TruStage life insurance is ideal for families that are members of a credit union. It’s suitable for credit union members who don’t yet have life insurance and may have been putting off arranging it, either out of fear that they won’t qualify for insurance or out of nervousness about going through the process.
TruStage doesn't require you to have a medical exam in order to buy any of its life insurance products, although you do need to share medical and prescription records. Its Guaranteed Whole Life Insurance policy means that no one needs to worry about dying without insurance, no matter your state of health, although it's important to know that you'll only get a limited amount of benefits if death occurs as a result of suicide within 2 years of purchase.
Applying for a TruStage life insurance product can begin by answering a few basic questions online, and if you live in one of the states covered by TruStage, you can complete the process online in as little as 10 minutes. TruStage still requires customers from other areas to speak to an agent over the phone or through live chat to complete the process.
You’ll be asked your zip code, age, and gender as a preliminary, but you’ll need to share more details about whether or not you smoke, your weight, pre-existing medical conditions, and family medical history. You don’t need a medical exam to apply for TruStage life insurance, although you will be asked to share your prescription records instead. If you do take a paramedical exam through TruStage and your health is good, you’ll probably be able to access lower premiums.TruStage offers to notify you about pre-approval through email or over live chat immediately, and your coverage begins as soon as you start making payments, so there’s no need to wait for your life insurance to become active.
You can apply for term life insurance from age 18 up till age 69, with coverage lasting until age 80. Application for whole life insurance is open to customers aged 18 to 85, and guaranteed whole life insurance to those aged between 45 and 80. You can buy child whole life insurance for a child from birth.
TruStage offers 3 types of life insurance policy:
Term life insurance is available for up to 55 years and to a maximum of $100,000, although you can request higher amounts of insurance over the phone. It’s renewable every year, with premiums increasing every 5 years in fixed bands from age 25 to 80. Typical premiums begin at $4.80 per month.
Whole life insurance is offered from $1,000 to $100,000 for a fixed monthly price up until age 85. TruStage promises that once you buy your policy, the price never goes up and your coverage never decreases, no matter what happens to your health along the way.
Guaranteed Acceptance Whole Life Insurance has important differences from Whole Life Insurance. Your acceptance is guaranteed provided you are aged between 45 and 80. Guaranteed Acceptance Whole Life Insurance is available without medical exam, and you can’t be turned down because of medical conditions. Your rates also never go up as long as you pay your premiums. But if death occurs due to natural causes within the first two years, beneficiaries will only receive premiums paid with an additional 10% added. Suicide deaths within the first two years only return premiums paid until that point.
TruStage doesn’t share exactly what it requires for you to be eligible for any of its life insurance policies, but naturally, your acceptance and the amount you’ll have to pay depend on your gender, tobacco use, weight, and state of health.
Renewable term life insurance policies for adults from age 25 to 80
Whole life insurance for adults aged 18 to 85
Whole life insurance for children
Guaranteed acceptance whole life insurance for adults aged 45-80
Acceptance depends on your age, weight, gender, medical condition, and medical history
TruStage has a security badge from Entrust and all of your private information is secured through SSL encryption. You can make payments online through the TruStage secure payment server. TruStage shares its security and privacy policies and is committed to safeguarding your information. You can feel certain that your details will only be shared with TruStage’s partners who need your information to underwrite your policy.
TruStage has a very comprehensive website that’s full of information, but some of the details you really need to know are tucked away and hard to find. TruStage does have an FAQ section although it doesn’t cover all of the questions we had. Customer support is available through email, phone, and live chat, and there's also an online web form and a fax number. Telephone support has a toll free number 1-855-591-9026 and is manned from 7am - 9pm CT, Monday to Friday and Saturdays from 8am - 4pm.
As long as you're a member of a credit union or someone in your family is a member, TruStage is a good address for life insurance. It offers both term and whole life insurance, and for anyone with preexisting medical conditions, it's an assured way to get life insurance. The fact that there's no obligation to have a medical exam in order to qualify is a bonus, but the guaranteed whole life insurance only pays out in full in the first 2 years, and rates overall are relatively high. If you're in good health and don't mind getting a medical exam, you might find lower premiums elsewhere.
