Overview

The Aspiration Zero credit card was designed to help consumers cut their carbon footprint. With this card, every purchase you make results in a tree being planted to offset your carbon emissions. You can also round up your purchases to the nearest dollar to plant a second tree.

When you get to 60 trees planted in a month - which is either 60 transactions or 30 rounded-up transactions - you’ve gone carbon-neutral according to Aspiration’s calculations. As a reward, the company will give you 1% cash back on all your purchases for that month. You can track how many trees you’ve planted each month through the Aspiration mobile app.

The Aspiration Zero credit card is most suitable for consumers who want to reduce their environmental impact. Planting a tree or two with every purchase helps to offset your carbon footprint.     the bank was only ok

    the bank was only ok. I liked that they had a plant tree service which I did for a while. I then stopped banking with them after not getting help with a chargeback. I got scammed and the bank actually told me they had no form for this. They claimed my chargebsck was marked for fraud when I spoke to a manager but when the rep told me before he said it didnt fit there definition of fraud and wasn't filled as fraud. the bank claimed that because chargeapp just transfered the money its not there responsibility. even though it says chargebacks can be filled when you use a debit card. I found there service to be very unhelpful and there customer support people give basic service by email not always even answering anything. they also took over 45 days. this bank is OK for basic things only but I wouldn't trust making regular purchases all the time here with it. unless you want long waits for a chargeback. what ultimate did it for me was when the manager herself told me there's no form you fill out for fraud or scam. so I'm actually thinking of even making a complaint on the bank. it basically made me not want to bank with them !

    Fraudulent charges -closed dispute with boiler plate responses that do not apply to my situation

    I have been with Aspirations for several years. Up until 2021 they have been great. I had several fraudulent charges on my account, equaling almost $500.00. I had the card in my possession, so did not think to check my balance everyday. When I did, and saw the multiple charges, I tried to contact the bank. Like others, I was put on hold for hours, requested call backs that never happened, etc. I did not report the card stolen on line because I had it in my possession, and wanted to speak with customer service. The charges were at gas stations in the amounts of $100.00, $84.57, $100.00, $91.27 and $76.84 during a 10 day period. Three months later, they closed the dispute with the reasoning that the charges are consistent with the normal transaction activity seen on my account and that the card was in my possession. I drive a small compact car, fill up every two months for $20-$30, and have never had usage in the cities where these charges took place. I asked to re-open the dispute as they obviously closed the dispute on their end without any due diligence and used boiler plate reasoning that did not apply to me. It was suggested I speak with the establishments where the charges took place. While this is being disputed a second time, they took the funds out of my account that had previously been put in during the dispute. Now I will probably have to wait another three months for any response. Sadly, fraudulent charges, scamming mechanisms put on ATM's and gas tanks, etc. are a common occurrence in our society. If our bank will not recognize this and help support their customers, they are not a company that I would suggest opening any accounts with.

    My account was locked cause of the breach and you have already returned the disputed amount to the account and now you guys talk nothing about the breach or the disputed which means there's still no why my account should be held...in last message you sent you said you will update me under this thread and this is not the update i suppose to have I'm really regretting banking with you guys I'm going say it in your face cause this is not how other bank treat customer....you locked me out of my account and the only thing you can offers is that there's no update for a month now how amazing was that....You guys supposed to be reported to the authority.

    Wow aspiration sure are getting horrible reviews. You say people can’t accept money for business services, so why are you stealing that money and not returning it? And furthermore I received 2 Ppp loans to my account back in March or April without incident now I receive 10000 and suddenly I can’t receive money for business services??     I was so excited about Aspiration

    I was so excited about Aspiration, and then reality came crashing down. I had a security issue (lost checks) and it took days to get ahold of customer service. And when I finally did, they didn’t take it seriously. The rep was friendly but didn’t seem to understand how financial institutions work. It was unsettling. When I closed my account, I got an “Are you sure?” message telling me that I’d never be able to open an account with them again. The whole thing was just weird and unprofessional. What a shame.

    Aspiration was a terrible experience…

    Aspiration was a terrible experience for me. I was literally played with for two months just to open an account. They don’t communicate with their customers at all. Their website is also defective and doesn’t show the true status of application. Every few weeks I would have to send emails and reach out to the to see whats going on with my pending application. Again it would take them a long time to figure it out and send me an email with the links to upload documents, and they take forever to review documents. Literally forever! And when I decided to delete that application, they answered and deleted that application immediately and didn’t let me to file any application again. So basically playing with you for months and then when u r tired and frustrated kicking you out. Then then have some agents to send you and email and just say we apologize for inconvenience! They have no understanding of how banking and customer service should be. If you ever want to get a headache, try Aspiration. I see why they don’t even have good reviews!

