Overview

The Aspiration Zero credit card was designed to help consumers cut their carbon footprint. With this card, every purchase you make results in a tree being planted to offset your carbon emissions. You can also round up your purchases to the nearest dollar to plant a second tree.

When you get to 60 trees planted in a month - which is either 60 transactions or 30 rounded-up transactions - you’ve gone carbon-neutral according to Aspiration’s calculations. As a reward, the company will give you 1% cash back on all your purchases for that month. You can track how many trees you’ve planted each month through the Aspiration mobile app.

Suitable for?

The Aspiration Zero credit card is most suitable for consumers who want to reduce their environmental impact. Planting a tree or two with every purchase helps to offset your carbon footprint. In addition, Aspiration’s mobile app scores merchants based on their social impact and eco-friendliness, so you can focus your spending at stores that match your values.

The downside to the Aspiration Zero card is that its rewards program doesn’t provide as much cash back as traditional cash back credit cards. You only receive 0.5% cash back on eligible purchases until at least 60 trees are planted within a month, and even then you’re limited to 1% back. In addition, the Aspiration Zero credit card has a $60 annual fee. So this credit card is most suitable for those who prioritize sustainability over cashback rewards.

Rewards & Cashback

The Aspiration Zero card rewards you for purchases by helping you reduce your carbon footprint. When you make a purchase with the Aspiration Zero credit card, Aspiration pays to plant a tree on your behalf. If you round up your purchase to the nearest dollar, Aspiration plants 2 trees on  your behalf. 

After 60 trees planted in a single month, Aspiration says that you reach carbon neutrality. To reward you for that milestone, the company gives you 1% cash back on all of your purchases for the month. If you don’t reach 60 trees planted in a month, you will only receive 0.5% cash back for transactions made during that month.

The Application Process

The Aspiration Zero credit card is currently in an early access phase, so you’ll need to sign up for the waitlist for now. Aspiration has said that there are over 100,000 people on the waitlist and the company has not announced when it will begin rolling out the card on a large scale.

Aspiration offers customer support by email only. The company’s website has a help center, but there is currently little information there about the Zero credit card.

Aspiration protects customers’ personal information with 256-bit AES encryption and 24/7 online monitoring. The Zero credit card is backed by Mastercard’s Zero Liability Protection Policy, so you’ll never be responsible for fraudulent transactions made using your card.

    This bank is just silly

    I was super impressed with the fantastic interest rate, even bought their yearly plan to get the full 5%. I know banks have to have criteria to make it worth giving you a high interest rate (like DD, spending requirements etc) so I was completely cool with their requirements. They offer interest only on funds up to 10k. I set up an initial transfer for 12K to get a great rate on the 10K and be able to use the 2k to meet their spending requirements. I even switched my DD, thinking this would become my primary checking and a good place to park 10k. The website allowed me to set up the 12k transfer (with no alerts) but days passed and the money never moved. Eventually, when I hovered over the amount of transfer on the website, it said I should call their 1800 number. When I called they said you could only transfer in 1k for the first seven days, then another 1k and then after 30 days another. This makes no sense to me. I can understand a hold (with interest) on the larger amount so they can verify where the money came from. With such good interest rates, I also understand low risk, but people are busy. Taking over a month before you can actually "use" the account is just not an effective tool for busy lives. This left me feeling like the bank was not to be taken seriously for real savers/investors and not worth anyone's time. The environmental piece was an interesting and compelling idea, but it's hard to imagine this is anything other than greenwashing when you see how poorly they execute their main purpose, being a bank/financial institution.

    The card has its pros and cons. The good thing is helping plant trees on the earth side by spending money but the customer service and the knowledge of some Of these employees is not good . They have messed up on my account and literally I have to pay for there screw up which isn’t cool One big. My account has been in good standing with them since day one. They offer these things to win like a dream house so create and dream Of a house you know quite frankly you aren’t going to get then have the audacity to try and charge ne LOL. Then an atm screws up and they gave me money 2x on accident so now my account is negative 400 dollars because someone can’t do the job right so what exactly happens do you undig these lovely trees you planted? I just want the charge reversed and closed because number one I’ll never win anything they promote and 2 I think then messing up isn’t fair so what else can they mess up that’s peoples money your messing with. Anyone who only comments nothing but great things about aspiration is probably a helping family member or an employee then selves disguising them with a fake name because quite frankly besides them so called helpin this earth planting some bull crap trees nothing u can say good about them what so ever. They always find some way to screw u and ur account over and it’s a big headache. Save the headache and save ur money time and find a place to plant trees sone where else. Oh and that 150 promotion u are supposed to get I never have got and it’s because they screwed up my account .     Excellent customer service!

