AAA Auto Club Group summary

AAA offers home insurance in most of the regions where it operates as an auto insurance provider, with a wide range of discounts available based on your home and personal situation. It also offers 24/7 customer service. Getting a quote online with AAA takes just a few minutes. All in all, we were impressed with how easy it was to use AAA and by their multiple coverage options.

Pros

  • Includes AAA membership
  • Online quotes available for most counties
  • Plenty of discounts available

Cons

  • Some coverage not available in all states
  • Fewer benefits than other AAA products

Suitable For?

If you already use AAA for auto insurance, it makes sense to bundle and save with AAA home insurance. AAA home insurance could also be a smart choice if you’re hoping to manage your policy and claims online, but being tech-savvy isn’t a requirement as AAA also offers phone assistance.

If you recently renovated your home to be more weather resistant, AAA offers discounts that can help you save on home insurance. Because AAA requires membership for coverage, if you choose AAA home insurance that also means you can benefit from a range of travel discounts from hotels, car rental companies and airlines, as well as travel accident insurance.

What Coverage Includes

Coverage through the AAA umbrella is actually provided by a variety of insurers. Likewise, AAA itself is not a single entity, but a federation of motor clubs offering automotive services like insurance and roadside assistance. As a result, coverage varies from county to county and from state to state. In general, however, you can expect to see the following coverage:

  • Main dwelling: This covers damages to the physical structure of your home from natural causes, like fire or wind, or events caused by people, like theft or vandalism.
  • Personal property: This includes appliances and furniture — the exact details of what’s covered  and where liability limits lie will depend on your policy.
  • Other structures: These include other permanently installed, detached structures on your property, like a separate garage, shed, or gazebo. Your policy may also cover, for example, fences or docks.
  • Living expenses: Also called temporary housing protection. If, because of an event covered in your policy, you are no longer able to inhabit your home, you may be reimbursed for temporary housing and storage.

Additional Coverage

Depending on your region and policy, you may also be eligible for an array of additional coverage options. While the above coverage is typically included in all policies, those listed below may or may not be offered, and if they are, they are usually optional.

  • Jewelry and valuables: These can vary widely between regions, but your coverage may include small items of value, like jewelry and watches.
  • Personal liability: Personal liability protection comes into play when you’re found responsible for damages or losses to another person’s body or property.
  • Medical payments for others: If your policy includes this clause, you can be reimbursed for medical expenses and payments if somebody gets injured on your property.

Application Process

There are three ways to apply for AAA insurance: online, by telephone, and in-person. The quickest and simplest method for most people will be applying online. You’ll need to visit your region’s AAA site (they vary by state) and fill out an online form. Some regions may not be eligible for an online quote, but this is rare.

To expedite the quote process, AAA may collect information from third party providers, like consumer reporting agencies, driving records, claims and credit history. The online questionnaire is quick and straightforward, and only took us a few minutes to get through. We got our quote directly online , without having to have an additional email or phone call with an insurance agent.

Discounts

One advantage to signing up with AAA Home Insurance is that there are discounts available. First, you can save over 20% on your home insurance by combining additional insurance policies, like auto insurance. There’s also discounts for policyholders who have been with the AAA (or an affiliate) for longer than one year, and for persons aged 55 or older and who are retired.

Based on the state of your home, you may be eligible for a numbers of discounts: if you haven’t filed any claims in the past three years, if your home is outfitted with a protective device (e.g., fire or burglar alarm), if your home was built recently, if your roof is resistant to hail, or if it’s been recently renovated.

How Safe is it?

AAA is a large, well-known, national brand, founded more than 115 years ago. It has more than 60 million members in the USA and Canada, and is well known for its road-side assistance, auto insurance, and AAA travel ratings.  The Home Insurance branch of AAA has an A+ rating from AM Best.

Claims & Customer Support

Customer service is available 24/7; you can use the same AAA hotline for your club area as you would for assistance. You can use customer service to file a claim, or simply log onto your account on your state’s AAA website and file your claim online. Make sure you hold onto the claim tracking number, so you can check its status and easily communicate with customer service as you move forward.

Summary

AAA is an obvious choice for members of the auto club, but if you’re not a AAA member, that shouldn’t necessarily stop you either. There are plenty of discounts here, according to your home and personal situation. AAA is well-known and has a high AM Best rating. The application process is straightforward, and you can manage your policy entirely online if you so desire.

    Horrendous wait time

Our car needed a tow. We called at 11:43; we were told one hour, then two, then three. at 4:45, we called our own tow truck and called and canceled AAA. At 6:18, we got a call from the tow truck driver for AAA and we could understand little of what he said - slurred words, mumbling, dropped syllables. I'll add this was August in Austin, TX - temps over 100. We canceled AAA.

    Tow got refused

Tow got refused, after being a member for years. My car slide into a small creek, called AAA to get a tow. After being on hold for a while, I was told they would not tow me, call the cops. Bad enough it cost be $1154, and my membership fee for AAA gets me nothing in return. I will not be a returning customer. After calling, they said I can not see the rule without them mailing me a copy, because its not posted anywhere that they will not tow a car tires are in water.

AAA was once a well and reliable…

AAA was once a well and reliable respected company. Had been a customer for years, however things have certainly changed. Sat on the side of the road for several hours today. Back and forth on the phone with customer service, who we later learned hadn't actually been dispatched! Found this out during the next to the last call. Finally, the woman in customer service practically admitted they had dropped the ball. Needless to say, now waiting for a private tow company. Now 4 hours into this ordeal! Will definitely be canceling my membership.