    Do not trust this company with any of your funds, they make up excuses and will do anything to keep you from talking to a representative. Everytime I called I was on hold for over an hour. They give you a call back option then no one calls. You ask a question they have to call a higher up. I highly doubt they are really doing anything to help the environment, and just use it as a tactic to get new customers.

    Excitement to frustration to disbelief. Those are just a few of the emotions I felt in trying to open an account at Aspiration. The first clue should have been that their hold times were awful. I made 6 calls to them to try and get a resolution. Not a single call had a hold time of less than 20 minutes. I know what you're saying... Why didn't I stop there, right? Well I certainly had the thought as I was holding, but as my bank which I was with for 12 years (Simple bank) was purchased by BBVA, I was motivated to make a change to what I thought would be a company who would use my deposit account funds for good. That's where they get you. So after several e-mails with broken promises of responses ("you'll hear from us tomorrow" was more like "we'll get to you in a few days maybe, if you're lucky, and we feel like it"), they randomly sent a message stating that my application had been denied. "Denied? How could I be denied for a simple checking account?" was my immediate reaction. So I did what anyone would do... I asked why (in an e-mail). That's where it became unbelievable. The response was a flat out refusal to provide any information. The law here is pretty clear: "You must be told if information in your file has been used against you. Anyone who uses a credit report or another type of consumer report to deny your application for credit, insurance, or employment – or to take another adverse action against you – must tell you, and must give you the name, address, and phone number of the agency that provided the information." And there's a good reason for that law... how can a consumer correct something from a reporting agency used, if they don't know where it came from? I'm house hunting at the moment, and am dismayed that I don't know where they're getting the information they used. I religiously monitor my credit reports, and subscribe to resources from the major credit bureaus, I know what's in my files, and it makes no sense that it would be the problem. Since they won't give me information, I have now become paranoid that my identity information has been compromised or there's another problem. I even contacted ChexSystems just in case... and my file came back completely clean. I have good credit, nothing on ChexSystems, and no idea where to turn now. I've been forced to file a report with the CFPB, and have also involved the BBB. I can't remember ever having such a horrible experience with a financial institution. My suggestion? Steer clear. I get the feeling that their ploy is to tug at your heart strings and play to your beliefs system in order to have you overlook the glaring red flags of poor service. Something is seriously wrong with Aspiration Financial... don't be like me and ignore all of those bad reviews you see. You know what they say... if something seems to good to be true...

    Aspiration is horrible I understand not offering business services but what give you the right to STEAL FEDERAL PANDEMIC MONEY FROM YOUR CUSTOMERS!!! You have no right to do this to the many many American people that are stuck with money in your firm and you’ve locked them out and won’t give anyone any explanation why. I hope you understand the complaints that are mounting up into a class action lawsuit against your business.     YOUR MONEY IS NOT SAFE HERE

    I've had an Aspiration account for a few years,I've never had a problem until now. I had my PPP loan deposited and it seemed fine until a few days ago, they locked my account because of "suspicious activity." I replied to the email to try to resolve the problem and heard nothing so then I called to speak to someone and I was hung up every single time. They have their representatives read a script that says: "Aspiration is ceasing contact with you effective immediately" then they hang up. I called and asked to speak to a manger and no one would help. THIS IS ILLEGAL AND HORRIBLE to do to people.You cannot close the account and keep people's money! I have been sick with stress trying to figure out a way to access this money. I needed it from my loss during COVID-19. I am on my way to filing a class-action lawsuit.

    Aspiration bank is absolutely horrible. I received 10k from the SBA GRANT program. I emailed this bank 4 days prior to receiving this deposit I was assured and led to believe my funds would be fine and I’d be able to access. When the money hit the account I accessed 1k of it before they froze my account and it’s now pending closure. I sent them all documents proving my money is legal and legit and they still kept it locked. They decided to close my account because it doesn’t offer business services but however I received 2 PPP LOANS without any problems. They did not give me a chance to withdrawl my funds electronically before closing the account which I’m still locked out of and it’s still PENDING closure after 10 days that’s ridiculous they are taking advantage of people during this pandemic and gaining the interest of this money. This is a fraudulent company. I have emailed them numerous of times and they don’t respond. They have no legal reason whatsoever to hold my money. I’m ready to begin a class action lawsuit