    I have both a Spend and a Save account with Aspiration. I wanted to transfer funds from an external bank, and had a question about the 'daily limit' on incoming transfers. I contacted customer service, and had an excellent experience. The representative was friendly, professional and was very easy to talk with. Although he did not know the answer to my second question, he followed up via email and let me know that he was waiting for the answer, and that he would follow up as soon as he knew. And he did just that. Their website is easily navigable, they provide excellent services, all while helping offset my carbon footprint. What's not to love!

It is, therefore, no surprise Forbes reported that firms lose over $75 billion due to poor customer service. Let me start by saying hi, I hope you are well. I am a Mother, an almost Grandmother, a dedicated employee, and a law abiding citizen. I am writing this to hopefully help any consumer that is co considering doing business with ASPIRATION. Aspiration is not a bank, so it does not have a banking license, instead it is an SEC-registered broker-dealer. This "bank" has the worst customer service, processing times, and communication I have experienced in my 51 years on this planet, and I have dealt with some stuff! PLEASE, DONT OPEN AN ACCOUNT AT ASPIRATION! I thought I would join Aspiration to give back to the earth. It has been 100% miserable dealing with them, here are just a few of my miserable experiences: 1. Mobile deposits not going through because they require you to write a paragraph on the back of the check you are depositing, my check had the entire paragraph and it was still rejected. Had to wait 2 days to get the money in my account. SUPER CONVENIENT! 2. Customer service is not friendly and really don't care when you have an issue. I have heard, "I don't have any information about that, and have been told that they "cannot see a transaction" that I received an email from them about and that I can see myself, online. 3. I started a new job with a large well known company. I setup my direct deposit accordingly. I doubled checked the routing and account numbers several times for accuracy. ASPIRATION REJECTED the direct deposit. When I called them I was told that "they don't know why it was rejected", "maybe the numbers were wrong". I assured them that I went back after the rejection just to make sure the numbers were correct, and they are all correct, they basically said, "I don't know why", "I can't help you". To add insult to injury, on that same day they decided to freeze my account for "security reasons", as of today my account has been frozen for over 4 days. I have called multiple times, I even spoke to a "Manager", she said, "the direct deposit won't go through when an account is frozen". THE ACCOUNT WAS NOT FROZEN WHEN THEY REJECTED MY DIRECT DEPOSIT!!! I am a boring old lady with zero security flags, there were a number of direct deposits from my previous job, still, I am not able to access my account and unable to know why, they wont tell me anything but "your account is under review for security reasons", and, "we cannot see why and we don't know how long it will take". ASPIRATION IS NOT A TRADITIONAL BANK. ASPIRATION USES OTHER BANKS WHICH CAUSES MAJOR ISSUES. ASPIRATION HAS HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO NOT USE ASPIRATION FINANCIAL!!     Banking that is good for the environment

    I have been using Aspiration bank for a few years and I love it. They allow me to give back and make the world a better place and I have a choice about my fee, therefore I am never surprised charged on my account. This bank has made banking safer by allowing me to do all of my business online. Receiving direct deposit early, yes love that. Um, I love that all of may banking and investing can be done from the comfort of home. There are no shortage of ATMs that are free of surcharges. I love this bank.

    Overall I'm so impressed with this banking option. Finding someone that's not a funder of oil companies and corporations is a must and aspiration is very intentional to not only not fund these companies but also fight against them. From speaking out against oil companies to helping you invest in companies that are fighting climate change to allowing you to let every purchase you make help plan a tree. They're definitely things that I would love to see them change or add but overall I am super pleased to be a part of this Bank.

