Application Process

The process of applying for a term life insurance policy through Lemonade is fully online. You’ll need to answer questions about your health history and lifestyle, as well as your age, employment status, and income. The questions are detailed, but most have yes or no answers or allow you to choose from a list of options. You have the option to choose your policy term and coverage, and if your application is accepted, Lemonade will provide a quote. Once you’ve settled on a policy, you can pay online, and your policy will take effect right away.

Policy Types and Terms

Lemonade offers term life insurance policies only—not whole life insurance policies. Terms of 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 years are available, and coverage amounts range from $50,000 to $1.5 million. All policies issued by Lemonade are underwritten by the North American Company for Life and Health Insurance.

Policies start at $9 per month. We had one user test the experience, and after completing the Lemonade Life application, the self-described healthy 30 year-old female/male living in Washington was offered a premium of $22.46 per month for a 20-year policy term and coverage of $250,000.

    Trying to file a claim!

    I am currently in the process of trying to see if I could file a claim for some damage, but the app experience to file is not convenient or flexible enough for my case. Tried contacting Lemonade through various channels, their main phone line is a dead-end, simply no response/dead air after an initial message, tried contacting via chat, no real person only an AI bot. I do get emails after using the app and leaving chat messages, saying someone will contact me, but none so far. This customer experience alone is not worth the savings they offer. If you do have some issues/claims needing their attention, I don't think they are capable of actually transacting and handling claim cases. That to me is bordering on fraud. At minimum they should be required to have live agents available. I will be looking into sharing this experience on other social media platforms to help other potential customers make an informed decision before signing up.

    Do NOT waste your time with this company!

    Please do not choose any insurance products from Lemonade if you actually care about your home, items, or pets being covered in a true emergency. Sure, you can sign up for insurance super quickly, a little too easily through their automated system, and get a decent price for a monthly payment, but in reality all you're doing is lining an unethical corporation's pockets. When it comes to that unfortunate day you actually need to use the insurance and make a claim, expect a full run around. For one, you cannot speak with a human being to save your life. Everything is through their AI "assistant" on the app. The claims process is strange, does not cover all the possible requests, you are unable to speak with a human, you have to record videos of yourself, very strange, detached process that is clearly poising the company in a position to deny your claim. I ended up deleting the claim because it would not let me claim loss of use in an emergency situation that required prompt turn around time. Instead the app would only let me claim damaged items, the least of my concern since only a few towels got damaged but the apartment had become temporarily unlivable and the landlord was not responding, so I needed to make a claim for loss of use for a place to stay. The process seemed so sketchy that I reached out to customer service via email (the only option) and after a few frustrating days trying to get an empathetic and qualified human being on the phone, I cancelled the policy. The customer service rep was rude, dismissive, inappropriately informal, unhelpful in the situation, said nothing of substance or value, and encouraged me to cancel. I finally got a supervisor by request... still only through email, who expanded on Lemonade's claims process, pretty much stating it is the way it is and then encouraging me to cancel, confirming it being impossible to reach somebody, being unable to process a claim with a licensed agent, the disinterest in the emergency situations of their customers, the likelihood a claim would be denied anyway, the reimbursement nature of the policy, the sketchy fine print, all of it. I went through with the cancel. I looked further at the reviews on the app store and BBB and it is a very clear consensus that this company is shady and will go above and beyond to NOT protect you, pets, or property in a time of need. I need rental insurance that provides actual piece of mind, so I will be going with a larger, more established company, not one that uses an exacerbated AI process, who cannot process a claim efficiently, and who never pay anything out to the insured who are paying in, touting bogus excuses as to why. It's a shame how this company is preying upon lower income households and younger people, their clear target audience. Notice the good reviews here were largely invited by Lemonade themselves...

