Best Egg Personal Loans Full Review

Best Egg personal loans offers a streamlined user experience, strong reputation, and excellent customer reviews. Its worst performance was in the cost and accessibility categories due to high maximum APRs and origination fees, limited availability, and strict requirements.

This Best Egg personal loans review takes a closer look at how it performs against our criteria.

Reputation

Based in Wilmington, Delaware, Best Egg is a fintech company that works with Cross River Bank and Column N.A. to offer unsecured and secured personal loans. Founded in 2014, it’s much newer than the average lender in this industry. To date, Best Egg’s more than two million customers have taken out loans totaling more than $40 billion.

Best Egg is accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) with an A rating. Its average BBB customer score is 4.84 out of 5, based on over 2,900 reviews. Best Egg personal loans reviews on Trustpilot are also generally positive. Its average rating of 4.6 out of 5, based on over 11,800 reviews, beats our computed industry average of 3.55.

In October 2025, Barclays announced its acquisition of Best Egg. The lender expects this deal to be done by Q2 2026 and clarified that it wouldn’t affect its offerings.

Accessibility and Flexibility

Accessibility

Availability is more limited than several competitors — you can apply for a Best Egg loan in only 46 states, and loan types, amounts, and other specifics can vary by location.

Best Egg’s personal loan requirements include a credit score of at least 640 (fair), but to get the lowest rates, you’ll need a minimum credit score of 700 and a $100,000 minimum income. You can’t use a co-applicant.

Best Egg requires a manageable debt-to-income (DTI) ratio, typically below 36%, and while there’s no specific minimum income, you’ll need documents verifying your earnings.

Expert take: “Best Egg … remains a practical choice due to its streamlined application process and consistent performance in the mid-credit segment.” — Nina Abazyan, banking professional and personal lending specialist.

Flexibility

Best Egg offers unsecured and secured loans with different amounts, terms, and pricing structures. This flexibility makes the company suitable for more borrowers, including those with collateral who may then qualify for lower rates.

Unsecured loans range from $2,000 to $50,000 with terms of 3 to 5 years — less flexible than some competitors, which may make it harder to tailor the loan to your needs and budget.

Secured personal loans offer more flexibility, with terms of 2 to 7 years and higher borrowing limits. You could pledge your permanent home fixtures to borrow $5,000 to $50,000 and get a rate discount. Or you could borrow $5,000 to $100,000 against the equity in an eligible vehicle — but a lien will be on your collateral.

Here are estimated payments and interest costs for a $20,000 personal loan with a 15% APR and two term options:

Term

Monthly Payment

Total Cost

Loan A

3 years

~$693

~$24,959

Loan B

5 years

~$475

~$28,547

*These are estimated payments and costs. They can vary depending on payment schedules, credit score, fees, and other costs.

Here, a longer term cuts your monthly payment by more than $200 but increases your total interest by nearly $3,600. Consider this trade-off when comparing offers.

Cost

  • Origination fees: 0.99% to 9.99%

  • Prepayment penalty: No

  • Late fees: Yes, up to $15

  • Other notable charges? No

Best Egg's personal loan rates vary by loan type, credit profile, and other factors. Unsecured APRs are competitive for prime borrowers but high at the top end compared with many lenders.

As of February 2026, the national average APR for personal loans was 11.40%, while credit cards averaged 21%. If you qualify for the lowest rates, Best Egg can be a cheaper option than alternatives, particularly for borrowers with excellent credit.

Best Egg’s fees are a notable drawback, including origination fees as high as 9.99% — potentially $1,998 on a $20,000 loan — and late fees of up to $15, though there’s no prepayment penalty. While active-duty military members may have rates capped at 5%, the company doesn’t advertise auto-pay reductions, direct-to-creditor rate discounts, or a rate-match guarantee.

User Experience

Best Egg’s user-friendly website clearly presents its loan options, including features and terms. It also offers an extensive help center, financial health tools, a financial education blog, and calculators for payments and DTI ratios.

From the homepage, you can prequalify, which doesn’t affect your credit score. During testing, we provided an email address followed by our loan amount and intended use.

Best Egg then requested additional personal and financial details, along with consent for a soft credit check to view offers.

