had my Capital One card for over ten years. And it's my second Capital One card total (had previously closed the other account). It's 2022, and I have not been approved for a credit line increase since 2018. My credit limit is $2250. EVERY OTHER CREDIT CARD I have has limits upwards of $14,000 to $30,000. I have never made a late payment, I have a 742 credit score, and I have requested a credit increase multiple times, only to be denied without reason. I also do not have a maxed out card, but wanted a credit increase in order to lower payments (my APR is 23.99% which is ASTRONOMICAL). When I called to consider closing my account, the foreign representative just said, "Okay," and didn't ask any more questions. I asked to speak with a supervisor, and she could not give me a reason why I haven't been approved for a credit increase in FOUR YEARS, after having the account for TEN YEARS, and never missing or being late on a payment, and also making payments above the minimum amount. I closed the card today, did my research, and applied for a new card with another card company I currently do business with (and like), and transferred the Capital One balance to that new card. Balance transfer, baby, and no interest for two years!!! Go **** yourself, Capital One. This is why no one likes you. I was a good client, and I will NEVER open another account with you.

Capitol One purposely sets accounts to fail to collect fees

Your better off opening a credit union account than use Capital one to build a great credit rating. The way Capital One sets their accounts up, they are made to fail and collect fees, while destroying ones credit rating. I opened a new credit account with Capital one, just to get a few more credit scores on my report. From the moment I was approved, to my first and only charge, discovered their system is set up so you fail, and can fall into a fee scam if your not careful. After my first charge posted in 3 days, went to pay entire card off. Guess what? Their system refused to let me pay them, saying I was too early. The time frame they showed me for when I could pay them, leaves only 3 days to due date. You can't pre date a payment, you have to log in and make it 3 days before it's due. Ripoff Reports had over 300 complaints of this tactic, just to collect fees. What has been reported by others who made their payments in that short window reported Capital one either locking, or refusing payment for verification that's already been done. I'm seeing this as well. They want fees, no matter if they hurt ones report. I have great credit rating, so this next item was no shock to me. They refused to open a checking or savings, once I told them I was only going to use it to keep extra funds to pay them on time. Guess holding my money isn't enough. They want those fees. I have many checking accounts with every other credit card company, yet no checks printed as I only use them to pay my cards. Capitol one is only bank that says no if you tell them it's to pay off their own cards. I'm reporting this to my local DA for further investigation.

Card kept getting declined, even with Zero balance.

I've had this card for a few years now, and the only time I can recall triggering a fraud alert, the app would ask me if I was trying to make a valid purchase and allow me to confirm it. I recently moved, but despite updating my address my card was still declined for a large purchase of new furniture. Text notification that I had to call, so I called to straighten it out, gave them all my information, and was told restrictions would be lifted within 5 to 10 minutes. About 30 minutes later I tried again - only to trigger another fraud alert. This time, however, I would need to send in a picture ID, front and back, and have someone review it. Their app would not take a clear photo of my ID; the box to frame it in required holding the phone far too close to the ID to get a clear image (yes, it's a recent phone - one of the top models from last year). Ultimately, days later, speaking with the fourth representative, I finally got an email link to send in pictures from; only it wouldn't accept my photos. Got the email links sent to a different email address, and then that works for some reason. Then was told I had to wait 7 to 10 business days for the photos to be reviewed (although it "could" be sooner). This is beyond ridiculous - what if I'm a starving college student buying this week's groceries? Luckily I have good credit, and other rewards cards I could use. After getting a call and being told the restrictions were lifted, the FIRST time I tried to use it again (for a less than $50 purchase!) it was denied and restrictions were back in place. Cancelled and good riddance. I appreciate the fraud protection, I really do, but that's beyond ridiculous, and if I can't use the card then it's no good to me. Just a really stupid way to lose a customer, CapOne, just dumb.

    Bye Capital One

Bye Capital One. I've had a credit card with Cap One for 15 years, always with same credit line of 25,000 plus, and monthly bills -- always paid on time, without interest charges -- generally in amounts of about $2,000. During the15 years, the card was compromised about once per year. Never any idea how, but just cost of doing business online, although 2 or 3 other cards rarely had any fraudulent charges, yet I mostly used Capital One card. For unknown (to me) reasons, a few months ago, my card was locked. It may have had to do with moving from FL to another state, with various address changes not perfectly coordinated, but I never received explanation from Cap. There is no place to send e-mails; only recommendation to phone, which results in hours of wasted time. It was just easier to pay my final bill, and close the account. I don't need the card, nor line of credit, nor am concerned about possible mark against my credit score. I would like to access the points accumulated, which I turn into Amazon credits, but even the $100 or so, is not worth the likely hours (days?) to remedy Unlikely anybody will deter using Cap based on my experience, and having a 15-year mostly satisfactory relationship is probably a plus, however, their policy of no e-mails is a big negative, as is their not supplying reasons for locking my card.