    Locked Out & Exasperated

    I received an email notifying me that all three of my Aspiration accounts have been locked on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 12:14 PM. I had been steadily building my Redwood (REDWX) fund & currently have over 40 shares (40.234 I believe @ $18.21 per share, which equals $732.25) as of Friday, August, 27, 2021 & $3.10 in my Spend ($2) & Save ($1.10) accounts. Stunned, I tried logging into my account via the Aspiration app, which I regularly checked. It directed me to reply to the email I’d received to unlock my account. Upon doing so, my account was not unlocked; all I received was a case number of 3668566. I then phoned Aspiration & spoke to two agents who couldn’t give me an answer as to why I was locked out. Hugo (the second agent) gave me an equally curious & cryptic response, claiming that the reason why my account was locked was“privileged.” Privileged from the account holder? That made no sense and felt to me as if something was terribly amiss. To compound my misgivings, Hugo couldn’t give me a time frame as to when I could expect a response, much less a resolution from Aspiration. NEVER have I encountered such strange/cryptic behavior from a financial institution. At this point, I do not wish to do business with a company that arbitrarily locks me out of my account without a sufficient reason as to why and has not responded to my requests to close my account (I have made three thus far and phoned six times already and it seems that my number may be blocked since I get dead silence when ringing the number). I just want to CLOSE ALL ACCOUNTS, transfer the funds to my account on file OR mail a check of at least my $697.23 (or the current market value of my over 40 shares).

    I had my account for a couple of years without any issues. Then in May, I disputed a payment. It has been 3 months without any type of resolution. My dispute hasn't even been reviewed yet!! I closed my account since I no longer feel my money is safe.

    Aspiration seems to be a good bank. But they need to say what they mean and mean what they say. As far as this sign on bonus goes. 1. They say it takes 15 seconds to be approved for an account. *It took me a month and a half to be approved. 2. They say we have to get 1000$ in 60 days from when you started your account. *But they told me it's 60days from when your account is APPROVED not STARTED OR APPLIED. ( hence the month and a half) 3. They say we can expect bonus to be paid out in UP TO 120days from when account was OPENED. * I was told u don't get bonus until the 120th day exactly. From when your account is APPROVED not STARTED. Y'all need to get that together.

    The worst bank I've ever dealt with

    The worst bank I've ever dealt with. For the past week you can't even login to your account. On a phone you get "API ERROR" on a desktop you get to the login screen and it just continuously reloads the page. No way to enter in your information. Stay clear from this scam bank! In response to their response: I did call in and they said they only allow access from within the US and suggested to use a VPN. Very bad engineering in my opinion and only allowing log in from within the US was a recent undisclosed change and poorly implemented as site simply doesn't function if logging in from outside the US. Phone app just gives API error and website repeatedly reloads the login screen. Doesn't instill confidence in a place that is holding your money. Just read the other reviews here to see the continuous problems people have with this bank.

    This isn’t humane or right. It’s illegal….

    My mother has only been with Aspiration for like 2 weeks. She figured she could trust them, she’s a little older so, they’re “promotion” looked promising. Looking at these reviews now, is the saddest thing. My mother has health issues & she put her funds on their because she was moving down here with me, for me to take care of her. They said it would be a 72 hour “unlock” to get her funds. It’s been over 72 hours. She’s supposed to come down here tomorrow. We’ve already filed 3 lawsuits with different people this whole year, and not trying to go down that route again but we will DEFINITELY be filing a lawsuit if my mother doesn’t get a response in the morning. This is insane. You shouldn’t be taking advantage of people. She has medical bills to pay, she worked her ass off for that money. Hearing her cry and not knowing what to do is adding nothing but more stress to her. This doesn’t make sense. Hopefully she has access to her funds in the morning or get someone who helps her when she calls in the morning. This is illegal. This is sad. My mom doesn’t deserve this. We’re in a pandemic & this isn’t right? I seen someone say they reached out after posting a review here. So if this doesn’t help, I guess another lawsuit it’ll be.

    Aspiration is CRIMINAL! SPREAD THE WORD!

    Aspiration locked me out of my account 3 weeks ago. No warning, no explanation. Just locked out. Customer service team knows nothing and you cannot get in contact with the review board. I've been reading hundreds of reviews from people that this has happened to and they are locking these accounts for months. If you have been affected by Aspiration's shady business practices get on twitter and start retweeting and sharing. I am calling out their CEOs and bringing it to the attention of media outlets. This so called "ethical" bank is ruining lives and it has to stop. Follow badmoodleather and spread the word or start tweeting at them yourself. They can't get away with this theft forever.

    This company is a down right crooked and a scam, please don't open an account with this company something is very wrong and unprofessional about this bank. I have transferred money from my external bank to this account and this company has locked my account and wont give me my money back. I have called over 30 times and either got no one or an unprofessional so called supervisor who has been unable to help me.     This company does not care about people or protecting your account , money or personal information. Over 600 dollars was stolen from my account. I disputed it and they denied it let me give you the details. I live in the Bronx I use Apple Pay and I’ve only used an atm once and it was an all point atm that they told me to use. My card was used on a Sunday 830 in the morning at a chase bank atm , which I don’t even have an account with them. And you don’t even need to use a pin to use these debit cards all you have to do is press that little yellow button. IM SO DISGUSTING THIS WONT BE MY LAST REVIEW OF THIS COMPANY. I will continue to tell my story.