    Pet Insurance Scam with excellent hyped up marketing

    I recently joined Lemonade Insurance due to the rave published reviews and ratings. Although I don’t know anybody personally that has this insurance, I took a leap of faith that the advertising is accurate and not a mere scam. Unfortunately my pup; teddy got sick with a multitude of issues. Lemonade somehow found a way to deny the initial claim stating “all” the symptoms were experienced before my pup's waiting period. This was despite detailed documentation from an emergency room stating otherwise. The second claim was ignored completely despite detailed medical records and diagnostic data sent to them several times. My inquiries and concerns left unanswered with complete and utter unapologetic apathy towards my suffering furry family member, my best friend. Everything I read about Lemonade Insurance company was the exact opposite of what I experienced.

    Like any other insurance company

    Policies are super misleading (I don't know why I expect any different with an insurance company) and my claim wasn't accepted. The email responses were patronising and the emails actually made me feel like they were mocking what happened to me. At the end of the day they're like any other insurance company, who don't care about their customers whilst they make a 94 million USD revenue. It's just this company really concentrated on their marketing and user interface for their website to entice you in.

    Toilet water not Lemonade

    We just purchased a home a few months ago, I found Lemonade on the internet, I got a quote right away and had the house insured within 15 minutes, the experience was great, that was the end of that, I just received a letter saying we no longer fit their underwriting guidelines, its only been a month don't you think they should know what their guidelines are before they insure someone? also they only gave me 15 days notice before cancelling my policy, I believe they are required to give 30 days. they are just another run of the mill insurance company 20% of the premiums go directly to their brokerage company which are protected from any claims or payout to their so called charities, te hey will insure you just to make their new customers look good for wall street, and then turn around and cancel you. tastes more like toilet water than Lemonade

    Absolutely the worst insurance company to do business with. Good luck trying to contact a "Live Agent"! After nearly a week of sending emails begging for a telephone number so that I may speak with a human, I finally made contact. Keep in mind that I only needed to change my credit card number because it had expired and was promptly informed that my new MasterCard could not be used for payment. Why?? ....because my new valid credit card was issued by the Federal Government by a bank that pays the entire nations monthly social security recipients their monthly check is considered... NOT VALID! Yes, you read that correctly. Okay...cancel my insurance then! Well, this proves the point that, "you get what you pay for!"

    I am completely pleased and grateful for all the help, support, and speedy responses I received from my rep at Lemonade. I got pet insurance because my daughter worked at a vet office and regularly saw fur babies come in where the owners had to make difficult decisions on the care of their pets when financially strapped. When it came time for me to get my very first puppy she helped me pick out pet insurance with Lemonade. Little did I know that at just 14 months he would develop genetic hip dysplasia and require surgery. I was able to move forward with his procedure knowing I could afford the deductible and coinsurance. I never expected to be reimbursed within one week of his surgery and the ap on my phone tracked everything. While he is not out of the woods yet, I am confident in making additional decisions on his care with Lemonade in the background. We immediately signed up his new baby sister for insurance, and have passed along accolades to every dog owner in the neighborhood. I also shared my experience with his vet, who commented that he is asked often about pet insurance, but never before heard such great things about this plan.     The app is incredibly user friendly, and easy to navigate. I've had some claims proved instantly, and others within an hour. Nearly every interaction with Lemonade staff has been personalized, in some cases even getting a direct call to check in on how our dogs are doing.     I was apprehensive about lemonade at first because it was new and went with a more known pet insurance. However, after having a terrible experience with the length of time for my claim, I switched to lemonade. It was the best decision I've made. The claims process is very easy and I received my payment fast. When the claims were more complicated they assigned a person that followed through via email and even called me to explain the coverage. It was a lot more than I expected. I am very happy and satisfied. I would recommend it to anyone I know.

    Submitted my first claim and it could not have been easier. The process provides a "pulldown" menu so it's pretty straight forward. After submitting my claim I was paid in less than a minute, actually I think it was like10 seconds, very fast! I had questions the next day and a team member contact me and took care of my concerns. My son has a different pet insurance and he is switching over to Lemonade.

