In a Nutshell

Community Tax is a tax relief service that can help you negotiate your tax debt with the IRS or a state tax agency. You get a dedicated case manager and access to the company’s Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and tax attorneys throughout the process. Community Tax is pricey, so it only makes sense if the company can reduce your debt by several thousand dollars. The initial consultation is free, so you can decide if this service is worthwhile.

  • Free initial consultation
  • Unlimited access to a dedicated case manager
  • Limited refunds available if the IRS denies your case

  • Expensive compared to other tax relief services
  • Case manager is not necessarily a CPA

Why Go with Community Tax

Community Tax can help you reduce your tax debt with the IRS or negotiate a payment plan on your behalf. The company sets you up with a free consultation to start, enabling Community Tax’s CPAs and tax attorneys to get a fuller picture of your tax situation. Based on this assessment, the company will present options for lowering your tax burden or establishing a payment plan, and you can decide if the cost is worthwhile.

Once you sign up with Community Tax, you’re assigned a dedicated case manager who serves as your go-to contact at the company. Your case is brought before the IRS by a licensed CPA or tax attorney. While the process is remote, you can easily reach Community Tax by phone, email, or live chat.

One of the most prominent things about Community Tax is that the company follows through on its work. Many of the settlements reached with the IRS requires a lot of follow-up work, and Community Tax stands by you throughout that process. The company can also help with bookkeeping and accounting to ensure that you don’t run into tax trouble again in the future.

What’s Offered

Community Tax deals with a variety of different tax issues, including:

  • State and Federal Tax Debt: If you underpaid state or federal taxes, Community Tax can help you negotiate a payment plan, an offer in compromise, or a Currently Not Collectible status for your tax debt.
  • Audits: Community Tax can help you prepare for and respond to an IRS audit.
  • Payroll Taxes: If you owe payroll taxes from your employment or business, Community Tax can help you figure out how much you owe and potentially reduce your debt.
  • Garnished Wages or Liens: If the IRS has garnished your wages or put a levy on your bank account, Community Tax can negotiate to have those measures lifted.

Community Tax is expensive, although it’s generally in line with what similar tax relief companies charge. The initial consultation is free, but the discovery process - during which Community Tax gets access to your tax records and assesses your options - costs $250.

After that, the amount you’ll pay for Community Tax’s services varies widely depending on your specific tax issue. For most matters related to unpaid taxes, Community Tax estimates your cost at between $900 and $3,000.

Community Tax does offer limited refunds in the event that the IRS completely rejects your case with no settlement. However, there is no guarantee, and all refunds are at the company’s discretion.

Suitable For?

Community Tax can help with a wide variety of tax problems and help you through the process with a dedicated case manager. The service is recommended if you don’t mind working remotely with a case manager, as Community Tax doesn’t offer in-person services. It’s also good if you expect to have ongoing tax settlement or accounting needs, as Community Tax also provides bookkeeping services for individuals and businesses.

Site Security

Community Tax’s website is secured with TLS encryption. You will only use the site to get in touch about your tax situation and request a consultation, so you don’t need to submit sensitive information through the site. The company has a clear privacy policy and also complies with the California Consumer Privacy Act.

Help & Support

One of the things we like most about Community Tax is that you are assigned a dedicated case manager who you can contact at any time. While your case manager may not be an attorney or CPA, every case has an accredited tax advisor who directly works with the IRS.

Your case manager is available by phone or email from 8 am to 8 pm Monday to Thursday, from 8 am to 6 pm Friday, and 9 am to 5 pm Saturday. You can also get in touch with Community Tax’s public support team through live chat.

    This is the BIGGEST SCAM!!

This is the BIGGEST SCAM!!! They didn't save us one red cent! We paid them over $3,000 for services. First service was to STOP penalties and interest which they did NOT DO. The original payment that we were supposed to be set up is much more than agreed and now they say we owe almost $10k MORE than what we owed (according to the IRS) when starting. We had them file our 2019 taxes (which was another $800 service we paid to them) so that we could keep it all together, in which we made 4 payment installments for to the IRS, only to have Michelle call us today to say we still owe for 2019. Seriously? They do not know what is going on half of the time with our case. I could've gone through the IRS myself to set up an installment plan, which is ALL they have done and in this agreement that Michelle sent us today, it actually states that interest and penalties will STILL ACCRUE!!! I deserve a refund since they didn't do anything for me that they promised! I would NOT recommend this company to anyone! RUN RUN RUN

Positive Experience Review - Community Tax LLC, Chicago, IL - Professional Tax Resolution

I reached out to Community Tax, LLC. from Chicago, Illinois back on November, 11th 2020 in search of Tax Relief Services. I had received a lien or wage garnishment letter, and I knew I did not owe as much as the IRS says I did. I didn’t want to fight the IRS myself, when I could have Tax Practitioners do it for me, right? My case was untraditional as I'm more hands on than most. Community Tax did an investigation into my tax issue as part of their phase 1 program. I have to say that you can't get a CPA to look over your complete tax record for $250.00 as their phase 1 costs. I think more of the money might be made through phase 2 and negotiations with Federal and State agencies. They are creating a new standard for the industry and customer best interests come first. I stopped before going into Phase 2 for two reasons, I was afraid of being taken advantage of not knowing what I was doing and I believe no client should pay full price for a service until they know what kind of options are available to them and what the expectations of the service are. Let that not be evidence of dissatisfaction: quite contrary… Let me put it into perspective for you here. My tax bill was $35,000. Healthy, but not massive. I would expect to pay around $4,000 to a CPA or Tax Consultant to help me with my tax problem. The average client, at a tax resolution firm, spends between $3,500.00 - $7,000.00 just to the company handling the tax problem. The more you owe, the more complex your scenario, and the overall time estimated to handle your tax resolution will lean you more towards the top end of that. I owed $35,000, I had 6 returns to be filed, 1 to be amended, and the TOTAL cost as a percentage of the TOTAL tax bill that Community Tax LLC proposed to charge me WAS ONLY 4% percent of the outstanding debt, including the investigation. You can do the math, but I'll give you a hint, it was going to cost under $1,500.00 in service fees to the company for an investigation, filing the returns, amending the returns and settling my debts for my particular case. Note, your price will be specific to your circumstances, I can't express the importance of that. You can trust this company. I personally did not go into phase 2 because, A. As I had stated early on, I was more hands on and only interested in the investigation. I would handle the returns myself. No foul. A+ B. An early on miscommunication between myself, the client and the sales rep which was later resolved to my full satisfaction. The Customer Satisfaction Department is. No foul. A+ C. I thought of a different way to get the tax bill handled. No foul. A+ My experience with the customer satisfaction department was A+. Definitely reach out to them if you have questions or concerns. Great overall experience. AAA+++ Thanks, Jonathan Roberts

Good people and fair treatment on a difficult case.

I have been working with Community Tax for the last two years. They did a great job evaluating my difficult case and recommending possible solutions. They kept me updated every three weeks on my case and consulted me whenever the IRS sent letters about my debt. They negotiated a payment plan with the IRS and tried to reduce my debt levels by reducing penalties and interest payments. When the IRS did not refund the full amount that they thought they could get me, Community Tax returned the money they charged me.
