Aspiration is a socially conscious bank that aims to make personal finance more eco-friendly. The bank launched in 2013 and released its first credit card, the Aspiration Zero, in 2021. Overview

The Aspiration Zero credit card was designed to help consumers cut their carbon footprint. With this card, every purchase you make results in a tree being planted to offset your carbon emissions. You can also round up your purchases to the nearest dollar to plant a second tree.

When you get to 60 trees planted in a month - which is either 60 transactions or 30 rounded-up transactions - you’ve gone carbon-neutral according to Aspiration’s calculations. As a reward, the company will give you 1% cash back on all your purchases for that month. You can track how many trees you’ve planted each month through the Aspiration mobile app.

Suitable for?

The Aspiration Zero credit card is most suitable for consumers who want to reduce their environmental impact. Planting a tree or two with every purchase helps to offset your carbon footprint. In addition, Aspiration’s mobile app scores merchants based on their social impact and eco-friendliness, so you can focus your spending at stores that match your values.

The downside to the Aspiration Zero card is that its rewards program doesn’t provide as much cash back as traditional cash back credit cards. You only receive 0.5% cash back on eligible purchases until at least 60 trees are planted within a month, and even then you’re limited to 1% back. In addition, the Aspiration Zero credit card has a $60 annual fee. So this credit card is most suitable for those who prioritize sustainability over cashback rewards.

Rewards & Cashback

The Aspiration Zero card rewards you for purchases by helping you reduce your carbon footprint. When you make a purchase with the Aspiration Zero credit card, Aspiration pays to plant a tree on your behalf. After 60 trees planted in a single month, Aspiration says that you reach carbon neutrality. The Application Process

The Aspiration Zero credit card is currently in an early access phase, so you’ll need to sign up for the waitlist for now. Aspiration has said that there are over 100,000 people on the waitlist and the company has not announced when it will begin rolling out the card on a large scale.

Aspiration offers customer support by email only. The company’s website has a help center, but there is currently little information there about the Zero credit card.

Security

Aspiration protects customers’ personal information with 256-bit AES encryption and 24/7 online monitoring. The Zero credit card is backed by Mastercard’s Zero Liability Protection Policy, so you’ll never be responsible for fraudulent transactions made using your card.

    even though I have linked my bank of america checking account, Aspiration does not support automatic monthly balance payments. I have multiple credit cards and never seen this before. I find this lack of basic functionality to be deeply cynical and disappointing, and I've cancelled the card.

I had a credit application pending since July and its now September they have taken no action only to say we will contact you via email. I guess they like saying how can we help you make an impact today...all to funny. Not sure if they gonna have many customers.     Payroll tried to gaslight me...

    The direct deposit from my payroll check wasn't showing in my account. The payroll company said that the bank was probably holding it and told me to take it up with them. Alexandra verified my account and checked the activity. Then she reviewed the deposits and confirmed that they had not received my paycheck yet. She even took the time to explain how Aspiration processes deposits and why I'm usually able to access my funds earlier than expected. It didn't solve my issue but it was very helpful and now I have what I need to go back and argue with the paycheck people lol.

    I was inquiring about a card that I thought should have arrived via the mail service and the person that answered my call after a very brief hold, was different from the last decade of toll free "customer support" people that answered calls I have made. Much to my suprise this person was genuinely happy and told me that she cared about the earth in her own words and basically gave me the opportunity to either just get right to my reason for the call or to say something odd like, how's your day going as if we were having a face to face conversation, and you could tell that scripted or not it was genuine. The other pleasantly different and unfamiliar statement that stood out during this phone call was that I was given a real name and a country from which this was being answered, instead of a super heavy accent with a name of Suzy or Bill, because that always insults me. Now while all this chit chat with the friendly person is happening it is reminding me of a nicer era in time and then my issue was quickly taken care of professionally and friendly at the same time. I must say as unfamiliar as it was I knew right away that I could get used to people being friendly & honest at the same time. Dave M

