Overview

Capital One is the second-largest credit card issuer in the US, with more than 100 million cardholders. In 2023, it was #10 on Fortune’s list of America’s Most Innovative Companies.

The Venture X card is Capital One’s premier travel rewards card. It offers generous bonuses for travel-related purchases and gives cardholders a $300 annual travel credit when booking through Capital One Travel and access to 1,300+ lounges worldwide. Cardholders also receive a $100 credit towards TSA PreCheck® or Global Entry and a 10,000-mile bonus on every account anniversary.

Suitable For?

The Venture X card is best suited for frequent travelers. It offers 10X miles on hotels and rental cars purchased through the Capital One Travel portal and 5X miles on flights booked. It also provides travel benefits like lounge access, Hertz President’s Circle® status, and rental car collision coverage.

The Venture X card’s annual fee is lower than similar travel rewards cards, and many benefits are easier to use. You get a $300 annual statement credit for purchases in the Capital One Travel portal and $100 to spend on experiences when you stay at one of Capital One’s Premier Collection hotels. You also get a $100 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck®.

Note that the Venture X card requires excellent credit. You can get pre-approved online without impacting your credit score, which is helpful if your credit is between good and excellent.

Interest Rates and Fees

The Venture X card comes with a $395 annual fee. The fee is not waived for the first year, but the card’s statement credits are worth more than this.

There is no foreign transaction fee. There is a cash advance fee of 5% of the amount of the cash advance, but not less than $5. The card carries an interest rate of 19.99%-29.99% (variable) depending on your credit score.

The Application Process

You can apply for the Capital One Venture X card online or in person at a Capital One bank branch. You’ll need to decide whether you want to be pre-approved before applying or jump straight into the application. The pre-approval process and application require similar information, but pre-approval doesn’t require a hard credit check and won’t impact your credit score.

You’ll need to provide your name, address, date of birth, social security number, email address, phone number, annual income, monthly rent or mortgage cost. If you’re pre-approved, you don’t need to re-enter this information, but you do need to consent to a hard credit check to submit your application.

Capital One will issue an application decision immediately in most cases. It takes 7-10 days to receive your new card in the mail.

Help & Support

Capital One offers 24/7 customer support by phone. It typically only takes a few minutes to speak with an agent. You can call a dedicated fraud hotline to report fraud or if your card is lost or stolen.

Capital One also has a detailed online help center with FAQs and tutorials for using your online account or the mobile app. An AI-powered chatbot is available 24/7 to answer simple account questions and direct you to relevant support articles.

Security

Capital One has a dedicated fraud hotline available 24/7. You’re never responsible for fraudulent purchases on your card. The card has an EMV chip to make fraudulent purchases more difficult.

Your online account is protected by 256-bit Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption. Capital One also uses biometric authentication and offers two-factor authentication.

Capital One is a member of the FDIC, although credit cards are not FDIC-insured.