    No good at all

Almost a year ago, the security of my online savings account was compromised. On June 7, 2021, within a matter of minutes, a checking account was opened by unknown persons funded with money that was transferred from my savings account. Luckily, I noticed the breach before the fraudsters were able to Zelle the money out of the newly established account. A Capital One agent promptly closed the checking account and returned the money to my savings account. This is where the competence of Capital One ended. I reached out to Capital One numerous times within the months following this incident to ensure that my accounts were secure. I had just sold my house and had proceeds from the sale that I needed to deposit. I was assured that my accounts were secured. I deposited the money and proceeded to make deposits and transfer money in and out of this account for the next 11 months. Yesterday, I attempted to wire funds to a title company for a home purchase and guess what? It didn’t work. After spending roughly 3 hours with 4 different agents during 3 separate phone calls on 2 different days, I was informed that all of my accounts were restricted and Capital One would need 3-5 business days for “remediation” and to create new accounts prior to my funds being available to me. In short, a year after a fraud attempt, they had decided to protect my funds…from me! Capital One’s lack of diligence and failure to follow their own standard practices (which they sent me in an email today) put the purchase of my home at risk. Buyers are fighting tooth and nail for a limited number of homes and struggling to get bids accepted by sellers who have the pick of the litter. After 3 unsuccessful bids, I was under contract for a home and was ready to close. If the sellers decide not to accept an extension for closing, the contract will be null and void. Any money I put into the transaction will be lost and I will be left scrambling to find housing for my family with less than a month left on our lease. Capital One’s actions are no longer protecting me, they are hurting me. Hopefully, we will be able to complete my home purchase in the next week and I can move on from this completely avoidable situation. It goes without saying that I will never trust another dollar of my money to Capital One and will close all accounts with the institution as soon as I possibly can. What good is a bank that can’t provide security for your funds and make them available when you need them? No good at all.

    Capital one literally blows

Capital one literally blows. Considering it’s a travel card, it was incredibly frustrating to use abroad. If you change your phone number or lose your phone you are absolutely out of luck if you want to make payments (since phone number is the *only* way to verify identity). They also very sneakily counted a regular credit card purchase as a cash advance and wouldn’t allow me to pay it off directly. Shady ish and not worth it just to get the airline miles. Won’t use again.

Unhappy with Customer Service at Capitol One

I was emailed that my new Capitol One Credit Card balance was available to view, and that I needed to access the Capitol One Mobile App. in order to do so. I attempted to do just that, yet because my phone is not in my name, I wasn't able to get the app. (My wife purchased our phones as a bundle with Xfinity and she is paying for this service. When we got married she kept her name instead of taking mine because of our ages, so my phone doesn't reference my last name at all.) I called Capitol One with a request that I instead receive a balance statement through the mail, just like my bank always sends me every month, and the individual I spoke with told me that he needed to pass my phone call up to a manager to deal with my request. A woman came on the line and I repeated what the problem was, and that I would like to have my statement sent to me via mail. She was not helpful at all, not to mention that both the man and the woman were very hard to understand because of their accents. I got frustrated with what I was hearing, and frankly told her that if this was such a problem for them that I had no problem closing my account with Capitol One, even though I only used my new card one time, spending $1844 plus change...and already paid the entire amount. All I wanted was my statement to come to me via the mail. Something so simple. Because being almost 70 years old, it is what I am used to. Computers and these new fangled phones confuse me. I did like the convenance of having the card, and wouldn't mind having another, as long as I could get my statements through the mail. I think Capitol One is onto a good thing for it's customers, but I find customer service is lacking in that the individuals I had to deal with were hard to understand, plus I was not able to get something so simple as a statement by mail accomplished. So I told her to cancel my card. She did. This occurred on May 14th, just two days ago. I will get another card, but I will make sure that any company I deal with will grant me the opportunity to receive my statements via my mail box. David M. Todd Soquel, California