    I'm in the same boat I see so many people are here because of this sorry company. They are thieves no other name for them except crooks. Nope they don't invest in gas companies nope they just steal everything and locked ur account with no reason why. Prolly lost it all in Vegas that's how they invest all our money. How do they let 4large purchases on June 22 made to Alibaba go though. Nothibg suspicious about that.....The did Denie 1 of the charges once but then let if ho through. I tried calling them but they were closed so sent an email and called at least one a day pressed 8 for call back sat on. Hold never spoke to anyone only that email. 6 days later told no error on my account no unauthorized charges. I had to contact Alibaba myself to get them to say no wasn't me I never had an account soon as they reopened my case and fi gave them Alibaba statement account gets locked. Emailing every day or calling finally told july 27 have Answer for me I received the money but account still locked and case still open could lose money again. No update yet no answer as why my account is locked no answer on when this will be over. Just took all my money everything I have gave no reason why I'm the victim. Some one else hackex my account was able to make few charges very easily I may say using the virtual card number not my debit card. How is this possible and I'm being punished. Im in process of speaking with a lawyer on my options this company had to face some kind of punishment.     Piling on with everybody else. I have been working with a supervisor on a situation where aspiration failed to pay me out a promotion. We got that straightened out, but next thing you know they locked my account. Extremely shady and fishy. They didn't want to give me the promotional payout until I provided screenshots indicating I was in the right. But then they locked my account so I can't get the promotional balance. Will be reporting to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and my local attorney general. Customer service acts like they can't do anything and it's apparently my fault. I've actively been communicating with them, verifying my identity and my activity while we worked this issue out. Locking my account is merely a ploy to avoid paying funds. Updated: I contacted support and still the same old. "We have no further information to share" while my bank account is held hostage.

    I had definitely been hesitant to join a neobank with no brick & mortar locations, but I'm definitely glad that I did. I have no reason to walk into a physical bank, I have access to ATMs without any fees all over the place, and I can do all my banking on my computer or phone (like we do everything else). And now I'm banking with an institution that reflects my values - it's important that my deposits aren't going to corporate activities I don't support.

    My debit card information was stolen and Aspiration quietly emailed me in the middle of the night to inform me my transaction was not fraudulent months later. According to Aspiration, I can teleport, I guess? Edited to respond to Aspiration: I’ve tried. Your “customer service” department has been completely unhelpful and whomever is “investigating” need simply look at my address on file to know I don’t live in the state of the transaction.     I've been with Aspiration since 2017 and so far have been a happy customer, but something really strange has been going on with their company lately. Last month I noticed that the mobile application isn't working (giving an error message when I click the "log-in" button), so I contacted customer service. Within a few days a received a response that seemed auto-generated suggesting a few things to try, which I of course had already tried to no avail. I responded with screenshots of the issue and was told that my complaint would be forwarded to the operations team. Now, a few weeks later, the app still has not been updated and is still useless. After reading many reviews of people with similar experiences going back almost 2 months, I had a funny feeling and decided to sell all my Redwood Fund shares and pull the money out completely, which turned out to be a wise choice, because now the log-in page on their website seems to be broken and indefinitely refreshes, not allowing me to log-in. I was able to force stop the refreshes and try logging in, but was met with a message that my account has been locked and I need to respond to the recent email from customer support... but I haven't received any messages from them. Everything about this is extremely shady and totally unacceptable for a financial institution. After seeing how many others are having similar issues, I'm starting to think that something criminal is going here.

    I opened my account early December last year and everything has been fine until I received a large deposit they locked my accounts and I haven’t had access since 6/14 here it is 7/27 and I still have no update or anything I’m sure this corporation is stealing from us and I was all for Aspiration’s mission at first but now hundreds of customers maybe even thousands are going through this big gap in there life with aspiration.     I am wondering whether Asperation is a criminal enterprize. Please read all the detailed 1-star reviews. All the 5-star reviews are short and vague, probably written by employees. The 1-star reviews say that Aspiration kept the money that was deposited. My experience with Asperation was that someone stole my identity, opened an account in my name at an Atlanta bank, then transferred money to Asperation. When I called Asperation (hours long wait), I was told that they would investigate the situation. When I asked when they would reply to me, I was told that they would investigate internally but not let me know the results. I said that that approach did not comply with the procedures required by the Federal Trade Commission, and the person on the phone said, "Hello? Hello? I can't hear you," and hung up. I'm laughing at the four recent 5-star reviews, all written within an hour of each other and all nearly identical. My favorite is "JB"s comment "great customer service." Hahaha! There are only two ways to communicate with Aspiration: email and phone. If you email the company, you will receive a reply telling you to phone the company. If you phone the company, you will be put on hold for hours and hours. If Aspiration does not wish to communicate with you, they will block your calls. Yeah, that's "great customer service."