    This is the first time I have ever used pet insurance. I didn't think I'd ever need it. Actually, we were in such a panic, I forgot about it. I turned in my paper work, which was incredibly easy and was instructed seamlessly along the way. It was far easier than any insurance I have EVER dealt with. Nikki, in particular was kind, compassionate and actually helped me deal with my grief a bit. Such kindness and customer service (which seem now to be mutually exclusive) does not exist outside Lemonade. I'm so thankful and highly recommend ANY one who has a pet to use their insurance services.

    Covering 2 recently adopted full sized huskies!

    We recently adopted 2 dogs. Being that I'm licensed in insurance, I've come to truly understand it's importance in all aspects of life. When I was looking for pet insurance, it was important to me to ensure our newest babies were fully covered and thankfully, Lemonade had provided us with just that. You never expect to need insurance, but man, when you do it's truly a blessing. We had to take one of our dogs in for an emergency appointment and being reimbursed for part of it was a God send at this time. The claims process was just as simple as described and they reimbursed us quickly even though I lagged behind on paperwork. My favorite part though, is that if you don't file a claim, part of those funds are donated to a charity that you choose!! As far as insurance companies go, that's pretty insane. Full coverage on 2 crazy hyper mischievous huskies to ensure that we can provide the absolute best care possible, um..yes please!

    I have subscribed to several pet insurance companies over the years. I cannot begin to tell you how thrilled I am to be working with Lemonade! Took my dog to the vet, came home and submitted my invoice (on my phone) and received a response shortly after saying my claim was approved. The refund was deposited directly to my bank account !     Insurance always gets a bad rap, so I didn’t have high hopes. I got a Lemonade renters policy 3 years ago. I had a box worth thousands stolen from my lobby and, after doing their due diligence and some comprehensive back and forth, they covered the contents. And they were incredibly kind, funny, and helpful throughout the process. After that experience I was sold. I got a puppy earlier this year and took out a pet policy with them. Another great choice! Their customer service has been excellent and they are always clear with their reimbursement decisions. It’s fast and the app makes filing a claim incredibly easy. They’ll even call my vet for me to get the records they need.

    Die Versicherung versucht alles um NICHT für den Schaden aufzukommen. Schaden wird nicht erstattet weil: war ein Unfall...WAS?! Wenn wegen einem Unfall die Bude abfackelt, seit ihr nicht Haftbar weil Unfall und somit nicht versichert, laut deren eigenen Aussage! Die Versicherung zahlt nicht einen Cent für den Schaden. Die schließen nach dem ersten Gespräch einfach den Fall und das war es. Am Ende wird einem einfach nur gesagt, Zitat: Wir stärken dir den Rücken". Versichert euch lieber bei einem seriösen Versicherer und lasst euch von denen nicht einlullen und bleibt hartnäckig!

And the AI asked me to upload myself video for claim my cat coverage. The service lady said it because they want to detect my bank information. Excuse me! My cat get sick why I need to verify my bank? Isn’t you verify the vet documents?

    I have 2 pets insured through lemonade. It's an awful service. The staff seem so confused. It's impossible to get even a covered claim reimbursed. They want you to jump through hoop after hoop just to hope you give up and forget the claim. Do not use this service. Banfield is significantly better. Kristen Dutczak on their Claims Experience Team offers horrendous customer service, lacks active listening and will go as far as defying the laws of physics to deny a claim. She's slow at claims response, she's a frustrating person and needs significant retraining.

    Lausiger Verein, hab einen Schadensfall gehabt und die Versicherung redet sich mit allen möglichen Ausreden raus um ja nicht bezahlen zu müssen. Da wird einem Vorgeworfen falsche Tatsachen zu verbreiten und Betrug zu begehen. Man soll beweisen das ein Schaden erst nach Versicherungsbeginn entstanden ist. Also beispielsweise ihr macht den Fernseher von eurem Kollegen versehentlich kaputt und ihr müsst dann beweisen das dieser nicht schon vor 4-5 Monaten kaputt war. Wie soll das funktionieren???? Ich habe sowas noch nie bei einem richtigen Versicherer erlebt welche auch noch günstiger sind im Beitrag!!!! Alles in allem werde ich einen Anwalt einschalten müssen und die Kosten dafür über einen Großen Versicherer ohne Probleme übernommen werden. Würde jedem davon abraten! Edit: eure Antwort ist in jeglicher Hinsicht genauso Lausig wie die Versicherung selber. Der Schaden ist nach Eintritt der Police eingetreten wie bereits 1000 mal erwähnt!!! Haftpflicht geht anders!!!