I made their estate dept aware of her passing. Both cards where deactivated ( understandably ) Here's why I find them to be a corrupt, greedy organization. They refused to transfer over 1.2 million airmiles and declined my application for a new replacement card. I believed my application was refused to fortify their attempt to not transfer airmiles. I've spoken to four different reps 1 dept manager on five different occasions now and just being stone walled. It seems corporate greed runs rampant in this soulless company. I for one will not except this ESPECIALLY when they advertise airmiles ARE transferable. I now will be doing what ever is needed to take any and all legal action I can against this corrupt company. They retaliated against me for filing a complaint

This week I received an email that they had "observed activity that is inconsistent with our terms and conditions. When opening your account(s), you agreed to the terms and conditions that state we may close your accounts at any time and for any reason. We’re unable to reopen any accounts and you won’t be able to open any additional accounts with us." My wife received a similar email but it said, "You can open a new account in your name but [my name] won’t be able to open any additional accounts with us." I did nothing to cause this. The only thing I can think is that they retaliated after I had fought a disputed transaction denial and filed a complaint with the CFPB. Any time I called I was forced to leave a message. Of course no one called me back. They had no intention of doing that. Only when I called and ignored the prompt to enter my information did I get to someone. They claimed they had determined I was a risk to the bank and refused to tell me why for "security reasons." Their card investigation department has been extremely difficult. They would claim to send source documents for their denials and it would just be copies of my statements.

Capital One Bank Abysmal Customer Support

This has to be the most incompetent financial institution I have ever encountered. The customer support nightmare starts when something goes wrong. In spite of my account having been compromised through identity theft it was business as usual for Capital One. Hackers had set up automated funds transfers from one of my other banks linked to the Capital One account, had created new external banking links to transfer money out of the Capital One account, as well as opened a credit card account in my name. Capital One did put a "restriction" on my savings account and eventually created a second account to move the money to. However, Capital One said that they were unable to stop the fraudulent automated funds transfers! I had to initiate a stop payment order with my other bank to stop the transfers at that end. Moreover, Capital One said they could not remove the external banking link to my other bank since it was policy that an external bank was a requirement for the savings account. I told them to close my savings account so I could delete the link. They said it would take 3-6 business days. More than a week later the account was still open. After repeated calls one of the service reps said that the account being closed was in fact the initial account from which the funds had already been removed and not the one that Capital One had transferred funds to. This was in spite of conversations, each with a different person, to confirm that the new account with the money was being closed so that I could delete the external bank link. My saga with Capital One lasted over a month! in contrast my linked bank took about 20 minutes over the phone to close my linked account and reopen a new account. This narrative hardly begins to describe the customer support issues, the hours of hold on the phone, the repeated transfers to other departments, the differing and conflicting information from the many contacts, the slow plodding "business as usual" attitude of the customer support staff who seem to be hide bound by company policy and procedure. Capital One does not report individual account breaches to any authority and treats such intrusions as isolated internal events. Makes one wonder just how big this problem is and how much the the bank is covering up to hide account security issues to protect their image. If you are considering opening a Capital One account, think twice. If you already have one, my advice is to close it before you have a problem with it. Capital One has NO coordinated support for customers dealing with identity theft and account security. Each department is constrained by the system, necessitating the customer to deal separately with credit department, credit card fraud department, savings department, savings fraud department, online banking banking department and even the IT department. After more than a month dealing with the morass of contacts and telephone numbers, inflexibility and misinformation, I am finally free of the Capital One tar baby.

    Capital One are essentially thieves

Capital One are essentially thieves. I had a Cabela's Card from them that I inherited when Cabela's sold their business to Capital One. Over the years I have done less and less business on that card in an effort to carry less credit. Capital One decided to close my account to do in activity which is fine but, I has a $212 balance in rewards available on that account that I had never used. When I contacted Capital One they informed me that I just forfeited those points. So essentially I tipped them for them closing my account. In my eyes this should be considered theft. To Cabela's credit however, I will add that when I contacted Cabela's they immediately decided to rectify this and send me a gift card for these points. Capital One could learn something from them.