We have been members since 2016

We have been members since 2016. Today out truck broke down we have had this truck by them before but today while on the side of the road beside a busy road and its getting dark they tell us that they can't tow us because our truck is not covered. Told them they have towed it before and they said that that should have never happened. So they left us on the side of the road in a dangerous area when they could have told us this truck wasn't covered the last time and we could have updated what we needed to

My car had a flat tire!

My car had a flat tire and came off the rim early in the morning, whilst taking my three kids to school. So I pulled over and called Triple AAA as I have been a loyal member since 2018. I was told a tow truck would be out to put the spare on within an hour and a half. After that time, still no tow truck had arrived. So I called them back and they informed me they were having trouble finding a driver for the tow truck and they would call back when they could find one available. I was able to get a ride home as fortunately, it wasn’t too far. After six hours, there was still no phone call! So I called once again and was told they still couldn’t find a driver. I had to call a tow truck company that was able to immediately send one out. This had to be paid for out of my own pocket. Suffice to say, I shall be looking for a new road side assistance provider when my membership comes up for renewal this March 2022.

    AAA review… not good

I've been a customer for AAA for the past few years. Recently switched over to a new policy in December for my new Toyota Corolla LE. I previously was only paying $800 a year for my old policy. When I talked to the AAA person, the new policy for the Corolla, I was told going to be $1400 a year. I was not the happiest with this increase. But reluctantly paid it, figuring at least I'm good for the rest of the year. But I was wrong. 1 month later. I was called by AAA, saying they cancelled my policy because of non payment. I was confused. I called them back. They now wanted an extra $900 dollars. Told me I didn't pay my bill. Even though I paid AAA a month ago the full amount for the year.... I'm now luckily switched over to freeway insurance. The cheapest insurance possibly available in California. Im not happy with AAA. They are polite and friendly on the phone. But will scam you when it comes down to the money...

    Was a 9 year member

Was a 9 year member. I called for a tow this week and the AAA agent wanted my Auto Insurance information to charge the tow against since my car was damaged from hitting some ice then a guard rail. I had to repeatedly state (6 times) that I wanted to use my AAA benefit. It seems that AAA does not want its members to use the benefits it espouses. Lesson learned - since AAA would rather me use road side assistance than my AAA membership benefits then I will drop my membership along with the membership of my husband and 3 kids and purchase roadside insurance (which is what the AAA agent was suggesting and it will end up being much cheaper for me).

AWFUL SERVICE - Will Leave Your Family Stranded On The Road For Hours

Have had AAA for a few years, mainly in case my wife and daughters have car trouble. Twice my daughters have had either car trouble or (this week) a flat tire. First time they left her on the side of I-10 for 4-5 hours stranded in Louisiana. Thankfully a LA State trooper stayed with her and continued to try and get the wrecker driver - who had every excuse in the world - to render aid. No luck, even with a state trooper supporting. This week, other daughter had a flat in Houston, TX. Called AAA about 5:00, gave them EXACT ADDRESS and was told help would be there at 6:15. I was an hr away from my daughter's location and left at 5:00 because of past poor experience with AAA. I arrived at her location at 6. We waited until 6:15, no AAA help and we called for a status. Said was 20 min out. After 20 min, still no help. I changed the tire. We called AAA to cancel service and were given the oldest line in the book "I'm here at the address that you gave but I don't see you". Total crap and what you will receive with AAA service. We are throwing money away with this "service" and will look for a more reliable roadside assistance from a more reputable company. Beware - DO NOT BUY THIS SERVICE as they will be happy to take your money and leave your family on the side of the road stranded for hours.

Please Stay away from AAA. They will NOT help you!

Please listen to me if you are thinking about switching to AAA. DO NOT! Stay away! The Huntsville Al branch is the laziest bunch of people I have ever seen, especially AMY KING. I have had 2 vehicles and home insurance for 10 years, never a claim. Now my pipes are busted underneath my slab with water pouring into the home, they refuse to help, me and my family has been w/o water since OCT 2021. The neighbors are letting us use their showers because the plumbers are wanting a arm and leg to fix this due to it being underneath the kitchen cabinets wall. My AAA policy states they will provide access to the leak, they have refused to help me. I have now contacted a lawyer and the health dept.

Do not call AAA for help. They are incompetent.

