Overview

The Aspiration Zero credit card was designed to help consumers cut their carbon footprint. With this card, every purchase you make results in a tree being planted to offset your carbon emissions. You can also round up your purchases to the nearest dollar to plant a second tree.

When you get to 60 trees planted in a month - which is either 60 transactions or 30 rounded-up transactions - you’ve gone carbon-neutral according to Aspiration’s calculations. As a reward, the company will give you 1% cash back on all your purchases for that month. You can track how many trees you’ve planted each month through the Aspiration mobile app.

Suitable for?

The Aspiration Zero credit card is most suitable for consumers who want to reduce their environmental impact. Planting a tree or two with every purchase helps to offset your carbon footprint. In addition, Aspiration’s mobile app scores merchants based on their social impact and eco-friendliness, so you can focus your spending at stores that match your values.

The downside to the Aspiration Zero card is that its rewards program doesn’t provide as much cash back as traditional cash back credit cards. You only receive 0.5% cash back on eligible purchases until at least 60 trees are planted within a month, and even then you’re limited to 1% back. Aspiration is now our new bank
We have now used Aspiration as our joint bank account for over two years now. We have found that we save roughly $400 a year from fees. It's easy to use app and online site make it easy for my wife to use as well.

Absolutely terrible. A creditor gave them a garnishment order - but my only income is SSDI and exempt. But they froze my account, took the money regardless.. then after filing with FINRA to get my money back they turned around and DID IT AGAIN and are currently still refusing to return federally protected funds..

The worst bank ever
The worst bank ever. Horrible customer service overseas. Archaic processes. I deposited a 15k check through online banking. Because it’s more than 5k, I had to mail the check in. Three weeks later the check has yet to be posted. I need that money for funeral expenses. Bridget, the incompetent manager in the USA, told me to ask the sender for a new check. And she would reimburse me 60 cents for postage. Suddenly thieving Wells Fargo seems like a better choice.

Company May Not Have Customer Service…
Company May Not Have Customer Service Reps, and that's the least of their problems. I have been trying to contact Aspiration Bank customer service, daily, for approximately a week. Each day, I will end up on hold for a minimum of 1hr, regardless of what options I try to select to speak with a rep. A good percentage of the time, the automated system itself will malfunction. Aspiration has been holding on to four payments I've made towards my credit card. The money has left my account, but has not been delivered to Amex. Several American Express representatives and I have been trying to speak to even one single human being working for Aspiration Bank, but it's been nothing but radio silence and hold music. They're just holding onto money which at this point, belongs to American Express, and are just playing around with it at their own leisure. In addition to this, I attempted to make one purchase recently, which did not go through as a result of "incorrect zip code," which was an inaccurate error, but I just paid via a different bank. Despite this, three pending charges have been on my account for over a week. Furthermore, a payment made to Venmo processed, and has since shown up simultaneously as having processed and also as being in process. Urgent and current matters aside, the "pay what's fair" feature is unpredictable. Some months, your "fair" bank fee will be $3, sometimes it'll be $10 or $20, but there will not be any warning nor notice prior. Sometimes it'll be one fee monthly, other times it could be three. It's all just a fun surprise to see what this bank is going to do with your money. The different business "rankings" are seemingly arbitrary, CVS has an excellent ranking with Aspiration, both environmentally and in regards to how they treat employees, which is pathetically laughable. This bank is a failure, and it would not be surprising at all if it properly did fail within the next 4-6 months.

Don't get money overseas
I was in Europe and wanted to see how much it would cost me to withdraw 200 Euros. The official interbank exchange rate on July 24th 2023 was so that 200 Euros were equivalent to USD $222.49 - of course when you use an ATM it is assumed that the institution will have its own inflated rate as well as fees. What I did not expect is that Aspiration charged me $250.37 for this little experiment. So fees for a simple 200 Euro withdrawal amounted to $27.88. Normally my credit union or bank charges a few Dollars - I suppose that is what I get for putting my money in an unregulated pseudo-bank.

I like the ethics and idea…
I like the ethics and idea behind the company, but there's a lot of annoying quirks in dealing with them. 1. I can link my PayPal account sort of, and receive money from PayPal, but I can't send money to PayPal. 2. No billpay 3. No checks 4. If I want to transfer money to an account at a different bank, my only option is to "log in" to my account through this third party service called Plaid. I can't just add the routing and account number. 5. IRA fees are high. 6. I have managed to link one account to Aspiration. I tried to transfer money from Aspiration to this other bank (so the other account could send money to PayPal) but the ACH left the account holder name field blank, causing the other bank to reject the transfer and send the money back to Aspiration. Conclusion: Not as convenient as most other banks. Annoying.

Worst customer service of all time
Worst customer service of all time. Someone stole my wallet while I was traveling in Mexico and I needed my debit card replaced. First, they could not send a debit card to Mexico. They offered it to mail it to a friend in the US so she could mail it to me. I provided them with an address, but the card never arrived. It turned out they had cancelled it since the address was a friend's and could not be linked to me, even though it was their idea to mail it there in the first place. They never even told me they decided not to send it, I eventually got in touch with them bc it never showed up. Every time I sent an email to their support email it took days for them to respond. The entire time I've been without a card. Then they asked me to submit an ID and selfie to get the card sent to the friend's address. I did that but 'no one was available to review the documents'. It has been four days since then. They also froze my digital card, KNOWING that that was literally the only way I had to make any purchases, because they couldn't verify the friend's address as my mailing address, even though I never claimed it was my mailing address, using that address was their idea, and it was to troubleshoot the fact that they couldn't send me a card internationally. It's been a month of this. I'm currently on the phone with them, and the last agent said there is still no one to review the documents. She said she could not give me a timeline or any information at all about when the documents would be reviewed or the card could be mailed. She promised to connect me to a manager, but she connected me to some random person in investments. He is currently trying to get me a manager to speak with. It has been a month of being unable to access my money. This bank is a complete disaster. I care about socially responsible investing, so I thought I'd give them a shot, but the inability to resolve this has completely disrupted my life. If I didn't have friends who are willing and able to spot me for a month I would have ended up homeless and starving due to this bank.

Where do I begin? My account was locked due to “suspicious activity” within a few months of having it; after innumerable phone calls and emails, my waiting nearly a year to close my account; my receiving an email today that “ Due to recent activity, your investment transactions are now limited to redemptions only. If you would like to place a sale, please contact a member of our Customer Support team,” when ALL OF MY ACCOUNTS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE CLOSED; the overall ineptitude and shadiness with which my account was handled (apparently it REMAINS OPEN); I cannot believe that this company still exists!

They told me it will be in my account on Monday..I'm like WTH aspiration suppose to have your direct deposits 2 days early into your account. DON’T RELY ON ASPIRATION CARD IN GUATEMALA!
Unfortunately, I was relying on my Aspiration card this past week in Guatemala. Not a single ATM accepted my Aspiration card. I ended up having to use a card from a different bank and spent over $50. in fees. Fortunately, I had enough in the other bank. DON’T RELY ON ASPIRATION IN GUATEMALA!!! Customer service
I had a Google hold on my card. The 800# to call was kind of busy and gave the option to call me back at the same order I called which I love first of all. The call was only a few minutes later the representative was very knowledgeable and able to identify it was not something I did so she canceled my card. Very efficient and effective!