What's In Your Wallet? a PROBLEM

I am not sure why this bank cannot get its act together. In terms of Interest payments, they are the industry leader. However, in terms of basic electronic transactions THEY ARE IN THE STONE AGE ATM Cards ONLY access your Checking NOT Savings? EVERY OTHER BANK SHOWS YOU ALL ACCOUNTS Make a payment from your Cap1 Checking or Savings to your Cap1 Credit Card - it takes 24-48 hours for the funds to be available...? EVERY OTHER BANK UPDATES INSTANTANEOUSLY This Bank seems unable or unwilling to modernize their backend... When I called Customer Service, they are oblivious to the fact that ALL OTHER BANKS process things immediately; despite the fact that the transfer is pending and not complete. Including Cap1 when its NOT their bank that the payment is coming from...? Their suggestion was that I come take the cash out of one account, stand on line, and then make a payment to my other account so it will process the same day.? STONE AGE

    Capital one is horrible

Capital one is horrible. They are FDIC insured but do not follow EFTA regulations and will not protect your money from fraudulent transactions and will close your account when you file a complaint. They do this to avoid paying you back. Steer clear! You’ll be tied up in lawsuits against them for years trying to correct their mistakes and negligence!

    Capitol One's dispute dept

Capitol One's dispute dept. is a joke. I had recorded phone calls as proof of my attempts to resolve the issue with the merchant and they told me they could not use them. The last straw for me was when I spoke with a fraud and dispute manager who told me ( after I mentioned that I record all of my phone calls) that if I did not say aloud that I was no longer recording the call, they would disconnect me. This was even after I reminded them that Capitol One's gretting states that all calls are being recorded and monitored. I will never do business with them again.

    Oh my god!

Oh my god!! Where do I start? I completely agree with the other bad reviews people have put up. This morning has been abismale for my better half all he wanted was a authorisation code to complete his purchase for a contract phone, a contract phone he only needed to get so he could keep on top off things, capital one being one of them but because his phone broke he had no way to access the app and so called capital one. They were absolutely disgusting and this has not been the first time! They were ignorant, shouting over him repeating things like 'so you want me to send you out a pin reminder' or 'we can change your number for you so you can go on the app' one agent even hung up and my partner did not swear at all!! What the hell is wrong with these ignorant stuck up morons. They did NOTHING to help and he was on the phone to 4 different agents so now he is cancelling his card as its useless without the app, the app he cannot access. Capital one have previously helped with giving him a code so I know they can do it they were just being awkward.

I have been with Capital One/ING for quite a few years. As an online bank they have competitive interest rates on their accounts. The only thing now that they are doing which disappoints me, is they will soon no longer have IRA accounts so now I am going to have to find another bank to transfer my IRA account to. Other than that, I will still keep my checking and saving account with them.

    Bad Customer Service

I’ve had a capital one platinum card for at least 15 years and have never been late on a payment. In fact I never just make the minimum payment I’ve always paid the card off within one or two months. In April 2022, I made a $1,100.00 payment and planned to pay the balance in March. Unknown by me capital one never received the payment I mailed at the post office on April 12th, When I received my statement in March I was surprised to see the amount due and a $21.00 late fee. I called capital one to find out what was happening and found they had never received April’s payment. The rep was kind enough to remove the late charge after I explained what had happened. A couple of days later I used the card for a small purchase and it was declined. I called capital one again and was told my account was on hold until a payment was received I asked to speak with a supervisor and after a short time she answered. I again explained the circumstances and the supervisor said she couldn’t help me until a payment was made and added she could take the payment but would need to verify funds in my account first. I ask here if she reviewed my payment history and she said yes however she basically treated my like a dead beat and was extremely rude. I ended up hanging up on her. I’ve always liked capital one but now I plan on paying the balance due and cancelling the card and finding a bank who appreciates a good customer and that has Good customer service.

    The absolute worst

The absolute worst. I had an unauthorized charge of $ 6.99 and rather than put in a dispute, the rep cancelled my card and said he would send a new one with a new account number. Turns out that never happened as they refused to send me a new card despite having every bill paid in full since I became their customer because I use a landline not a cellphone and as such could not receive their text with an authorization code. So living a simple life without too many bells and whistles has now become a crime and for lack of a cellphone, I have lost my credit card. Terrible. I will be going back to the 70s and that means if I want something I will pay for it in cash and be done with these credit card companies who in the guise of ' protecting ' accounts really just play hard ball and stress out their customers. I had the account closed tonite as the so called manager was useless as well. BOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Unacceptable, Weird, Unprofessional, Unfair,

