Overview

iTrustCapital is a digital asset IRA platform based in Irvine, California, offering you the opportunity to invest in and trade gold, silver, and cryptocurrencies. Its financial, regulatory, and technology infrastructure comes from Fortress Trust, a “qualified custodian” approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to take custody of alternative assets like cryptocurrencies. iTrustCapital partners with Kitco Metals—a precious metals dealer—which uses the Royal Canadian Mint as its secure storage for physical gold and silver.

iTrustCapital offers a low-cost alternative to traditional IRAs, charging zero setup or monthly account fees to run the account. I liked that you can self-trade tax-free, 24/7/365, from your account dashboard, legally purchasing precious metals and cryptocurrencies within the wrapper of your IRA. Trades are authorized in about a minute and settled in about two minutes, meaning your transactions will be approved in real-time.

Suitable for?

iTrustCapital is well suited to investors wanting to build a diversified portfolio of precious metal and crypto assets within a single IRA. The low minimum investment and competitive transaction fees make this a highly accessible solution.

It’s an attractive option for those who wish to manage the performance of their investments actively, thanks to its account dashboard and integrated marketplace. Investors have granular control over their assets, and digital ownership of physical gold and silver opens the door to fractional purchases.

Product Choices and Terms

iTrustCapital has a transparent pricing approach, highlighted on its pricing page and pricing video tutorial. I was also impressed by its zero setup and monthly account fees.

Cryptocurrency transactions incur a 1% buy/sell fee, gold has a fee of $50 over spot per ounce, and silver has a $2.50 over spot per ounce fee. Spot price is the market cost of the metal, so “over spot” means a markup of the price. For example, if an ounce of gold costs $100, you’ll buy it at $150 according to the cost over the spot pricing.

You’ll need to make a minimum cash contribution of $1,000 to open your account and can make a maximum annual cash contribution of up to $6,500. If you’re over 50 years of age, the maximum yearly cash contribution rises to $7,500.

Converting a traditional IRA to a Roth IRA will incur a one-time fee of $75. The difference between the two is that you fund a traditional IRA using pre-tax dollars, with tax charges applying only when you begin taking distributions. On the other hand, a Roth IRA uses post-tax dollars, meaning your account gains will be tax-free.

How to get started with iTrustCapital

iTrustCapital has a very straightforward registration and investing process:

1. Apply for an iTrustCapital account

You can apply for an IRA account online or via iTrustCapital’s mobile app in just a few minutes. After verifying your email address, you can fill in your personal details, such as your address.

2. Select a funding method

Choose from one of three account funding methods: cash, rollover, or IRA transfer. Your cash contribution must be in USD and comply with the limits. Rollover funding involves taking money from an eligible employer-sponsored retirement plan like a 401k and adding it to another eligible IRA plan. Finally, you can make an IRA transfer—for example, from a traditional to a Roth IRA.

3. Account application review

After accepting the IRA adoption agreement, you’ll go to your iTrustCapital dashboard, where you’ll be logging in and investing year-round. The processing team will review your account application, and they may reach out with follow-up questions.

You can expect the process to take one-three days. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact the Client Experience Team.

4. Begin self-trading

Once iTrustCapital approves your account, you can begin buying and selling gold, silver, and crypto if you have sufficient funds in your account. Log into your account and click on the Assets menu to get a list of available investment options.

When you find an asset you like, you can select it to get more details and then choose whether to buy or sell it. The platform enables you to verify your choice before submitting your order, and you’ll be able to view the outcomes of your investment in real-time.

Is there an iTrustCapital app?

Yes, there is an iTrustCapital app available on Apple and iOS devices. The app allows you to make investment decisions in real-time at any hour on any day of the week. Apart from the convenience of buying and selling on-the-go, the app also displays key account information so you can track your finances without being glued to your desktop.

Help and Support

iTrustCapital provides help through various channels. Its phone support line (562-600-8437) is available 8am-12pm and 2pm-5pm (PT) on weekdays. You can speak to iTrustCapital via email or request a callback if you have additional questions. It has a 4.5 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot, with reviewers praising it for its products and high-quality customer care agents.

Both the email and call options receive quick responses unless there’s a platform issue leading to a call queue. Trustpilot reviews show the company has a high rating on customer service, with agents receiving praise for their friendly and helpful assistance.

In addition, the website features a range of detailed and informative articles, FAQs, and how-to videos. Moreover, the support page has a search bar, which enables you to find an answer to your question faster.

iTrustCapital in a Nutshell

iTrustCapital offers an alternative to traditional precious metal IRA investing that is worth considering. It provides a reliable trading platform with a responsive customer support team to guide you. The accounts are either tax-free or defer your taxes until you’re ready to access your funds. The application process is straightforward, and you can begin trading in gold and silver immediately once iTrustCapital approves your account.
