Overview

The Aspiration Zero credit card was designed to help consumers cut their carbon footprint. With this card, every purchase you make results in a tree being planted to offset your carbon emissions. You can also round up your purchases to the nearest dollar to plant a second tree.

When you get to 60 trees planted in a month - which is either 60 transactions or 30 rounded-up transactions - you’ve gone carbon-neutral according to Aspiration’s calculations. As a reward, the company will give you 1% cash back on all your purchases for that month. You can track how many trees you’ve planted each month through the Aspiration mobile app.

Suitable for?

The Aspiration Zero credit card is most suitable for consumers who want to reduce their environmental impact. Planting a tree or two with every purchase helps to offset your carbon footprint. In addition, Aspiration’s mobile app scores merchants based on their social impact and eco-friendliness, so you can focus your spending at stores that match your values.

The downside to the Aspiration Zero card is that its rewards program doesn’t provide as much cash back as traditional cash back credit cards. You only receive 0.5% cash back on eligible purchases until at least 60 trees are planted within a month, and even then you’re limited to 1% back. In addition, the Aspiration Zero credit card has a $60 annual fee. So this credit card is most suitable for those who prioritize sustainability over cashback rewards.

Since day one, i had difficulties w/ Aspiration: donations not recorded, poor customer service and i feel as though i was ROBBED for $103 that was said to have been w/drawn from my checking at an ATM... I haven't used an ATM in ~15 years! lol Many other bad reviews lead me to believe that (maybe an employee of) Aspiration lied and maybe ROBBED me! I had nearly 7K in my savings account…
I had nearly 7K in my savings account October 21st, 2022. Aspiration closed my acct and has denied me access to my money. As of today, there has been a 90 day time period of not being to access my funds while being told the account closure department will send me a check but that that dept has no phone access and only operate by email. At this point, the hold on my money is theft. I have made contact with the company repeatedly since Oct 2022 with no resolution or timeline of release of my money. Below is a copied review of other users who has had a similar experience recently. If I cannot get this resolved in the next 5 business days, I will be creating a lawsuit others waiting on their money too long can join. 1. “ I opened an account with Aspiration … I opened an account with Aspiration after being referred to them from Wells Fargo my primary bank. I had money deposited into my account, waited the allotted days, then as soon as my money cleared they closed my account with no explanation of why. This was on November 7, 2022, and it is December 28th, 2022, I have yet to receive my balance check of $2500.00 since closing my account. Will not give me any information when contacting them! I’m beyond shocked of this kind of business. I opened an account with Aspiration … Date of experience: November 07, 2022” 2. “They will close your account and hijack your money! Update!!! Sandra from aspiration contacted me to apologize on their behalf. She explained it was a mistake and even called me in person to apologize . My account has been fully restored and my funds where not attached. If you ever have a similar issue just ask to talk to a supervisor . This was my first time having an issue with them so I would say don’t hesitate to bank with aspiration Run, I repeat run, this is coming from a dental student who does not have the time to write reviews, but I want to save someone from going through same. I wish I could give 0 stars, I linked my account to an external account, 2 for that matter because I urgently needed funds. Only to receive an email the next day that my account has been closed. I called customer care and the agent said only the email team can help. The email team replied and Jessica, an agent said there is nothing she can do about it, it cannot be opened, I cannot reapply ( like I would even want to) and worse of all she can't tell me when I will be getting my refund check back! I am now stuck with no money and waiting on a check that I don't know of when it would arrive! This is officially the worse day of 2022 in my life and now I have to contact lawyers to take them to court , waste all that time and money just to get them to send my money back!l Date of experience: October 09, 2022” In response to Aspiration's reply- I have the emails including those from 01/20/2023 that still state the same response of there is no way to know when I will receive my money as the process of closure is not complete. Untrue Sales Promotion
I opened an Aspiration Spend and Save account after searching on the internet for high yield savings accounts. It had a $200 bonus and highest interest so I was thrilled. I read all the bonus details to comply but when the time was nearly up for me to receive the bonus, customer support said I didn’t use the bonus link and couldn’t appeal. I had taken a picture of the link I used with my phone because I’m a person that reads the fine print and couldn’t think of another way to verify I followed the directions (and why would I need to prove it?). I understand that doesn’t prove anything (although customer service was silent after I sent it) but it feels untrustworthy that a company could go back on a sales promotion offer. I’d hope there’s an audit to see who else might have been affected. At any rate, I’m currently closing the account as I don’t want to stay and find out what else they say and don’t do.