    Warning to investers...Finra doesnt help either aspiration must be paying the arbitrators off or stacking the arbitrators in their favor! The proof that i have is undoubtably clear aspiration us full of nothing but fraud! Its not over yet i proactively contacted the ombudsmans office, with the expectation that aspiration would not have to face any disciplinary action as it was clear to me at the begining of the hearing the arbitrator didnt want to hear my supporting evidence he was already leaning in the favor of aspiration!     So far so good with Aspiration- I was able to open an account and make a deposit right from my mobile app. They took their time in ensuring that I had all the proper identifications and that they were uploaded through a secure encrypted site. This made me feel at ease. In addition, they have me an update when my card arrived and handled my stolen or lost card immediately on a Sunday! They stand for a great cause and seem to truly be living their values. Looking forward to doing business when my card arrives.

    I had well over $2,000 in my account and they froze it “for review” over 3 months ago. I have called and emailed, even spoke to a supervisor, and they can tell me nothing. I currently have no car and was saving this money to get a car. So, still without transportation until they release my money!! I’m reporting them to the FTC and those who are also in this situation should do the same! I am so angry with this “bank” scam!!

    I have nothing but great things to say…

    I have nothing but great things to say about aspiration. I have been a member since 2016 and became a Plus subscriber once that became a thing. This Bank has never done me any wrong. The perks were better when Aspiration wasn't as popular, but there are great features and things I love about Aspiration which is why I stayed. I like knowing my money doesn't go into more oil rigs and coal plants. I like knowing my carbon is being offset at the gas pump. I've never paid a fee to Aspiration that I didn't voluntarily agree to pay. I don't use the plant my change feature personally, but it's nice to know they will round up my purchase to plant trees if I opt in! I like to invest in the redwood fund, I think it's a pretty good ETF to have in the portfolio. Anytime I have called customer support, the answer time has been almost immediate. The reps are always very friendly and have always been able to help me. Best banking experience I've ever had!

The customer service person was very polite in explaining that it's just not connected for us yet, and helped me make a request to have it fully integrated.     My account has been “under review for 8 months, where I’ve had zero access to my funds which total to approx. 10,000.

    I’ve had my account with aspiration for approximately 2 years and up until the beginning of this year I would have had nothing but good things to say BUT on the 20th of January, this year aspiration placed my account “under review” and ever since I’ve had zero access to my funds (which totaled to roughly $10,000 between my checking and savings account.) Other than the initial email sent to me notifying me that my account was under review, I have had absolutely no luck, with their customer service, with finding any answers to my questions, for example… Why was my account placed under review? Or how long will it take to review my account? Because it’s been exactly 8 months now that I’ve had zero access to my account and zero access to the thousands of dollars within my accounts. As you can imagine this has negatively affected my life and every aspect in it. I trusted this bank and used them as my primary bank and now because I trusted them they have basically froze my account, and locked me out from accessing my account and the funds in it. I do not understand how they can call themselves a bank and do this to their customers. The last 8 months have been so much harder than they ever should have been had I had access to the funds that are rightfully mine. Aspiration bank is a scam and if you are thinking about banking with them I’d proceed with extreme caution.

    The CSR'S are awesome, the company needs improvement

    The representatives are always friendly and as helpful as they can be. They cannot control company policies or processing times so I give them 5 stars while I am not "5 star satisfied" with Aspirations processing times or other features that have been a inconvenience.

    Horrible bank, bunch of frauds

    Opened an account with them and tried to fund it with my SOFI checking account. I had over $9k in my external account and sent just $900 to Aspiration because I believed all their nonsense about giving back. Next thing I know they declined my transfer due to “insufficient funds”. When I contacted them to ask why, they turned around and closed my account for no reason and wouldn’t let me open another one. Then to top it all off they wouldn’t tell me why they closed my account. Bunch of con artists

    Account frozen with no explanation for over a year now

    I opened an account for my husband a year ago. They froze the account with no explanation. We have emailed customer support 10+ times over the past year. The account remains frozen with no explanation. They do respond to every email, with a polite note about they "just have no information" about why the account is frozen and they will "let us know when the investigation is complete". 12 months. How is this legal? It's something stupid like $200 in the account - but it's $200 that belongs to us that somehow they have the right to keep for an undetermined period of time for an undetermined reason. We would really love for them to give us our money back and close this account. Complete sham of a company.