I received a cashier's check as a Christmas gift with no expiration date. I just deposited it after saving it for four months. I went to the bank, made the deposit, got my receipt. It said the money would be released little by little over the period of one week. Ok fine. Of course I know it has to be verified by the issuing bank. So why did I get an email the next morning from Capital One saying they froze my account and I need to call them right away. I call and instead of them verifying the check through the bank it came from, they forced me to give them the phone number of the person who gifted me the check. This was very strange and unusual and has never happened at any other bank where I've deposited cashier's checks before. The Capital One rep said she was searching his phone number to make sure the name matched the phone number. Then she said she needed to talk to him. This was extremely embarrassing to bother this person in the middle of a work meeting to verify that they gave me a check. YOU SHOULD HAVE CONTACTED THE BANK THE CASHIER'S CHECK CAME FROM. So which is it... Are cashier's checks verified through the issuing bank or through the person who gave me the check? This makes no sense, anyone could give someone a cashier's check and then die, or be unavailable, or in the hospital. And Capital One would refuse to contact the bank itself? So after being on hold for twenty minutes and all this trouble, I still have to wait a week to access my money. Why not let it be verified through the bank the standard way? Then she told me since it's four months old, they are doing this to me because I could've deposited it twice and NOT REMEMBERED!!! HOW? Mobile deposits can't be over $5000 and my check is for $9500. I took the check to the bank IN PERSON. JUST CALL THE ISSUING BANK LIKE A NORMAL THINKING FUNCTIONING PERSON. On top of all of this, my other money that was already in my account before I deposited this check, to pay my bills was frozen. After the call was over, I spoke with the person who gifted me the cashier's check. It is very obvious to both of us that THE REPRESENTATIVE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT A CASHIER'S CHECK EVEN IS OR HOW THEY WORK!!! I've had a Capital One credit card for almost a decade and I just opened a bank account with them a few months ago specifically and solely to deposit this cashier's check to pay off my Capital One credit card. I'm too afraid now to continue to deposit with them. It shouldn't be this much trouble, plus freezing my weekly paycheck along with my cashier's check. The time, the embarrassment, bothering an innocent person in the middle of their busy work day. He had to stop everything he was doing and excuse himself at from an important business meeting just to talk to the Capital One representative. She was so wrong with the way she handled this. I believe her name was something like Moneitha. The call was at 11:10 am. on May 5, 2022.

Do not be deceived by this fake credit card company. They pretend to treat you as a "Valued Customer". Nothing could be further from the truth. When the chips fall down, when there is fraud on your account or you are scammed they immediately take the other side. They do not support their customers nor do they care if you report how you were treated and if they loose your business. Do yourself a favor and do not sign this credit card company.

    Capital One platinum credit…

I applied for a secured platinum credit card and was approved. $200 limit. I used it $51 and paid the entire amount ON TIME. Two weeks later Experian notifies me my credit score DROPPED 61 points associated with Capital One and the next day TransUnion dropped 89 points. I owe less than $75 now. I can hardly wait to see how much the score drops next month when I again pay in full and on time. My plan is to pay the new balance and never use the card again. The secured amount will be accounted for in an audit at some point. It will have to go to the state of Texas. If I live long enough, I'll get my $200 back in 7 years. If I close the account, my score is lowered further. My other bank never heard of such and are at a complete loss for any advice about this. I am in full agreement with the other negative reviews!

I've never despised a company more than Capital One. I wish I could give them 0 stars because they do not deserve 1. I could write pages about how unhelpful their customer service is. While Capital One cash back and deals are great, but I rather get less cash back and stick with a company like Bank of America or Chase, who will actually resolve situations when you need them to. Capital One is an absolute joke of a company and laughable that they call themselves 'online banking' when you have to jump through hoops just to dispute a charge online versus by mail.

Capital One has decided to suck the worst.

Customer service has recently plummeted drastically! It's as if Capital One has recently been taken over by new management, the worst imaginable. For one thing, they're suddenly abandoning their IRA customers, in mid-CD! If customers can commit to keeping money in a CD for a given term, why can't Capital One Bank honor their commitment for the same term? Instead, they're dumping their customers over to Millennium Trust, whose website offers little, but they apparently charges fees. Secondly, my elderly disabled mother had a Capital One credit card for years, paid all her bills on time, paid her Capital One card bill in full on time every month, and had an excellent credit rating. Capital One only gave her a $500 credit limit. When she requested a measly $250 credit level increase, during a time of rampant inflation, the "Capital One Customer Care Team" (an ironic name for people who obviously don't care about their customers anymore) flatly denied her request. My mother then applied for a Bank of America credit card and they immediately approved her for a credit card with a starting limit of $1100. Plus the B.O.A. card pays cash back, whereas her Capital One card did not. So my mother and I will be using our Bank of America credit cards from now on instead of our inferior Capital One cards. And I've withdrawn all but one dollar of my money from my four Capital One Bank accounts because I don't trust my money with a financial institution that obviously doesn't give a damn about its customers anymore and shows extremely bad judgment in making business decisions. Also, Capital One makes it impossible for customers to email them, securely or otherwise, or reply to their emails, or online chat with a human being. They should just put up a big neon sign that says "We couldn't care less about our customers."