    I opened a checking account with them in Feb 2021 and made an initial deposit of 2K and set up recurring deposits of 1K. They locked my account the day after opening due to security concern and even though I have submitted the requested documentation from their team months ago I still have not been able to get my funds back. I have reported the bank to CFPB and also sent them a legal notice but have not had any concrete update from them. The company is highly unethical in its business operations and their customer service is non-existent with hour-long waits.

    Aspiration is unethical and cares nothing about it's customers

    My story is pretty much the same as all of Aspiration's other victims here. I received a PPP loan and the first draw posted without a hitch. No problems there but around the time I was due to get the second draw, I had claimed some suspicious transactions and once they were settled, my account was unlocked and I was sent a new card. 3 days after I activated this card, Aspiration froze my account and refuses to correspond with me about why this has happened and gives me no information whatsoever as to what I can do to regain access to my account. My business is suffering and my family is doing without because these people think they have the right to snatch up my funds and just shoot me the bird as they maintain this unethical policy that is plaguing almost anyone who has entrusted them to handle their money. It's been 2 months and my account remains frozen with no end to this nonsense in sight. I need my account back now and it seems no one can/will help me. Update- Although I can't seem to contact them to work out whatever problem is keeping me out of my account, they sure replied to my review with a generic, bot-generated response quick. Maybe they think they will save face by doing that or make me look like I'm being unreasonable or impatient but I'm pretty sure we are all in agreement that Aspiration is lying to us and they're robbing us blind because we can't do anything about it. If I'd known this bank (or whatever it really is) had any vague connection to the Clintons I would never have given them a penny.

    Member since 2017,they took a terrible turn recently

    I've been with Aspiration since 2017 and was so happy with them until July 2021. I've previously had to call in to support if I'm doing a wire transfer or have a question about my account and didn't have any issues. However, at the beginning of July I needed to call in and in between hold music a recording said they were busy and I could request a call back, so I did that. After half an hour I called back in and waited on hold for a customer service rep for FOUR HOURS before I gave up because I knew their support closed at 6PST and it was a few minutes past. I sent an email while I was on hold as well thinking someone would get back to me. The next night I received a call back and the rep was confused and told me she couldn't help me. I asked to speak with someone else. I'm put on hold, she comes back on after a while and informs me I will not have access to my account. I ask if I can just transfer my funds to another linked bank account and I'm told no, I cannot. This account cannot be closed and the funds must remain with Aspiration. But I cannot access them. No reason was given, she said she didn't understand why. I've tried, unsuccessfully, to reach someone almost every single day since then. It's now 7/23 and I'm pretty convinced they've just decided to steal my money. I feel awful as I've recommended this bank to friends and family for years and now I'm in this situation and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do to get my money. EDIT: After looking through other reviews it seems this is just how they do business now. People complain on here about their accounts being frozen or their money stolen and it's the same canned response from Aspiration. I'm now 100% sure they've just decided to take my money and I'll start working towards getting in touch with some regulatory agencies to find a remedy. ANOTHER EDIT: Shortly after I posted the review I was contacted by a customer service agent who informed me everything was fine with my account and I have access to my funds. I had a deposit sent to me that I have a receipt for that still hasn't made it to my account and the agent created a support ticket for that as well so I feel a little better but all in all it took forever to just get in touch with someone and probably only because I posted a review here.

    I bet it makes them feel good to give their employees $25 an hour. Especially when Aspiration locks your account with every penny to your name in it, for 5 months and counting. This is the same account they opened with false information (due to a ss # typo) that wasn't noticed until a password needed to be reset several months later that I brought to their attention. Yet, even with all the correct documents it's now been 5 months and can't be told ANYTHING about the account that's "under review" because their "security team" will send an email when they have any information. At least it's refreshing knowing that some lucky worker can have 17 weeks working 40 hours a week with the money they've held hostage...

    They are not truthful

    I joined Aspiration three months ago, and have been willing to give it a chance. I've had questions I sent by email and called and heard back from them weeks later. ZIt didn't say anything anywhere about a yearly charge when I signed up, but I agreed to pay $7 a month and was shocked when they debited my account by $72 on top of that. I went into my payment history and the it says I am still too new to have a payment history. I told them I want to cancel my account and they said all I have to do is reverse my transfer, but that didn't work either. I also tried unlinking my bank account, but it won't allow me to do that either. After reading all these reviews, I'm not even going to bother contacting them again. I'm simply going to tell my bank I no longer authorize any debits to Aspiration.