I've had AAA for since I've been driving, so around 20 years. They used to be useful as a liason service for roadside repair. But the last two times I've used them, once in 2019 and this week, my service has been god awful and this company should frankly be shuttered. They're abysmal. Two years ago my engine crapped out, and I was parked on a city street, stuck with the car for hours as the snow was piling up over a foot. After a reasonable amount of time (at least 90 minutes) I asked them to hurry because I didn't want to get impounded, because an impound release fee would be more than a tow. Turns out the rep on the phone was either a moron who acted on their own volition, or following some moronic policy, and closed my ticket and reopened it as new. This meant I was put at the bottom of the queue. So I had to wait even longer, and was in even greater danger of having my car impounded. It took me 4+ hours to get home, only AFTER I had hounded them. The only way I got out of that was because this employee had promised me help at a certain timeframe, and it put the manager in a bind, so he had to actually help me. Getting assistance in your time of need only by a "mistake" on a vendor's part is not ethical nor a sign of competence. The second time in two years I've had to use them is right now, and again, they've let me down on a fundamental level. Engine problems again. Car is in a parking lot. I need it towed to a specific auto body shop where the engine is under warranty. At the time of writing it's been nearly 48 hours and they've still not come through to help me. The reason, divulged only after I pressed them on it? My car is in an area with a "25 mile restriction" when the shop is 34 miles away. Did the nincompoops tell me this when i opened the ticket? No. Apparently whatever behind-the-veil deal they have going on that directly affects vulnerable people apparently isn't information they feel necessary to divulge, or their training process is so rudimentary their poor employees get to look like malicious or incompetent goobers, promising to help then letting the tickets sit indefinitely. Do I have to wait til May until the restriction is lifted? Why not just tell me that so I don't have to waste my time talking to you fools? I have my own life, I don't have your service for fun. So my car is sitting in a privately owned parking lot and could be impounded on the whim of a Target manager. For two whole days. I could have been pursuing my own solutions instead of relying on the frankly unreliable people at AAA. Could they have just said "So sorry, we're incapable as a company to deliver the service you expect because of our policies at the high volume time of year, so you're on your own." Yes. They could have been honest. But a deception by omission is still a deception. Misleading people still makes you a pack of liars, no matter your intent or stupid policies that make sense within your offices. I do not care what your bosses have decided. That's not my business. What is my business is handling my automobile issues in the most expedient ways available to me, and I do not appreciate simpletons obstructing me while promising to help me. Get out of the way AAA. Do not offer help you can't deliver. It makes you look idiotic and weak. So after a frustrated call with a hapless rep, a manager called me back and had the gall to simply ask if I still wanted to keep the ticket open. I asked if they could get someone out in a definite time period. Any time period. No. Well why would I want to keep the ticket open, you cretin? Why would you ask that? I'm obviously upset with your company and its lack of capability to deliver the very thing it is known for. If you didn't have anything for me, why did you call? What managers are training people this way? Everyone with an iota of influence there should be dismissed, from mid managers all the way up to the executives. A person who knew what they were doing would have a solution or recompense, maybe a reimbursement, a free charge in the future, something to offer a long-time dissatisfied customer. So as someone who's had this service for a while, let me tell anyone who might be interested in signing up- they are not good at what they say they do. The best you can hope for is to arrange your own services and send them a bill. They're not good at roadside assistance. They will leave you high and dry and have nothing to say except empty apologies. You'll be stuck trying to figure out your precarious situation AND have the irritation of dealing with someone who you think will help you but just end up as a flake.

The car died in a parking lot in…

The car died in a parking lot in Vermont. I live n NY, but have coverage to have the car towed to my local shop. All reps were good except the one from Vermont. It was like talking to a person that absolutely did not want to help me. She made up excuse after excuse instead of posing possible solutions. I needed to get back to Vermont to meet the tow driver; a trip of over an hour. She offered to have a driver meet me in a timeframe of one hour. She told me the driver could not call me en route and would not give me the name of the tow company so I could call them myself. Her excuse was that it was a holiday. It was not. MLK's birthday holiday is Monday, not Saturday. I wish this particular representative had just stayed home to celebrate the apparently now days long holiday instead of going to work that day. The car is still sitting in Lowe's parking lot because of her incompetence. She was not pleasant, friendly or nice. AAA should be more careful in their screening of employees, especially the ones dealing with customers with stranded cars. I have been a member for nearly 22 years, and have never had an experience with a passive aggressive person like this before with this company.

I needed assistance to get my car towed…

I needed assistance to get my car towed to the dealership. Upon doing so, the employee towed it incorrectly and ended up damaging the clutch. This costs me $1500 out of pocket after insurance with the rental fee and the mechanic. I have tried for THREE months now to get somebody to reimburse me, my insurance has tried multiple times to get in touch with someone and no one has been helpful. You would expect AAA to know what they are doing and not damage your vehicle, OR if they did, to assume responsibility and handle the charges. It has been so very frustrating, to AAA $1500 is pennies, for me… it’s a lot of money. Somebody fix this now.

    AAA - What a NIght!

What a night! AAA has been helpful in the past but tonight was awful. I didn't have my drivers license physically with me (just the photo of the ID on my phone) and the person who arrived would not help me because he couldn't scan the card. He actually left me in a sketchy part of town with no solution -- because he couldn't scan my license?! First of all - that's so bad! Second, there were so many other things i had that proved my ID .. like my AAA card and car registration for starters! I spent the next 3 hours stranded there and calling around until I finally figured something out. Good job AAA -- I can't believe I paid for your service!

My Battery went dead and was just over the 3 year warranty, so I said okay do the pro-ration. The technician said my battery test good. Maybe because I had the car jumped by a goo Samaritan and was able to charge the battery somewhat because I was able to drive it home. The battery did not hold a charge. Long story short, they would not honor the prorated warranty. Fail

Signed up for full auto coverage. My wife and infant son and I needed roadside assistance, car broke down just outside of Omaha. My agent or whoever informed me that due to Covid they wouldn't be able to give us a ride in the tow vehicle. We had to walk to a gas station to get supplies to keep my infant son alive since it was a hot day. My phone rep was super sorry but couldn't do anything. LUCKILY a good sweet little lady offered us a ride otherwise Uber was non-existant out there. Terrible day. Got a new car, the rate went up $200/mo. Ouch. Then I had a week where I didn't have the money coming for a few days so I turned off the auto-pay. Turns out the auto pay was only linked to my aaa"membership" not my insurance. So they over drew from my bank, I had to call and ended up cancelling my auto insurance because AAA failed me and then made it unclear what auto pay was being turned off. Honestly I feel like they owe me money, but they ended up on top, good for you. It's all a scam. They make it seem like this great coverage but then if you actually need help they have nothing but excuses.