Ive had QuickSilver One and QuickSilver cards for almost three and half years now. The payments have been made always on time, never missed a payment. Sometime it is partially paid but most of the time i pay them off, no balance at all. Also have a checking/savings account with them which Im facing them out soon. In the past year I was interested on upgrading one of the cards to a travel card like the Venture card. Spoke to customer service many and many times to upgrade and never had the luck to an upgrade. No Offers at the moment but we will note it you're account and email to let you know. No increases and no upgrades. Im coming to an end with them which means i might close them and move on with Citi Bank instead. Very disappointed.

Tried to use the Capital One website for simple fund transfer

Tried to use the Capital One website for simple funds transfer and ended with long wait time over the phone and not accomplishing what I needed to do. The website required only a cellphone number for two-factor. No other options like validated email address or using Google or Microsoft Authenticator were available besides calling their customer service. Somehow none of the cellphone numbers I wanted to use worked. I called customer service and they confirmed had to wait 5-7 days and admittedly even the manager says it could take even a month to have my number validated. I just need a simple funds transfer.

    Bad business account opening experience

After being approved for a small business checking account, I spent at least two+ hours on the phone troubleshooting basic access/account linking problems on their site in an effort to get started and fund my account. Their customer service personnel were courteous but I got tired of having to wait for them to fix problems that shouldn't even be there in the first place. After being told it would take about two days to fix a certain issue, I said forget it and told them to close my now 5 day old account. I had a bad credit card experience with them about 20 years ago but was willing to give them another shot. Needless to say, they dropped the ball again and there won't be an opportunity for a third time. Go elsewhere for your personal and/or business needs.

    A "Customer Service" Nightmare!

I had both my Capital One cards compromised due to a computer hack and cancelled those accounts immediately. I requested new cards and that's where the nightmare began! I was put through a labyrinth like I've never seen before and because I'm evidently the only person in the world who doesn't own a cell phone, their "texting" me wasn't going to happen. They had every other bit of information: my home phone #, all my personal information, address, and email account and finally after being told I had to scan in my drivers license, which I did, they refused to accept it since it didn't include both sides which they never mentioned. After doing all that again, I was told my cards would be "expedited." That was three weeks ago and I called today and discovered that while they had issued new account #'s for both my cards, they never sent them to me and never will since I cancelled both today and will NEVER have any dealings with these folks again. Worst customer service ever! ADDENDUM: I wrote the above two weeks ago in haste and didn't fully describe the AWFUL experience I went through. Apart from forcing me to go to hell and back to authenticate my existence (even though they had my SSN# and everything else under the sun), the "replacement" cards that were supposed to have been "expedited" had a new # assigned to them that I was completely unaware of and couldn't even tell the numerous incompetent "customer service" drones I had the misfortune of dealing with (who invariably promised to direct me to another department and then the phone went dead). But what really galled me was the promise that they would help me recover some of the false charges that were credited to one of my cards ($700.00 worth) and they had a program in place for either full or partial recompense for "excellent customers" such as myself, who has NEVER been late with a payment in 20 years and typically paid off my balance every month. I received three letters from their "fraud" department, each one with the same date, and each one telling me something completely different: 1. the situation had been "resolved" and I was at fault and they would do nothing. 2. that they they were still processing the information. 3. that my account had been "expedited" and was being taken care of via their "fraud" department and I would be getting a call back in three days. HA! Lies, mendacity, prevarication, you name it--Capital One has no credibility whatsoever and that seemingly doesn't bother them at all. Formerly, I thought no company could be more evil than AT&T, but Capital One makes those guys seem like Cub Scouts. I sent a four page letter to their offices in Salt Lake City describing all that I had to endure in more detail than I've provided here and have yet to hear from them and doubt I ever will. In the meanwhile, I decided to get a single card from my credit union and will do my best to dissuade everyone I know from having anything to do with Capital One!