    Agreed this is the worst financial adviser ever. The only way they are helping you make money is by keeping you from being able to access it. Such a joke. I called going on 6 weeks ago to see why my account was locked. I was told that Aspiration was ceasing communication with me and hung up. So while they keep the $17,275.01 of my money in there account and making interest off those funds keep in mind. They are going to take as long as they want to to return the funds. This is crazy they have done this. I have retained an attorney to file a lawsuit in the courts as well as arbitration with punitive damages. I was told 6 weeks ago by Aspiration customer service that if the funds were not returned in 10 business days then I could call back on that 10 day and have the process expedited. This was a lie it has been 30 business days as of now and still not a thing has been done except still being charged the monthly service fees. Please contact me if you have had similar experiences as I would like you to sign my petition to the courts along with your contact info to possible be a victim and character witness in this lack of business ethics in Aspiration's business practices. Now any time I call from a number other than mine, all I get is that statement; "Aspiration is ceasing communication with you." Then I am abruptly hung up on. So there us no way to have the process expedited. I will say this with large amounts of money held in people's accounts and also still charging the agreed monthly donation even when the customer has no access to there account, Aspiration is in turn making money hand over fist with interest and also the monthly donation agreed apon when signing up. Suggestions if you are stuck like I am with your account locked. Contact the loan agency or who ever processed your loan application and ask them to put in a reversal request of the remaining funds to Aspiration. With Aspiration making so much money off holding your money there is no sense of urgency with them returning it and can hold it for up to 2 years before it is returned. Sir you send this response that my account is under review. Well read the notes before you look like dweeb. I have gotten 2 emails 1 saying my account was locked and 2 saying the funds were being returned, Aspiration is ceasing communication with me, and closing my account.     I wrote a previous review but don’t remember my log in, so here goes my last update. I was locked out of my accounts for 6.5 weeks. All the while being told how sorry they were and for me to be patient. Most times my calls weren’t returned or emails answered. I filed with the BBB but that’s a long process. So I figured I’d take it to the top and googled who owned the bank. I found Andrei Cherny and Joseph Sanberg on Twitter and started making comments on their posts about my situation and how unethical they were. Got a message within an hour from a rep saying they could take care of it. I was skeptical because I’d heard this before. That evening I got a message my accounts were unlocked…and they were.     They froze my account barely 2 days after I received my unemployment backpay. I went thru months of verifying my identity, adjudication, and claim reviews, just to have this bank steal my benefits. Even after sending them all the documents they requested, they said they were closing my account. That was 81 days ago. They have still not closed my account or sent the balance by check to me, as they claimed. They have blocked me from calling them, as well as blocked contact on Twitter. They are doing this to hundreds of their customers. This company is not to be trusted whatsoever. They don't follow through on bonus offers, and use bait & switch tactics. They lock your account, never give you a valid explanation, never give you answers or follow-up, remove your access, block you from contacting them, and don't return your money. Aspiration Financial is nothing but thieves and con artists using the environment as a ploy to rob their customers. To your reply: I sent the email to support, just like I have many other times. Haven't received a single reply to any of those emails, so you can quit with the "concerned" act. A concerned business wouldn't block their customers from calling, block them on Twitter and ignore all their emails.

    Aspiration promises cash bonuses with specific terms then withholds payment at their leisure. They promise card benefits which they do not fulfill. They randomly deduct money from the account and do not timely correct. They do not fulfill their obligations of buyer protection. Many of these problems are due to their well-publicized financial difficulties. Staffing is one obvious casualty -- it used to be possible to at least reach someone in under an hour but now it takes 2 and that is no exaggeration -- and it's interesting how they have gone to the extent of taking money from customer accounts. Every ticket is responded to by a different person each time and they don't read the history. Aspiration promised a number of cash bonuses: for signup, Plus membership, and direct deposit. None showed up on time. One they explicitly promised (once already late) would be there on a certain date, didn't, then when I called they said they would "get to it when they got to it". The other they arbitrarily extended the payment deadline supposedly as a bonus for their delay in getting cards to customers (I'd had my card for ages). I was ripped off by Bloomberg News, which I timely canceled and due to their Web site malfunctioning followed up using Bloomberg's own alternate email procedures. Preserved mail server logs and signed proof-of-mailing timestamps from a third-party service. Provided all these to Aspiration (they lost track several times as noted). Aspiration sat on this, never communicated with me, then at the end of the time period "resolved" this against me without addressing any of the evidence whatsoever. They have the laughable "conscience coalition" which is supposed to give 10% back. That is not granted. Further, they randomly charged the monthly membership once a day, every day, until the account was empty. Reported this, finally got a response, still not fixed days later. Their schtick is the environment. They answer every call with "how can I help save the planet", ha. When I signed up I was supposed to get some recycled plastic card, but they mailed an ordinary "bad" plastic card then immediately followed up with the special card. I even told them I could wait. Some services randomly are only available through one user interface or the other. I really wanted to like Aspiration but they fail in every conceivable way. I am reporting them to regulatory authorities.