We called AAA and we’re told they wouldn’t cover the lock out because The card holder (me) wasn’t physically there with her. We’ve used it before like that with no problem but I guess their policy has changed. Now they’ll just leave a 17yr old girl stranded!! We had to call a locksmith which charged us 165.00! So why have I been paying AAA for 14 years??!!! Judging by lack of replies by AAA, it’s probably a safe assumption that they really could care less what any of us post on here…..

On December 9th 2021 my car broke down

On December 9th 2021 my car broke down, thankfully I have AAA or so I thought. I called roadside assistance, they said no problem we will have a tow truck out with in the hour. I waited an hour but hadn't heard anything so I called back, they said they are really busy it could take up to 3 hours from when I first called in. I let the them know that my car was sticking out into the lane of traffic on a fast road and that it was 38 degrees and raining out. After 3 hours I called back and spoke to two different people who said there was no tow trucks available and to either call 911 or try again the next day, meanwhile I'm stranded in the middle of nowhere and it's now 11 pm and I'm due to work at 7 am and I'm 20 miles from home. I called 911, a sheriff was there 15 mins later, said he called a tow truck on his way to me, 15 mins later my car was on a flat bed headed home, I paid for the tow out of pocket and submitted a claim form two days later and was told somebody was going to call me, I have not heard a word nor have I been paid back now going on Jan 8th 2022. I'm let down, AAA used to be great and would never do this, something changed.

In my life I have never had such…

In my life I have never had such horrible customer service. I needed a tow after my tire flew off my car back in November of 2021. The person that was sent said they couldn't tow my car, didn't give a reason but couldn't tow it. The police got involved and spoke to two AAA operators and was told it was too late (6:30 pm???)to send a tow. The officer told them that answer was unacceptable and urged them to send a tow truck. They did not, so I had to get a tow and pay for it out of pocket, but, and this is important, the officer and I were reassured multiple times that I would be reimbursed in 4-5 weeks. After calling AAA no less than 22 times and speaking to a AAA rep that apparently does not exist at AAA, I got nothing but rude AAA operators dropped calls and apparently there is a shortage of customer service reps only to be told I would not be reimbursed for the full amount of $350. It looks like I may not even receive half of that. Now this was at Christmas so there weren't presents this year and my rent was late. I also had the mechanic work to pay for aside from the $350. I make just above minimum wage and $350 is a massive sum of money for me. That happened in the middle of November and now it is the first week in January and I was told my claim is still processing. I have gotten the state attorney general's office involved but fear there will be no recourse. I urge everyone reading this to please see if you have roadside assistance with your insurance company and avoid AAA at all costs.

Well located off Lake and Union in…

Well located off Lake and Union in Pasadena the new Supervisor Christopher Cononer had little to say regarding three of his employees conduct. The first time I went in a man who now works at the front desk was being trained by a former employee and taught him not to register my car cause supposedly it was stolen. After the discrimination and remaining at tripl A for 2 hours. Finally, a woman employee overrides their behavior and registered my car and gave me outstanding customer service. So I decided to return but the woman wasnt there yesterday at 1/04/2022 and wow! The same man who gave me the worst most offensive discrimitative service when I pay for Triple A was there working the front. When he sent me to window 8 I had to deal with a woman who claimed my MD and a State Judge who place me under a disability act was not valid enough to get plates with all the proper forms. Then made accusations from the man at the front desk down to window 8 that the second car I just bought was possibly stolen and wouldn't register my car. So I had to pay out pocket expenses to go register at the DMV today and look who was telling the Truth! Car is registered and once again Pasadena's discriminatory service has failed the human race!

Horrible experience. Have been a member with them for years and was on hold for over an hour and also called first thing in the morning at 8. Still haven’t gotten any service. Same thing happened to me a few months ago, I got locked out of my car and called them. Took them over 4 hours to bring someone out to help me. Do not recommend them. They used to be awesome and now it’s trash. Do not use them. Very disappointed.

I’m a 30 year veteran AAA member . Had it for my kids clunkers , my wife’s and family safety . They had me on hold for an hour yesterday , the girl couldn’t find the policy that I told her was in my wife’s name as well . I’m in Florida with a Toyota pick up with a camper back , they told me I had to be transferred RV department and I had used all my appointments for the year . In the meanwhile , I’m stuck with two flat tires . I got it towed for 66 dollars and two need valves for $25 . Very disappointed in a company I always praised . The last thing you need during a time like that is hold for over an hour , get put back on hold to go to RV service wich they don’t think I qualify because there is a toilet in the camper back … Really disappointed .

Non Renewal after 10 years of paying

I have been a member for 10 years and bumped my membership up to the Premier level last year. I just got a notice of non-renewal. Last summer I had a car break-down in the middle of SD and received excellent service. But - evidently this cost AAA too much $$$ and now I am viewed as a non-profitable client. So I am being dumped by them. Nice company after 10 years of paying. Quite the scam.

