Pro: The best thing about Spire Insurance is its simplicity. Traditional car insurance companies make you choose which features you want and how high to set your deductibles, which can suck up a lot of your time. With Spire Insurance, the only decision you have to make is which of the two auto coverage packages you want to purchase.
Con: If you’re the type of person who likes having a lot of choice, then Spire Insurance isn’t for you. Spire Insurance exists to make car insurance simple. If you prefer to choose which features to include in your policy and which to exclude, then we recommend using a traditional car insurance company. The other obvious downside is that Spire is currently only available in Texas, although new states are set to be added in the near future.
As discussed, Spire Insurance offers a different model to traditional car insurance providers. It gives users a choice between two levels of coverage: Spire Classic and Spire Deluxe.

Once you’ve purchased vehicle coverage from Spire, the next thing to do is download the Spire app, set up your account, and turn on location sharing.
Through your phone’s built-in sensors and GPS, Spire captures data about your driving behavior. With every trip you make, Spire assigns you a score based on 5 factors: speeding, hard braking, rapid acceleration, distracted driving, and hard cornering.
The better you score, the more rewards you earn. Once you’ve taken fifty trips over 5 miles, in which you have a Trip Score of 90 or better, you’ll earn a $10 reward to places like Amazon or Lyft. Each quarter, you’ll be eligible for a new reward.
The Spire app is currently available for Android 4.4 and above and iPhone 6S and above.
It takes only one minute to get a quote from Spire. All you have to do is scan your driver’s license and answer 4 simple questions:
• Where do you park?
• How many miles do you drive?
• Do you own or lease your car?
• Have you had more than two tickets in the past year?
Based on your answers, Spire will show you a quote for Spire Classic and Spire Deluxe. Select your preferred option and sign the closing documents to complete your purchase and finalize your vehicle coverage.
Claims to Spire Insurance are handled by National Casualty Company, the underwriter for all Spire policies. The Spire mobile app is an all-in-one portal for managing your Spire policy, including:
• Accessing your ID card
• Seeing your drive score
• Cashing out rewards
• Getting roadside assistance
• Viewing trip details
• Filing claims
Applications are made on the Spire website and all other correspondence takes place on the Spire app. Spire also offers telephone support at 1-833-90SPIRE (1-833-907-7473) between 8 am and 7 pm CST.
Spire has brought something a little different to the car insurance market with two all-inclusive policies. It is currently trialling its service among drivers in Texas. If it becomes popular (and the signs are good so far), then we can easily see Spire rolling out its service to drivers around the United States.