    They stole my money

    They stole my money. Over a month ago (so I have given them time to attempt to resolve) my account was somehow compromised. I received an email informing me that my email was updated. This is strike number one. When handling, not only money but also sensitive information, you need to be able to create multi factor authentication for things like this. I called them roughly 7 hours after the email arrived, immediately after seeing it (it happened at midnight. Checked my email at 7am). For 'security' reasons they locked me out of my account for a little over 3 weeks. Constant calling and emailing to see what was going on (they did *not* tell me they were about to do that) yielded nothing, not any response or explanation. When I finally was allowed into my account, all of my money was *still* gone after they told me they knew it was fraud. I had to re-report the fraud and, two weeks later, they say they have not gotten to it. Customarily, the money is returned to your account during the investigation and if it was deemed a legitimate transaction, withdrawn. Nope, they still have my money, no progress, no Customer Service assistance, blocked on Twitter, hung up on by the Customer Service. I am lucky that I have other accounts and only used this one for certain bills and was able to - mostly - maintain my life without this money (despite it being theft on them). However, through looking at other's experiences, this is not uncommon. Stay away from them. You're better off putting you money under your mattress. It's safer there too.

    The only reason why I gave it one star because I want to write a review. First and for most. The people who claim to save the planet is really scheming people. The fact that they go about changing your account number with out your permission seem like a scam. Have the nerve to send you and email claiming it was fraud going on when it wasn't. The reps will lie to you claiming that your information is not in the system so you have to email them. I have sent over 200 emails (literally) when it comes to my money I'm not going to play about my money. I'm glad I canceled my direct deposit because this so called save the planet bank is a scam and I will sue if I have to , to get my money. Everything is coming together now I dont think no one tried to hack my account. I think this company is watching re-accurent deposit and see who is loyal with it. Claim the account number has been change just to keep your money. Ummmmmmm not me so I believe I night have to go to court for this i will get my money back. Shame on you aspiration this is why your trying so hard to get new customers but It won't happen. I hope people read this review and know this so called aspiration is a fraud. They should get a regular account or choose a way better prepaid card like chime which is awesome great company who has treated me well and know the value of customer service.

    Horrible company, let alone bank.

    Horrible customer service, is currently holding my "posted" direct deposit of over $300 hostage and customer service is not helpful. Also changed my account numbers and debit card with no notice. Support hold times of at least an hour, with really bad hours. Good luck reaching them, or even having them fix the issue.

    They locked my account after I called and told them someone hacked into my account after I saw that my email was modified. They told me they'd take care of it and I would hear back soon. This happened May 22nd. This will be one straight month of being locked. I called over a dozen times and they all tell me the same thing. I'm sorry but they're still working on it. What are they doing? They can't tell me. Can I speak to someone in the security department? No. I'm lucky I'm not completely screwed because I had worked significant over time so I am able to keep up for now. Is is unacceptable. How is this legal? This is insanity. I have reported them to the FTC and the BBB. What's next, the white house? Looking for a lawyer. Run away. Don't open an account with them. You'll regret it. UPDATE: called one final time and one individual told me the same thing. aaccount is locked and they can't help. I lost it big time, berated the company and asked how this was destroying me emotionally and financially. The guy put me on hold, the came back and said the account has been reactivated permanently. What? No explanation. Just like that. Activated. After a week of additional calls I had removed all my money via wire transfer and they mailed me my IRA. Adding my bank to ACH the money wasn't possible.

    I’m in the same situation I’ve been struggling ever since this whole COVID thing started got laid off but got unemployment then they cut me off completely for months without an answer got kicked out the house because I had no income so Ive been living in my car ever since last year hiding from tow trucks and cops cause car notes insurance phone bill credit card bill all of it blew up in my face and finally I heard about ppp loans and saw my chance to get my life back on track because I was an independent contractor so I qualified application and all was completed and submitted so I called all of the numbers I’ve been ignoring and let them know I was going to pay all my bills then ten days later it was deposited into aspiration and I had no choice because all of my original banks got closed now I had opened this account months prior and used it for deposit from gigs I worked never any problems but and soon as the loan hit and I started moving money around paying people back my account got locked first second and third time was easy Just call confirmation and back into my funds this happen three days in a row now the fourth Time was on the 8 no reason at all I called from 8am all the way till 3pm and finally got through then they tell me they can’t say or tell me anything about my account so I asked to speak to a manager or someone that could answer my questions and he tells me managers don’t speak to customers I couldn’t believe what I was hearing from this dude I lost all patients and and told him to let me speak to some one else that would understand my simple question then a lady gets on and was very polite and said she would transfer me right away so I’m on hold for hours it was already 6 pm when I borrowed my nephews phone to call again and found out that they closed at four she transferred me 5 -10 mins before they closed been calling every day since and still no answer if I knew that these were investors I never would have trusted them with so much money one of the so called managers hung up on me because I asked if they just wanted to hold on to the money to build interest for their own gains while pretending to Care about customers and the planet sorry but that’s just how I see it from their actions and no response worst place ever. And I will get reimbursement for all these new recent late fees just writing this is pissing me off stop f-Ing with peoples money.