Zip code 78650. Needed new battery snd we were told there is no battery replacement/sales in our area that could come out. So we found battery @ auto supply in Elgin but they won’t install. So we call AAA to see about towing pickup there, we purchase battery if they would install. Nope, AAA said they only install batteries purchased from them but they have none for sale. What kind of service is ASA without service in our area. Waste of money to join. They are not helpful at all.

You would think that if you pay $100 for a service every year for numerous years and don't use there service they would send someone quicker then 6 hours and the tow truck still isn't here. This is the 2nd time I have used aaa and not had a tow truck show up for hours on end. I believe I will be canceling it and trying another roadside service because this is but. The first tow company canceled I called an hour after he was supposed to be here AAA never called or texted saying what happened. When I called and inquired they told me then it took them another 45minuted to send a text whole I'm calling back in saying the tow truck driver will be there at 7 now here at 830pm I'm still waiting while writing this post

    demanded cash, left me stranded.

I needed a tow in Avon, CT at 1:35am on Christmas Day. Granted it was a holiday, I was delighted that the tow truck I requested through the AAA app arrived in 2 hours as projected. However, the outsourced tow truck driver insisted on me paying him $20 cash only due to the 5.3mile distance he had to tow my car was “outside the covered area” for my membership. There was no information of this extra charge on the app. I’m a classic member, 23 year member, and should be covered up to 100 miles towing FOR FREE. The tow truck driver told me he was going to back his truck up so he could get closer to my car (while I told him I would indulge him in his cash request… it was Christmas after all). He proceeded to get in his truck and leave me stranded. Despicable service.

This is what happened to us last night…

This is what happened to us last night after being members of AAA for twenty years. We have not even ask them for help in at least 2 years. The letter below is my answer after they gave a lame excuse and offered a discount for next year.. as if.. I appreciate that you are concerned about your customers. We have been with AAA for many years. Both my husband and I are very upset about what happened. Not because of a delay in service but the attitudes of Your representatives who are the life line to us in an emergency. My husband was in a building where there was no heat and he had gotten wet working outside. It was still raining and dark. He told me that he had called AAA and that the tow truck would be there at 8:15. When 8:15 came and went without so much as a courtesy call from AAA to inform him that he was not forgotten, he called again. Next he was told that he had to wait for the driver to call and it would be 20 more minutes just to get a CALL from the driver. My husband called me to let me know what was going on. I wanted to come get him but he said he would wait for the call. I called AAA to find out why this was happening and why my husband was just basically blown off without a care from you. I was given stupid excuses by the representative named Sonia.# 30556. She told me it was not her fault and that all she was responsible for was answering the phone... She also tried to say that the tow truck driver had no phone service but she had just told me the driver had told dispatch that he went to pick up another car. Probably to pocket his money..that is what I think. So I called her on the lie because I ask her how come he was out of phone service when it came to calling my husband but not a problem to call his dispatch and obviously they had talked to Sonia at AAA. I also informed her that the tow truck driver did not represent AAA but She does! She then said my husband would have to continue to wait. My husband called again after he never received the next phone call from AAA or the driver. Then he was told that the tow truck driver was in an accident! My husband ask if he had wrecked his tow truck and the lady laughed at him and said no . She then told him he would have to wait another 20 minutes for the driver to call him. By this point it is obviously clear that they all think this is a big joke! My husband was so cold that he could barely talk to me when I called him to check on him. He was so cold I could here his teeth chattering as he tried to speak. I told him I was coming asap. And I went. After I got there I called AAA back to give you more courtesy than any of your representatives had even dared to give us and told them I was already there. To say the least I am angry. We paid you for a service which I might add we have not even used in at least a couple of years! So just $$$for you and when it came time to get back what WE paid for, less than nothing. No courtesy. No service. No care for his personal safety! I cannot help but wonder how it would be if it had been my grandbabies and I out stranded in the cold dark night for hours without heat in the winter!! We pay you for service not just for convenience but also for safety! You failed on all marks. Do I want my money back for the whole year . Refund it all. You only took and you put my family at risk. Certainly my husband and I can understand a delay. What we cannot and will not understand is not even the common courtesy of a call to at least check on him and let him know what was happening instead of arrogance and lies and excuses! Sincerely, April Carrillo

I have been a member for 37 years. I received a letter 2 months ago stating they were cancelling out membership so when we called to find out why the only answer she would give us was “they don’t have to give you a reason “ I’m assuming because the last couple of years we needed to have a few towes that they figure they’re losing money . What about the other 30 something years when we didn’t use it . Isn’t that what you pay for ? They have gone downhill so bad I don’t know how they’re still in business . Just read the reviews for yourself and run far away from this company . Their new motto is if you use it you lose it

    Extremely disappointed

I have been a member of AAA for DECADES! In the past they had always been responsive for the most part for jump starts or flat tires- the last couple years their service has significantly declined, and tonight was the worst ever! I got a notice in my car that my tire pressure was low, within just a few mins on the interstate trying to get to a gas station the pressure went from 20 to 2 PSI! I pulled into a Shell station and immediately called triple A- they told me that a service person would be there in 30 mins- after an hour I called again- they said that the service people were backed up and it would be another 45 mins- an hour later and now they are saying that the service people never got the request and that not only could they not send anyone out but even the back-up crew went home! I am now a single woman sitting alone in her car at a gas station that has since shut down for the night and turned off the lights looking for another alternative!