    PART 2 ON WHY YOU SHOULD STAY AWAY

    I’m back for another part two of my earlier review…. This company is still the complete worst and their customer service is by far the worst I’ve ever experienced. They closed my account for reasons I still don’t know on the 8th and said that they would refund my account in a check okay well it is now the 22nd and according to “customer service” they are still “closing” my account and will give me more details when they get some. I never made one transaction with this bank and the closed and locked my account before I could do anything so now I have $250 floating in the wind. No one ever gives straight answers and it’s the vague automated information. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY! They are scammers and will have you waiting and waiting to the point you don’t even know what you are waiting for.

    Well I lost my card, had been waiting on replacement to arrive while I was working out of town. Pops accidentally garbage canned it. I went and checked my account online and it wasn’t letting me replace the replacement card. The customer support telephone link is right at the bottom of the page. Click, click, boom!     High returns and low environmental impact.

    I have been extremely happy with Aspiration. The Spend and Save accounts have been great, with the added bonus that my Save account has recently started earning me 5% interest (with Plus membership). I love having access to invest in the Aspiration Redwood Fund, and enjoy watching my recurring investment grow quite quickly (15-25% average return). I also really love knowing that my investments and savings are not being used to fund companies whose operations go against my values surrounding the environment. Bonus, my Plus membership allows me to offset my fuel purchases.

    They seem to have difficulty with technology (scary for an investment company)

    Stay away from Aspiration if you expect an investment company to be tech savvy! When they are generated, statements are 2-3 months after the end of the quarter. Unfortunately, most of the time statements are never available from their website. Getting a statement almost always requires going to their website and opening a ticket for your missing statement. This results in someone emailing the (password-protected) statement to you because they can't seem to generate your statement and have it available on their website for download. Pitiful excuse for a financial organization. Also, the performance of their fund is much lower than top tier funds that are backed professional companies with great customer service. And you can get your quarterly statement within days if not the day after the quarter ends. Imagine that!!!

I called Aspiration to report this and the said they could not do anything. Based on all the negative reviews on this site, I would request a federal investigation.     I wish there were an option to share photos on this website. Sure aspiration says NOW that they can't handle business accounts but they weren't saying that just a few months ago when many of us were recieving deposits (which by the way I might add THAT WERE ACCEPTED) into our accounts. I have photos to prove that they either accepted them or theyve mislead us into believing they did. One more thing... If my deposit was against your policies I not only would like to know why it was accepted but why did aspiration wait weeks after I submitted my first dispute to lock my account. There is no protection in place. How many of you remember just last year when logging into your accounts you were able to see the log ins as well as up addresses that had logged into your accounts? I remember seeing this I found it very helpful why is this option now removed from us? I only can assume the worse. Also I've requested the documents from my disputes five times now and have not received a single document

    This bank has locked me out of mobile deposit and transfers. They have been telling me for almost a month that 'they don't know what the issue is and are looking into it and will get back to me....bla, bla, bla...' Nothing gets resolved and I am unable to deposit or transfer money. I am doing my best to pull out of this bank ASAP. I'm literally going to have to pull all the money out in cash and put it into my new account and change all of my bill pays..terrible!

    I would give this company zero stars if I could… I WISH I READ THE REVIEWS BECAUSE ITS TRUE THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM. I signed up using the steady app and the set up was confusing I thought I was saying I wanted to make a zero deposit but turns out it’s somehow was a $250 deposit I tried to call the next day to cancel because I didn’t see the email until the next morning and the man was real nonchalant and said it was already processed but I would be able to take the money out well the next morning I get an email stating my account is now locked… it’s been over a week and no one is giving me answers to why or how long the “investigation” they said I’m under will take that money was planned to be used for major bills and now I just keep getting told to wait but no one will tell me how long or if I could submit anything to speed up the process I thought it was my banks fault but apparently it’s internal… worse mistake was letting this company come anywhere near my account… I want to sue