    Pet insurance is A SCAM!

    I fell for the trap of a nice app. Please don’t repeat my mistake. Used Lemonade as a renter but never filed a claim. This time I tried pet insurance and it was horrible. First off they require pledge of honesty and video footage, unheard for pet insurance and I doubt if this violates personality rights. After submitting the claim with invoices, authorized hospital to release info, 27 emails, and waiting for 3 weeks, they still wanted to talk to my vet before proceeding with the claim. At this point I think it’s time to call it bad faith: Lemonade is stalling for you to give up on claims. I submitted a complaint to CA Dept of Insurance but they don’t seem to care either. Stay away from this company.

    Poor experience with Lemonade Pet Insurance

    I got pet insurance after I adopted a dog, had to make a small claim and nothing has happened for over two months. I keep getting bot emails telling me they have a lot of claims and they will get to it soon. This company is a joke, going to cancel my policy - not only do I have to get the bill for something that should have been covered but I've also wasted hundreds of dollars paying for this and the stress of constantly reaching out (only to be told by a robot that they're sorry for my inconvenience).

    Don't go near this company - the absolute worst - they also just took the entire year from my account instead of monthly without my permission so dont trust them with your bank info - they are so unhelpful - shop some place else - when i asked them to rectify this they bascially said NO!

    Initially chose lemonade as my insurance company due to the appeal of the ease of signing up and ability to file claim through the app. Filed a claim and they waited two months before telling me the claim was denied. During that time I never heard a word from my so called claim rep. This place is a joke and will gladly take your money but pray you never have to file a claim, you'll be denied.

    Lemonade truly makes it incredibly easy (fun even!) to sign up and file claims. Really happy to be one of their customers and to have an alternative to traditional insurance companies which are a pain to deal with.

    Run, don’t walk away from this company. it is a joke. I’ve been paying these fools for over a year and had to file a theft claim. The claims process was a joke I mean, literally a joke. I can see there’s going to be litigation involved I can already tell. Their “AI” Claims process is woefully in adequate in almost every way. They expect you to have everything at your disposal, but don’t tell you what you need to have in front of you before starting the filing process and there’s no way to save the process to come back at a later date. There’s no way to talk to a real human being and if you call them, they say use the app. I’m sorry, the federal government needs to shut these people down, I’m really not sure they are an insurance company.

    I’ve been paying for three years. Now with my very first claim, it was denied after going through the motions of submitting all evidence, and video footage. It was disappointing to receive an auto-like response from them. I recommend going with a more established company. Lemonade will have you regretting your decision. 2 stars for the set up process, which was easy.

    Lemonade abandoned me for months

    Lemonade was not my insurer. They provided renter's insurance for one of my downstairs neighbors when I lived in an apartment earlier this year. My downstairs neighbor started a negligent kitchen fire in February, causing severe smoke damage to all our belongings. I dealt with all the right channels. Lemonade sent out an adjuster to estimate the damage. I had a company come out to give me a quote. I got the go-ahead from Lemonade to have my belongings treated. In May, my Lemonade claims adjuster asked if I wanted the check sent to me, or to have it sent directly to the restoration company. I said to send it to restoration company. The money never got sent. I received a past-due notice from the restoration company in August. I called Lemonade again to ask why they hadn't sent the check yet. They said that my "claims adjuster" was in a meeting and would call me back. She never called me back. I thought it would be taken care of this time. In October, I received another notice from the restoration company that they still had not gotten paid. They were now threatening to send the bill to a collections company, which would seriously impact my credit over a bill Lemonade agreed to pay months ago. I had to call Lemonade again. And the fire was in February (eight months ago) and Lemonade explicitly agreed to pay for everything in May (five months ago). It is beyond absurd that it has taken so long to get this resolved (and I still don't know if it is actually resolved this time!!). I felt like I was the one being punished for my neighbor's negligent cooking fire, which could have killed me (I literally got trapped on the fourth floor of a burning building) and made all my belongings reek. Absolutely unprofessional, disorganized, and unprincipled. I will avoid them like the plague for the rest of my life.

