LevelUp Savings is designed for people who add money regularly but do not want to maintain a large minimum balance. The account requires $0 to open and has no monthly maintenance fee. To earn the current 4.00% variable APY¹, it must receive at least $250 in qualifying deposits during each statement cycle. One deposit or several smaller deposits can meet the condition.
Missing the target does not stop the account from earning interest. The balance currently earns the 3.00% variable Standard Rate for the following cycle. Happen first evaluates a new account in its third statement cycle, and any resulting rate change begins in the next cycle. Customers should treat the statement-cycle closing date—not necessarily the end of the calendar month—as the deadline.
This setup is most suitable for a saver who can automate part of a paycheck or arrange regular transfers. Happen’s direct deposit tool allows customers to direct a percentage or dollar amount of their pay to the account. A person who prefers a single rate without an activity condition may find the deposit rule less convenient.
The account can be managed online or through the Happen Bank app. Customers can view balances, transfer money, link external accounts, deposit checks by phone, and monitor their current APY and progress toward the $250 deposit target. For mobile check deposit, the check must be endorsed for Happen Bank, photographed on both sides, and submitted through the app’s Move Money menu.
The app supports face or fingerprint sign-in on compatible devices. Happen also says online and mobile activity is monitored for potential fraud and that secure sessions close automatically after a period of inactivity. These features support routine account management without requiring an in-person visit.
Opening an account is completed online. Applicants must be at least 18 and a U.S. citizen or resident. Happen asks for a Social Security number, a current primary U.S. residential address, and an email address. Customers funding the account from another bank should also have that bank’s routing and account numbers or online banking credentials available.
The process can be handled in four main steps:
The account can be funded from another Happen account or an outside financial institution. Savings customers can also add money later through online banking or the app.
Happen states that it does not pull a credit report as part of its bank-account opening process and that the deposit application does not affect the applicant’s credit score. Deposit accounts remain subject to approval. A joint owner can be added during the application after the primary applicant’s details are approved.
Money can be withdrawn by external ACH transfer, wire transfer, or optional ATM card. Happen lists no fee for external ACH withdrawals. Its terms also show a $0 Happen fee at SUM and MoneyPass ATMs and a $0 Happen fee at out-of-network ATMs, with eligible ATM-owner fees rebated. International ATM rebates may require a customer-service request if they are not identified automatically.
The advertised APY is conditional. The LevelUp Rate applies to the full balance only after at least $250 in qualifying deposits is received during the statement cycle.

Happen Bank, N.A. is a Member FDIC institution. FDIC insurance generally covers eligible deposits up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, per ownership category. Deposits held in the same ownership category at the same bank are combined when coverage is calculated.
Happen describes protections that include firewalls, antivirus controls, authentication credentials, automatic session logout, software updates, and monitoring for possible fraud. The bank also says personal and account information is not stored on the mobile device.
Customers can reduce risk by using a unique password, enabling available device authentication, and contacting the bank through a known phone number when a message appears suspicious. Happen states that it will not ask customers to provide a username, password, or ATM PIN by phone, text, or email.
Happen Bank LevelUp Savings is a good fit for U.S. savers who can deposit at least $250 during each statement cycle and are comfortable managing an account online. The account combines a current 4.00% variable APY, a 3.00% variable fallback rate, no minimum opening deposit, no monthly maintenance fee, mobile check deposit, external transfers, and optional ATM access.
The main tradeoff is the deposit condition. Setting up a recurring transfer or directing part of a paycheck to the account can make it easier to manage. Before opening, customers should confirm the live APY, review the product terms, check their available transfer limits, and consider their total deposits at Happen Bank when assessing FDIC coverage.
Accounts subject to approval. No minimum opening deposit required. Please see Product Terms & Conditions for additional product details. Visit our Help Center for additional information.
¹LevelUp Rate of 4.00% Annual Percentage Yield (“APY”) is accurate as of 08/04/2026. Standard Rate of 3.00% APY accurate as of 08/04/2026. Rates are variable and subject to change at any time without notice, at the sole discretion of the bank.
LevelUp Rate is applied to the full balance of LevelUp Savings accounts that receive a total of at least $250 in deposits during the Evaluation Period. Otherwise, accounts will earn the Standard Rate. Interest payments, account bonuses, account credits and reversals or refunds from the bank are not considered deposits for rate evaluation purposes. All LevelUp Savings accounts earn the LevelUp Rate at account opening and continue to earn the LevelUp Rate until the First Evaluation Period, to provide an opportunity to set up deposits. While accounts will not move from the LevelUp Rate prior to the First Evaluation Period, the LevelUp Rate is variable and subject to change at any time, including prior to the First Evaluation Period.
An Evaluation Period is a statement cycle. The First Evaluation Period will be the third statement cycle after you open your account, with any rate change becoming effective the next statement cycle. For example, if you open in August, the first Evaluation Period would be October with any rate change effective in November. Any rate changes will take place at the end of the first business day of the month and will be based on deposits in the previous statement cycle.
Fees may reduce earnings. $0 minimum opening deposit. Additional information can be found in the Product Terms & Conditions and FAQs.