    Due justice shall take its course I happen to have emails from aspiration offering to pay me 25$ to set up direct deposit also asking me if I got my federal pandemic unemployment assistance payments set up to be deposited into my account.... correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't pua created for those who are self employed small business owners or gig workers who typically do not qualify for regular unemployment????? Aspiration knew I was self employed they wanted me to switch my deposits to them. At the bottom of the emails they also state that unemployment government funds gig workers social security deposits were all ok. But the best part is it also reads NOMATTER WHERE YOUR MONEY COMES FROM you should ok uldnt have to wait for jt!!!! And their defense is to say my transactions were red flags and that if they knew I was a business they'd had closed my account?!?! Yes my transactions are red flags because I've literally got screen shots proving someone other than myself altered them and whether ya want to admit it or not it seems awfully odd that this didn't take place until after I complained to the bbb... then my account wasn't locked until I sent a pic of my bank statement in response to one of your reps emails. I disputed many transactions and had gotten no results. Yet it's my transactions your using against me lol. Well I'm glad I'm not the only person experiencing this issue. I'm extremely disappointed with this firm a place I once gave a five star rating to! Sad to say it folks I'm sorry any of us are going through this but maybe if we all stand out ground and NOT let them scare us justice will be served. I have to call my bank to block them and unlink my account and know been waiting on them to send my check 4 weeks now .I called them every week it's just a promise I can't believe it , am still waiting on my check is the worst company ever .     Same thing happened to me. But I was lucky to have a backdoor access to my account. So they thought I was locked out. But only though there portal. They know what they are doing. And if its been more than a month. Then your money is gone. They transferred 4500 from my savings to my checking then the next day they withdrew every cent out my checking leaving Me a balance of 0. In checking and savings. So I called when they did the transfer and I pressed 7 to dispute a transaction. Never said anything about my account being locked just I wanna file a dispute. Told her 4500 got transfer yesterday.(Oct 25) She okay let me look. Oh she said back in Sept I said no yesterday then she was like yeah I see it it says balance offset. I was like yeah what the hell is that. The lady was like what the freak Under her breath and apologized. She said hold on baby I'm going to get my team on this right now put me on hold came back in like 3 mins and said my team is on top of it right now. I'm just wanting on them to get back with me. 5 mins go by she comes back on the phone with a totally different attitude.. and was like that was a manual transfer that just means they are making progress with the review..the next day is when they took everything out of my checking account. I emailed them and told them I busted them taking my money. It wasn't no time and I git a reply saying that us government seized the money in my account that us secrect service and the sba are investigating for fraud. And my account was one that was selected for investigation. That us ss or sba will contact me in 30 dsys about getting the funds back. But you see that's a lie because on day 9 of being locked I called and talked to the highest ranked person there and demanded to know why it was locked because if it's locked by a creditor or your x wife then you have 10 days to respond after. That it's locked. We'll the supervisor assured me that this was no 3rd party lock this was strictly a in house freeze. That Aspiration them self locked it for review. According to the SBA. They haven't heard of such. According to there records my account was funded and the bank accepted it. And once the bank accepts it. They can't kick it back. They can try to send it back but SBA said we don't accept money coming in on accounts payable it's out going anyways.. but if you wanna make a difference contact your state senator sign a privacy release Form and they will make some stuff happen. You have more than one senator. So email more than one. And if all of us does this they will shut that ratchet ass company down. Green tree ny ass. Yeah green in his back pocket.

    Aspiration claims I've committed federal fraud recieving my PPP loan in my account. Yes I had minimal use of my account before hand yes I never told them I was a business because I barely used my account they claim I committed fraud mainly because of cash apps I sent from my account and I admit I did however I have the emails I sent them informing them my card wouldn't work the only way to get to the funds was to cash app someone I knew and remove them via their card I kept receipts which I will be submitted to the court to defend myself but my issue is HOW DOES THAT IN ANY WAY ANSWER TO THE ALTERING OF MY STATEMENTS? THEY LITERALLY ALTERED MY STATEMENT TO ACCOUNT FOR FUNDS THAT WERE MISSING AND I HAD DISPUTED! GO ON ASPIRATION CONTERSUE ME! IVE GOT WHAT I NEED TO PROTECT MYSELF AND I EXPECTED YOU TO DO THIS BEFORE I EVEN COMPLAINED TO FINRA! SO ASPIRATION CLAIMS IF I HAD INFORMED THEM THAT I WAS A BUSSINESS THEY WOULD HAVE CLOSED MY ACCOUNT. IM SELF EMPLOYEED I just don't get it why do I need to tell them I'm self employed? It's not like I'm a multi million dollar bussiness I'm a small income bussiness literally I emphasize SMALL however aspiration is all about giving small businesses loans and grants?!?!! Which I've recently discovered online also I just don't get it! Come on with it tho I'll see you in court! You'll in someway have to answer to the fraud youve commuted with the funds I received cuz I know I didn't spend the money and I've literally found so many contradicting things not only in my account but with their company.     WARNING-READ ALL THE ONE STAR REVIEWS BEFORE SIGNING UP. THEY SAID THEY WOULD GIVE ME A $150 BONUS IF I SPENT 1000 IN 60 DAYS. CUSTOMER SERVICE REP TOLD ME IT STARTS WHEN I SIGN UP FOR THE PROMO. OK I SPENT 2000 IN LESS THAN 60 DAYS AND THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THEIR AGREEMENT. WENT BACK AND FORTH BY EMAIL WITH A SUPERVISOR WHO CALLED IT A "MISCOMMUNICATION". NO IT IS CALLED A LIE. SHE SAID THE BEST SHE COULD DO WAS OFFER ME ANOTHER CHANCE TO SPEND 1000 IN LESS THAN 60 DAYS. NO, I DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH LOW LIVES WHO HAVE NO INTEGRITY. CANCELLED MY ACCOUNT.