    This is Frustrating, i have been calling and sending email to Aspiration concerning my locked account.. (They will lock your account for no reason) why do you have to do this to my account? (I never complained about my account to you guys) i have opened my account since 2018, but right now i can't advice anyone to use or bank with Aspiration .. the customer care will put you on hold and they will never get back to you again.. DON'T USE THIS CARD! UPDATE! 07/02/2021 i have called many times , and i have sent email each time, but no response.. they are holding my money in the account for no reason!     My acct has been frozen since June 3rd. After hundreds of calls and emails my acct was unfrozen on June 12th. They stated that there was fraud to my acct and gave me new acct #, new digital card #, And new debit card. Well needles for say I’ve had issues with my acct since and as of yesterday June 15th, they froze my acct again. And now stating that they have ceased all communication with me. I call and they hang up, no response to emails. They have all of my funds. I will be reporting them to the BBB AND GOING EVERYWHERE TO LET EVERYONE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.     Absolutely awful

    I received an email last week saying that there was a security breach on my account and that I had been issued a new account. My credit card payment that I had made prior to this event was returned and I was charged a return fee as well as a late fee for not being able to make my payment on time. The new account information provided doesn't work, and neither does the digital card that was supposedly active. When I called the VIP hotline that was provided I was told that my verifying information didn't match what was on file, and I needed to call customer service. I have attempted to call several times, sent multiple emails, and haven't received a response. It blows my mind that a bank can be so negligent. I have filed a complaint with the BBB.

    Aspiration Bank is fraudulent, unprofessional, fake, and vicious! They froze my account for what has been a month, no one answers the phone, they do not return calls and no one will help. They freeze your money for an extended period of time. Then they have this fake pre-recorded supervisor call, that I never seem to get. They have caused financial distress and undue pain.     Although they advertise with environmental platitudes that make it seem as if they are some kind of morally superior banking product, the fact is that they are not even a real bank. The reviews here from people whose accounts have been Locked and inaccessible should be a warning that you should heed. This is not what happened to me, as I was scared to put more than a bit of funds in because of apprehension regarding their Legitimacy. I had a minor issue and tried to contact customer service and I was on hold for almost three hours. Then they put on a message to say to call back? This is absolutely unacceptable. I had an authorisation hold drop off but the money never reverted back into my account! Then I tried to unlink my external bank account and it wouldn’t allow me to? I finally got some customer support via email after several unsuccessful phone attempts. Bottom Line is that there are enough glaring and egregious red flags, both from my and others’ experiences, documented here, that should give you pause.

    There are better options out there

    I’ve used this bank for several years and have had repeated issues with poor customer service and fraud issues. They need to increase security and update their fraud protections. Currently they notify you by email that they have closed your accounts and frozen your cards. They assure you that all pending transactions will be honored and posted in the new account. They issue a virtual debit card. This has sadly happened to me three times during my time with them. Each time I have had to call repeatedly and escalate my issues to management. They are polite on the phone but refuse to resolve any concerns. I’ve had transactions bounce, have never received a new debit card without multiple phone calls, and also have to call to get them to correct direct deposits. They tell me that they will get routed to the new account, that doesn’t happen, and management happily tells me each time that it will certainly be fixed by tomorrow. Bank is otherwise fine. Basic services. Nothing to write home about. But truly lousy customer service, and no brick and mortar building to visit when something by goes wrong. I would encourage you to find a better keeper of your money.

    This bank is withholding my money after changing all my bank account numbers and debit card (multiple times). I have been on hold for THREE DAYS. They are the WORST. No customer service. Will be reporting to BBB and more. Absolutely appalling business. DO NOT BANK WITH THEM. My stress levels are through the roof as I'm just a small one person business. I also love how it took me over 3 days to reach a person, and they still haven't resolved the problem, yet it took them all ove 10 minutes to respond to this review. Where are your priorities??!?!     Everything was great--until I actually had to make a serious transaction. (Cashing out my mutual fund.) First, the site would only let me cash out 65%. Then, it told me that my linked external account needed to be relinked--even though Aspiration was still drawing funds from it. Once the first transaction went through, I tried to cash out the rest, only to get a message that it couldn't be done online. I called, waiting on hold for 45 min, then caved to a callback offer that would keep my place in life. Ha. I got a voicemail 6 hrs later (really?) from a person who I literally could not understand, I had to play the message three times. This is a financial services firm? You've got to be kidding.