My daughter had a flat tire was all alone. She called AAA for assistance and they told her that they would call her back with an ETA. Two hours went by and they still didn’t call her back so I drove out to the site. I called them and they said they’re working on it and allow at least a two hour window. Well the two hour went by and I called again and they said they can’t find a company to come pick it up and that we could leave the keys in the car or schedule a pick up for tomorrow. She has a Kia soul that doesn’t come with a spare tire only comes with a one use can of fix a flat and a small air pump and that didn’t get the job done. We bought the AAA for emergency assistance and this was an emergency she’s a teenager by her self on a dark Lee lit part of town that’s abandoned after 10 o’clock. Not having a lot of resources ourselves that’s why we purchased the protection plan. AAA told me we could pay for our own tow truck and they’ll reimburse me. Ha I doubt that or less in a timely fashion. So I drove the flat several miles in parts that a friends house until I can take care of it tomorrow morning. I do not I will not recommend AAA and I’m going to look for alternative protection for my daughter.

TERMINATED FOR USING THE SERVICES OFFERED

About 2 years ago, I joined AAA when I contacted them on New Year's Day 2020 when my car got stuck in a muddy cul-de-sac. They were surprisingly quick (30 minute wait on a holiday) and convenient, so I renewed the membership in 2021 and added my parents to the membership for only $140 for the 3 of us. I received a letter a couple of weeks ago from AAA and I thought it was my renewal letter but it was notice letting me know that they will NOT be renewing my membership. I don't recall what the letter said verbatim but I called them about it and none of the reps I spoke to about it were able to provide an explanation because whatever it was that they had tagged my account as was a vague as the letter I received. Essentially, what it boiled down to was, it wasn't cost effective for them to renew the membership because of the number of times we had already used the service. Now, 3 people at 4 tows, jumps, flats, or lockouts per year totals 12 services calls. My mom, who is showing signs of dementia and doesn't drive as much anymore, used it 3 times thus far in 2021. I used it once in 2021 and my dad hadn't used it at all. So, 4 services calls out of 12 was too many for AAA. When they pitched the service to me, they never told me that they really don't want me to use the service. Had I known, I wouldn't have gotten the service. I was going to renew only for myself this year since my parents no longer drive but that won't be happening. In fact, I think it's safe to say that I will never do business with AAA ever again. I've never seen or heard of a company that offers you a service but doesn't really want you to use it.

I've needed service techs 3 times in this month, alone. Alternator went and I was followed home after the tech put a jump box on my battery. The man recommended local mechanics who were good and fair in pricing. Second time was to have to car towed to one of those mechanics. Last night I had packages to carry and locked my keys in the car. I was frozen standing outside and was told it would be as much as an hour and was texted a link to watch the truck make its way to me. Tech came within 15 minutes and was funny and very kind. I neglected to get the other tech's names but Tech 66- JasoB helped last night with my lockout and his promptness was much appreciated. For many years my father provided AAA and now I'm a member of nearly 50 years and am very pleased with the technology and service. Horrendous experience

My experience with AAA was beyond horrendous. I had my first and only breakdown after three years as a paying member. After talking with a live rep and being told that service was coming, they left me sitting at the side of the road for four hours before telling me I was “free to find my own assistance” and they would reimburse me. They reimbursed me for one-third the actual expense, citing a technicality in which the roadside company that helped me had listed a minor charge on my bill for a service that AAA did not cover, so AAA threw out the entire line item on the bill despite it being obvious to any reasonable person what had happened. Just awful customer service. It was all about coming up with an excuse to avoid an actual reimbursement for the service I had been paying them to provide.

Not the great company we remember

Not the great company we remember. Actually very terrible! I broke down in the middle of a busy intersection, I called Triple A ( number from back of the card) and got agent trying to sell me a medic alert service, I stated firmly it was an emergency I was broken down in unsafe location but the agent just spoke louder and faster with the sales spiel. I said I do not want medic alert please transfer me but she continued with sale. I asked if this was Triple A, she did not respond just continued louder. She finally said she would transfer me but transferred me to sales pitch for elder care. I called next number on card and got same sales pitch prompt. I hung up and called third number on the card, finally got Triple A service. She said it would be 75 minutes but they would expedite call because of unsafe location. I waited an hour, luckily a very great policeman came and blocked road for me. The policeman called to help speed things up but there was no service call received by closet Triple A shop. I called Triple A back and they said the service ticket was just “picked up”. An hour later the tow truck came. I received initial service task from Triple A, but was only alerted after tow truck had arrived. It seems to me they are picking and choosing which calls to take and respond to. Tow driver told me he was going to clear call because he could not find me. In the middle of intersection with police behind me? He could have called me. Me and my family have used AAA for over 40 years. This is tragic to see such a great service and company play these games.