We liked that Best Egg was transparent about fees and the actual deposit amount, which is often affected by upfront origination fees. Afterward, we received follow-up emails, but these stopped once we opted out.

If you move on to the fully digital formal application, expect to sign loan documents and provide documentation. Getting your funds typically takes one to three business days. Best Egg can also pay creditors directly.

In addition to an online portal, Best Egg has a mobile app with good ratings — 4.8 out of 5 on the App Store and 4.5 out of 5 on Google Play.

Expert take: “Best Egg offers a simple application process and quick funding, making it a practical choice for borrowers seeking efficiency.” — Nina Abazyan, banking professional and personal lending specialist.

Customer Service and Support

Contacting Best Egg

Best Egg’s phone support (1-855-282-6353) is available on Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET, Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET — more flexible hours than many competitors.

Like several competitors, Best Egg doesn’t offer live chat support, but you can contact the team via email at loan_assistance@bestegg.com.

During testing, phone support provided the best experience. After prompting, the automated system connected us with a representative in under 30 seconds.

Our email response experience was less helpful, with an initial auto-response.

This was followed by a second email with links lacking the answer we needed:

Overall, for urgent matters, we recommend calling Best Egg, though email may be useful if you’re willing to wait.

Customer Testimonials

Customers have left more than 17,000 Best Egg personal loans reviews on the BBB, Google, and Trustpilot. Positive reviews often mention quick approval and funding times, patient and helpful customer service, a simple application process, and affordable payments.

One satisfied Trustpilot customer said, “This process was fast and easy. The monthly payments and rates were affordable. Best Egg kept me informed every step of the way, and my deposit was processed the next business day! Highly recommend!”

Negative reviews often cite high APRs, funding delays, and loan denials — even for some borrowers with good credit — but it’s worth remembering that lenders consider factors beyond credit score. Best Egg also regularly responds to negative Trustpilot reviews.

Methodology: How We Review Personal Loans

When evaluating personal loan providers, BestMoney considers 35 criteria within these five categories:

  • Reputation: Years in business, BBB accreditation and grade, BBB and Trustpilot review scores, and J.D. Power ratings

  • Accessibility and flexibility: State availability, loan offerings (types, amounts, terms, and co-borrower options), and minimum eligibility requirements

  • Cost: APR ranges, origination fees, prepayment penalties, late fees, other charges, and discounts

  • User experience: Prequalification, online application, funding speed, and availability of mobile apps and an online portal

  • Customer support: Available support channels, responsiveness, hours of operation, expert and customer testimonials, and availability of direct pay to creditors

Final Take: Who Is Best Egg Best for?

Best Egg is ideal if you have a high credit score and income to qualify for its lowest unsecured loan APRs. It’s also good if you have permanent home fixtures for a secured loan with a competitive APR. Plus, customer reviews indicate that the company is a solid choice if you prioritize service and a hassle-free application process.

If you want a large unsecured loan or a long term, or you have a mediocre credit score, you should look at other providers. The same applies if you’re considering a secured loan using your vehicle, as the rates can still be high. We recommend trying Best Egg’s prequalification process, then comparing it with other personal loans.

The term, amount, and APR of any loan we offer to you will depend on your credit score, income, debt payment obligations, loan amount, credit history and other factors. Your loan agreement will contain specific terms and conditions. About half of our customers get their money the next day. After successful verification, your money can be deposited in your bank account within 1-3 business days. The timing of available funds upon loan approval may vary depending upon your bank’s policies. Loan amounts range from $2,000– $50,000. Annual Percentage Rates (APRs) range from 6.99%–35.99%. The APR is the cost of credit as a yearly rate and reflects both your interest rate and an origination fee of 0.99%– 9.99% of your loan amount, which will be deducted from any loan proceeds you receive. The origination fee on a loan term 4-years or longer will be at least 4.99%. Your loan term will impact your APR, which may be higher than our lowest advertised rate.

You need a minimum 700 FICO® score and a minimum individual annual income of $100,000 to qualify for our lowest APR. For example: a 5‐year $10,000 loan with 9.99% APR has 60 scheduled monthly payments of $201.81, and a 3‐year $5,000 loan with 7.99% APR has 36 scheduled monthly payments of $155.12.