Won't let me sign up
Twice I have tried to sign up for Aspiration, as they align with my climate goals. The first time was a year ago. I went to the website, tried to create an account, but it rejected the email addresses I tried to use. I wrote to their support, who said they couldn't find my account. After I had written to say I couldn't create one. Then never got another reply. Fast-forward one year to just now, I tried again. Same result: the website won't let me use any of my perfectly normal email addresses to sign up. I wrote again to support, but not a promising start.

Hightly recommend this card
I have had this card for over a year. I have had other prepaid cards in the past and they have been riddled with fees and restrictions. If you do a mobile check deposit you wait forever for it to post and you never know what time of day your direct deposit will hit, which I hate. With Aspiration, I know my direct deposit will hit by 4am on payday. It always comes two days early even if the date is a Sunday which no other cards do. I deposited at least two checks that I can recall via mobile deposit and they were available 24 hours later. I do wish they offered some type of cushion like some other prepaid cards do. I get a check every month from social security from a death benefit and have been getting it since 2017. It would be nice since they know I am getting it put on that card to have a little cushion for an emergency. On my previous card, I could overdraw up to 200.00 with no fees. I do like the plant a tree feature that comes with this card. I think its great they are trying to help the environment. Overall, I am pretty happy with this card.

I was a victim of fraud
I was a victim of fraud. Someone had gained access to my email. And had used that email to gain access to many different bank accounts, credit cards and other financial and even personal social media accounts. When I called aspiration to let them know of the fraud, they said it would be around 10 business days before I should expect to find out if they need more information, or we're going to refund the $162 that was illegitimately charged to my account. They took every one of those days, to send me an email saying that they were going to credit back the money while they furthered researched the fraud case. The very next day they sent me an email saying that they had closed the case and found no fraud. And no point did they even ask for paperwork, the police report I have or anything like that. And then they of course took back the $162. And so it appears that I am out that money. This is a very interesting outcome as when I called the first time to report the fraud, the customer service agent I spoke with was able to tell me that someone had logged into my account and used a digital debit card to make a purchase to a company that didn't even sound legit " no hash.com" or something along those lines. I have been with them since 2019, and have never used a digital card ever. So it seems like that would have flagged something. Not alone then the name of the bank account that the money was transferred to, or really a fraud account established as a purchase. I have sense sent them a request, to reopen the case. Which is what the customer service agent told me to do when I called to complain about the outcome. And it has now been several days and I have not received an email even to confirm that they received my request. And so today I sent them another email, this one with a letter prepared by my attorney, showing the exact charge I was disputing, and including an attached copy of the police report. We will see how things proceed from here. This is an awful lot of work, with poor customer service, especially in reference to the other bank accounts I have, which were pretty prompt to do a refund, and their investigation must have come up with clear indicators of fraud, because none of them asked for a refund.

I filed a dispute almost 2 months ago. I had to file a dispute against the same merchant with my other bank as well. My other bank completed their investigation within a week and I was refunded my money. Now with aspiration, I can’t even get a hold of someone who will tell me what’s going on with my dispute. They said I would be getting a provisional credit, never did. They basically stole $150 from me. Every time I try to get a hold of someone, I just get an automated response of “continue to check your email”. Where is my money? Why is it taking this bank so long when it took my other bank a week?!?

Terrible Customer Service
Terrible Customer Service. I applied for this credit card to allow my teenagers to use as environmentally friendly authorized users. Not until I got the card did they inform me that they do NOT YET allow authorized users. I asked to cancel the card, NEVER activated it. They never canceled my account and have been charging me interest and late fees. Even though I NEVER activated the card or used the account, they are still charging me account fees and late fees and refuse to waive the fees for this card that I did not want and never used. Horrific service.

I've been banking with Aspiration for a while and have never had a bad experience. I only wish the savings account was a higher rate. The customer service is excellent!

Aspiration Bank is top notch!
I can't say enough good things about banking with Aspiration. Deposits, withdrawals, and transfers are fast and accurate, customer service agents are friendly and knowledgeable, the website is clear and easy to navigate, and they plant a tree for every transaction you make!