    Well this is an update to a comment I wrote a few weeks back… On October 21st I used my sisters phone to call Aspiration since they have graciously blocked my number from calling them. On this phone call I was told by the representative the they were ceasing all communication with me effective immediately. I asked “Why??” She stated that she “Did not know but had to hang up immediately” & disconnected the call. I sat at my sisters kitchen table in disbelief! I have never been hung up on by a business in my life before!!! That being said I checked my email a few minutes later to only to find one from Aspiration saying the PPP loan I received was thought to be fraudulent and has been seized by the US government! Now I don’t know where or what this is coming from as this is news to me but according to the email they claim many people have been getting fraudulent SBA & PPP loans. So if your account is still frozen & you’re one of the many still in limbo waiting be prepared. They may drop the ball on you as well. Even if you know for certain you’re not doing anything wrong!!! Good luck to all of us and if only we had known to steer clear of this “bank.” 😞

    ive had and was using this mistake of a company aspiration spend and save account months prior to have applying for this ppp loan that sba was offering smal businesses for ive prior to getting the deposit of the ppp loan called aspiration spend and save and also i emailed the supporty aspiration email address asking and also letting them know that i was using my spend adn save account to get the benefits of my ppp loan well afte sending like five emails and no response i finally got a hold of somebody on the customer serivioce call cventer a nice yet lying man he was but after listening to me about my issue and upcoming deposit and AINT ALL CALLS RECORDED BC IF THATS THE CASE THEY WOULD SEE THAT THE ISSUE AND PROMBLEM ISNT ON MY SIDE BUT ITS A MISTAKE AND ERROR ON THEIR SIDE BC IF THAT LYIING CON of an employee on their CUSTOMER side would have told me that i wasnt allowed i would of takened my ppp loan else wehre and saved myself and them this headache however no i was told that there wasnt going to be any issues yet after giving the guy the amount my loan was for the type of loan it was coming from he notated it in my account and reassured me theres no issue so i went ahead abnd had my ppp loan money confirmed in their account and my money three weeks later was deposited into my aspiration spend and save account after it was deposited into my account not even 24 hrs later my account had frozen and lock warning when trying to log in and my funds have been kept from me over five months now with that bein said im still waiting on their email as to tell me even why im being frozen from my account and when trying to call their customer service they just tell me their not allowed to talk to me and hang up on me with no resolution as to how to get my money outta this mistaken account i had used please unlock my money or cut me a check and close out my account this is terrible.     I was a victim of identity theft about two weeks ago. Someone accessed my account and took everything I had. And all I keep getting from customer no service is, we understand how frustrating this must be. We are working on it...man, f@#× that, where is my money??? You can continue your investigation for as long as you want and have me arrested if you find out I committed some kind of fraud or something...basically what you're telling me by not returning my money is that you don't trust me....I don't know about you, but I don't associate with people who I don't trust...as soon as I get my money back I'll be closing my account. Because after reading some of these reviews, I'm not so sure one of your employees didn't steal my money