    This company is "fake AI based…

    This company is "fake AI based insurance" This AI/chatbot based is fake thing as eventually they direct questions to human customer service rep who takes 3 -4 days to get back every time. Have been spending almost 6-7 weeks to get policy cancelled on previous rental unit and they still keep charging, I told and got email confirmation for cancellation for 15th June as last covered day, they carried to 15th July, kept charging me and now said it was miscommunication on their part and to resolve I need to submit more proofs that the insurance was needed during this extra 1 month. Ridiculous. Also the new rental place quote I got was $5 higher than the one I got through Geico which eventually paired with Lemonade which gave lower quote so seems being a loyal customer doesn't get you cheaper quote but going through established companies they give lower. The premise of this insurance is AI so please don't give the reasons of COVID causing delay for resolution in email replies. I am tired of it. I can buy this reason from other insurance but not form Lemon.

    Belated thanks for great service

    This is a bit late but, back in January I ordered some gorgeous-looking trainers from Lemonade and was so looking forward to receiving them. A few days later I received an email to say there was likely to be a delay, of a couple of weeks, due to growing issues in China, and was asked if I was still happy to wait. I replied that I was happy to wait. A couple of weeks passed and I received another email from Lemonade saying that it was looking unlikely thar my trainers would be coming any tine soon, again, due to the China situation. I was offered the chance to have a full refund or a different pair of shoes and was provided with 4 pairs to choose from with full links to the images and they were all quite similar to the ones I wanted originally . I thought this was excellent customer service. Not only had I been communicated with, without a prompt from me, but I was so impressed by the thoughtful gesture of offering a close alternative. I chose an alternative pair of trainers and they arrived within 2 days AND Lemonade included a free pen too, to apologise for the delay. On top of that, the trainers were lovely - they looked exactly as they did in the online picture and they were SO comfortable. I meant to thank the lovely girls at Lemonade at the time, but events have taken over a bit. So, belated thanks. You do a great job.

    They're a cheap insurance, indeed. I signed up for their homeowner insurance almost two years ago, paid religiously and never had to file a claim until recently. Boy, do I regret ever considering them to insure me! The minute I filed my claim, there was just no one to be found. My claim was "pending" for several weeks and kept being thrown from one agent to another. I just got notified when my claim was being handled by a different agent, nothing concrete about my claim. I ended up having to cancel my insurance while my claim was still pending. I am happy I did and will happily never sign up for anything they're selling again.

    Honest advertising that matches expectation and use experience

    Been on board for more than a year now. Unbeatable low price and customizable options so you can cherry-pick exactly only the coverage you need. Super intuitive app and website and policy too! And the social charity donation is just the, shall we say, "lemon" on the cake. Havn't needed to file a claim yet but they give me enough in them. They say it's a millennial trap and I say they ain't wrong, but that's exactly what I like them for!

    I have had a policy with Lemonade since…

    I have had a policy with Lemonade since they launched. However, 5 days ago, in the middle of my policy term, they increased my premium, changed my deductibles, and lowered my coverage. I have called and emailed them for 5 days. The issue has not yet been resolved. Now when I call, I get 10 minutes of hold time, followed by a suggestion to leave a message or email them. The call is then automatically disconnected. If you have a policy with Lemonade, please keep a close watch on it to make sure unauthorized changes are not made without your consent.

    Trainers and Sandals.

    I bought some Pink Glitterbomb Trainers a few weeks ago. I absolutely love them never had them off my feet. Facebook always show the white one's but they do other colours. So comfortable and reasonable price. I find them just as good as Nike Trainers but they are cheaper. I also bought some £5 every day sandals for my holiday too they are pink with 4 lovely shiny coloured stones on them. Really nice.