I requested roadside assistance at 9:15a and did not get a towe truck until 4:30p. The company they referred me was Ideal Transport and Towing in Atlanta. The service for both AAA and Ideal Transport and Towing was horrible and unacceptable. The tow company was only working with one man and never conveyed that. AAA never offered to try another company. UNACCEPTABLE

    HORRIBLE SERVICE

HORRIBLE SERVICE, got stranded in the middle of interstate. I requested a tow truck at 2:10 pm and it is currently 6 pm, I’ve called several times and was on hold for 2 hours overall. When a lady answered my call she spoke to me, and told me that she had to call the facility to get an update on the tow truck, I was again on hold for another 20 minutes to then receive an answer from her saying “the facility does not respond, so I don’t know what to tell you”. This company is ridiculous, a waste of time, and a huge waste of money. You will for certain wait for a minimum of 3 hours, to then get no assistance. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Once Great Organization Now Sucks Tailpipe

As a tow/break-down car service, they were the go-to in the USA for what, a century? And they know it. And their service sucks more and more, even though cars are more and more reliable. Left me hanging for two hours: learned from the garage that did come and get me is because AAA doesn't want to pay a reasonable amount to vendors/tow services, and also that AAA were in areers to that vendor - about $400 in late bills. For insurance, AAA is so incompetent that they can't even take my money. I asked for three scenarios - how much for what coverage - so I could then pick a policy, and it took three different agents, and six hours on the phone, to get a straight answer. Plus a dozen emails. The incompetence is unbelievable. Bringing it to their attention is also a waste of time: lots of apologies, and zero refunds.

I needed my vehicle towed from my driveway to the garage. I called AAA at 3:00pm. They said it would be within the hour. I waited for an hour and a half. Called back, found out my request for the tow truck wasn't even put in. So, they put me on hold, called the towing place. Then they said, they will dispatch someone out. I waited again for an hour. Luckily I got the name of the towing company (mind you, it's less the a mile form me) and called them. They said they never got a request!!! And that I was the third person to say this. I gave him my address. Said he'll be out. So, basically I had to do AAA's job!! After 5 hours, I got my vehicle towed. Thankfully I wasn't beside the road broke down!! Ridiculous

375% premium incr for hospitalized 90 yr old

While my 90 year old mother (50+ yr customer) recovers from her 3rd hospitalization in a month, AAA of MI raised her auto insurance by 375% ($420/month) for her car to sit in my driveway. No compassion from agents - placed me on hold for 20 minutes when I asked for a supervisor. I called GEICO. They were compassionate & worked with me to get the premium to $5/month. Avoid AAA of MI - when you need them they will rob you!

    Bad Battery and Run Around!

Last year my fiancé's car had horrible issues starting. We contacted AAA and they tested the battery finding it had went bad. They replaced the battery same day and gave us a 6 year warranty on it. Coming back to this year the car started having issues starting again since the beginning of November. We went to AutoZone and they told us the battery again was bad (the one we had just purchased the year before!). We contacted AAA letting them know that we had just went to AutoZone, was told the battery was bad, and that they needed to send someone to come and replace the battery since it is in the 6 year time frame. They sent out a normal tow truck and the gentleman told us that he only had jumper cables, not a battery tester. He jumped the battery and said there was nothing he could do since the battery was "charging" and he didn't have a battery tester. He also said that the guy in the area with a battery tester wouldn't be in until the week. So I asked him "so what you're saying is my fiancé will now have to jumpstart his car every morning until we need to call again to have the guy with the battery tester come over?" He just replied "yup". The battery is now completely dead and when my fiancé had it taken in today he found out the wrong battery was put into it by AAA! The battery they gave is some non-name brand battery and he was so aggravated he went and bought a name brand battery with a warranty from AutoZone. So much hassle to try to get things fixed that I am seriously thinking of not renewing my policy with them this coming year and I have been a policyholder for 13 years! Extremely displeased with this issue!

    Do not use AAA EVER

Do not use AAA. You will have a very false sense of security when you are traveling across the country. Our car broke down on the interstate, we called AAA and reached a message stating that it would be 20 minutes to talk with a representative and that it would be better to input our tow request online. We did that and it confirmed that someone would be there in 57 minutes. No one showed up and we called back and waited for 15 more minutes to talk to someone and finally found out that they had done absolutely nothing with our online request. Then, they told us that that didn't have a tow company to dispatch and that we should try calling someone ourselves. Seriously? WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!

I have been sitting here waiting for…

I have been sitting here waiting for AAA for over 2 and a half hours so far. When I first called, they said the estimated arrival time was a hour and a half away. That's a bit of a wait but ok. Let's do. So after the time had come and gone, I called AAA to find out that the tow service that they were sending called and cancelled and that they were going to have to find another tow company to come. Nobody called me to let me know. I asked how long it would take to get someone else to come and they said it could be a hour or two or longer. This is the biggest waste of money. You buy the plan so that in case you need a tow or have some other roadside emergency they will be there to help you. That is so not the case. This is actually about the 4th time something like this has happened with my family over time and they have screwed us over each time. I'm calling tomorrow and cancelling my service with them. If you are looking for reliable roadside assistance, this is not the company for you.

Was told hed have to stay with his car for it to be towed. 3-4 hour minimum wait on cold night. When did they call him back???? 14 hours later. First time we needed their service and this was the result. Canceling. Honestly, we deserve a refund.

Honestly would give 0 stars if possible. Worst experience with “roadside assistance” ever. Would NOT RECOMMEND. I waited for 6 hours for a tow truck to come before I just left my vehicle in a parking lot. Every single time I called during those 6 hours, they said the same thing, “they are running a bit behind, should be there in 30 min”. TERRIBLE business. Did speak to one really nice customer service rep. Named Carrie.