    I’ve been having some financial difficulties, lost my mom on January 7th 2020 I’m the last surviving child. My dad passed in 98 and my brother took his life in 2014. I’m a single mom. I have to sell our family home and had got an advance wired to me, they were very helpful. and things have been stressful. They made things a lot easier very helpful and nice!!!     Account freezers.

    This company offers a savings account for 5 percent when you pay them 71.00 bucks. Fine, it's stupid but fine right you still end up making money at 5 percent. You know how these tree huggers give you this money? By selling your information as a complete package to Google, Facebook, Twitter, and creditors. What's required in order for them to sell it as a full package? 1. Cell Phone 2. Social Security number. 3. Full name and address. 4. This is the trick your photo ID, this part of the scam comes later. ?5. I'm getting weird phone calls after giving aspiration my number, when I answer I can hear people breathing but won't talk. They are waiting for you to talk, so they can get a sample of your voice, which is my assumption. Paranoid? Maybe but maybe not. These cheap no Gooders won't let you deposit anything great then 10,000.00 and earn the full 5 percent nope nope can't do that. Here's the first red flag, you're not allowed to transfer anything greater than 2000.00 via ach per day. So, what did they do they tell me the transfers have been canceled. I asked them had they lost their damn minds? They replied to ignore the email they didn't cancel the transfers. Shakes head...... So finally, after waiting a week the transfers finally debit from the bank. I go into aspiration to see if the money is in there collecting interest and what do I see nothing, nada. So yesterday I get message the account has been locked. I know this drill though; this is what banks do to tie up large sums of money, and then they demand you do it in order to get it back. It's like ransomware but from banks. In this case they wanted an ID to complete their Facebook package, and a statement from my bank. The government lets them get away with this, they use the Patriot Act to conduct fraud like this. If you lose your social security number to a data dump you can always lock your credit account and prevent some of the damage. These geniuses manage to lose picture and your ID your screwed, there is no undoing that, so I will always refuse to give my driver's license. Which is why they do this fraud after the account is open. Avoid this P.O.S company like the plague. Sorry for the long read but it's necessary. EDIT: Which is why I sent the ID but the demands grew to selfies. Plus you guys wanted a ID you could read in high quality which is why I sent it in PNG then you guys asked me to send it in a jpeg really? I am so sick of fraudulent banks.

    I applied for aspiration cc. Going through their online process of providing all required information, I was accepted. Then a contradictory message appeared that they were going to review the acceptance....??? I also got an email saying this, plus a statement, saying "We’ll need just a bit more time to review your application.....will be in touch with you soon". After more than a business week, no response of any kind. (Soon??? A little more time??? Is that not a lie???) So I called. I was apparently declined. Why? And why they did not get back to me? They could not say in my face, even though they had been overly cautious to establish my identity. So what is the secret here? They could not just say. They obvouisly knew, but they did not bother to contact me as they promised black on white nor where they disingeniously in simply stating what was promised. So multiple lies and disingenuity here. I was going to get a letter from them, in 45 days!!! I was told. This apparently is "soon" and "a bit more time". How is that for getting back to me soon. Why on earth does it take them 45 days to let me know what they already decided. Also I was never given the opportunity to rebuke whatever they adopted as the reason to decline. Terrible. Totally substandard. The only good thing is I got smby on the phone not having to wait an hour as some other substandard banks. Overall, very inconsiderate, dishonest and disingenious in treating a potential customer. Besides my credit rating is 800+. Don't deal with them. Dump them.

    Beyond exceptional customer service. Both speed and action taken was near minutes. Problem solving and action taken to resolve request sent through contact portal was something I've never expirence before with any other company. This has me rethinking canceling my account, I most likely will keep the account open based on this interaction.

    Great Customer Service!

    Aspiration is a mostly web-based self-serve system as are many these days. Unlike many, when you need to get support it is easy to find, quick to reply, and helpful. Their core business seems solid, and they have actual customer service. Very nice to find in this day and age.