Id give 0 stars if i could

Id give 0 stars if i could. I needed a tow. Contacted AAA roadside with my friend and they sent out a tow company that already has many yelp reviews of being completely negligent, damaging members vehicles, stealing them, etc. So when this tow guy knowingly put my car on a flat bed when it needed a different tow truck, and drug it off, snapping my rear control arm in half. Then he proceeded to leave my car, parked backwards in front of my friends house like some trash. I was humiliated. So, I get my car to a local dealership, get the problem fixed, and now have a 1200- bill that needs paid in order for me to get MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION BACK..THIS took place over A MONTH AGO. AND MY CAR IS NOW RACKING UP STORAGE FEES SITTING AT DEALERSHIP JUST WAITING FOR ME TO PICK IT UP. IVE BEEN LIED TO ABOUT MY CHECK COMING FOR OVER A WEEK, AND TODAY FOUND OUT ITS NOT ARRIVING FOR 5 MORE DAYS. Whats most upsetting about this whole thing, is nobody offered me a rental car. Nobody, even after taking a month to get this done, did anybody say, sorry you waited so long, sorry you lost your job because u had no way to get to work, sorry you found another job but lost that one too. Sorry we left you unemployed with no income and no transportation for over a month, you know maybe we could get you a rental car so you COULD AT LEAST MAKE THANKSGIVING DINNER WITH YOUR FAMILY. BUT NOBODY CARED. AAA SUCKS

I have the Premier RV package with 2 additional members and pay just under $400.00 yearly for it. I haven't used it in a couple of years and needed to have my son's car, with no brakes, towed to the repair shop, 4 miles away, so I called. 6 hours and 5 calls later they finally showed up and the driver was trying to convince me to drive it to the shop myself. I can no longer justify the expense of membership and will not be renewing again. Too bad the Renewal for this year has already happened 2 weeks ago.

    Horrible

Horrible! People become members because they count on dependable service for help when they are stranded or broke down. Out of the last 3 calls one was never fulfilled, end up canceling after waiting over 5 hours for assistance and the other one also took over 5 hours and he showed up just as I was canceling the service. I pay for a service and you quickly take my money yet don't actually provide a service ...and when I/ we call to say something we just get a sorry! Unacceptable. I travel for a living and count on dependability and for a company to actually provide the service I pay for. I will not be renewing my membership in the future.

    Disappointed inAAA

Well after reading all the bad reviews, I see why I had a bad experience. I had a low tire and tried calling. After endless menu options and going around in circles I hung up and searched online for a repair place. Being a Saturday it was hard to find one. I did find one AAA Garage open that took me in. so I filled the tire at 7-11 and drove it there. I showed the service guy my AAA card and he said he hadn't done any AAA service for awhile. But he did fix it $41. I'll give the garage a good review. not AAA

I needed a new battery, so called AAA to bring a NEW one to replace, per their services. They came out and put in a battery, claimed it was brand new, my mechanic later told me that they sold me a USED battery and charged me full price. I complained, but nothing was done. AAA has lost my trust.

If I could give less than one star for my ongoing bad experiences with AAA, I would. On Thursday, September 23, I called for a tow after discovering I had a flat tire in a parking lot at night after a rehearsal. I called around 9:30pm, and was told by a AAA representative that a tow truck would arrive around 11:05. I received a text that the driver was on their way immediately after this, and then received no more communication for over an hour and a half. I then called every AAA roadside assistance number I could find and waited for an answer, and no one picked up. My husband, who was at our home 50 minutes away, also tried calling several times over the next 30 minutes and finally got someone to answer the phone. The AAA representative that he spoke to looked into why the tow had not arrived and noticed that the new arrival time had been set to 3:05am. I had not been notified, and would have continued to be stranded in a dark parking lot had not a security guard found me and sat with me until 1:05am, at which point my husband arrived to pick me up and we had to leave the car there to try again with AAA the next day. We did not arrive back to our home until 2:30am. I had to take off of work the next day to call AAA again and try again to arrange for a tow. I spoke with somewhere between 5-7 different AAA representatives during the course of the day, all of which gave conflicting information about whether I could have a friend meet the tow truck driver at the church to release the car or not. After finally discovering from this information that I could not have a friend meet the driver, I got in my husband’s car and drove through traffic an hour back to the to the lot to meet the driver. After waiting another 30-45 minutes past when the driver was due, I called and spoke to two more AAA representatives about where the driver could be. The second representative discovered that my cell number was recorded incorrectly in the system, and she said that that was the source of the problem. This makes sense for the tow problems during that day, but does not explain the lack of communication from the previous night that caused me to be stranded for hours, because I received an initial text on my cell phone that evening that the tow was on its way, even though it turned out that it was not. She checked that and confirmed that the number was correct the previous night and had then been changed somehow the following day. The tow on Friday finally came around 4:00pm, and then the tow truck driver and I battled heavy traffic for an hour and a half all the way to the drop off location close to my home, causing us to almost miss being able to even get the car in due to their closing time. It was only because the tire place took pity on me that they allowed me to get the car in, because they had technically already closed. AAA has lost my trust. I lost sleep, a day of work, gas money for multiple hour-long trips to and from the lot, and almost another day of work had I not been able to drop off the car. I requested a formal investigation into the breakdown of events, and was told that I would receive a call from someone at AAA to discuss the matter further, which never came, even now, several months later. The security guard who sat with me past his work hours until 1am missed an evening with his wife on their 21st anniversary and had to drive an hour home after I was rescued by my husband on Thursday night, but the guard had to be back at work again at 6am on the next day. This company, even after receiving my formal complaint, has not made any attempts to rectify the situation.
